This game is like a really good skeleton of a much better game. The thing that sticks out to me most is that it really feels like there’s going to be more to it. I kept feeling like I was about to discover something novel but nope, more of the same. The phone person seems like they’re going to reveal something about the world, or mess with you, or I dunno, something could happen to them where you’re affecting them with your actions. I don’t know it just feels like it’s all set up to be a bit of a choose your adventure à la Papers Please, or at least more varied between run like a deckbuilder or even just weirder and more atmospheric and world-buildy.The progression is more straightforward than it could be, the numbers go up, they go up faster, they go up with less effort. After a couple runs watching the numbers go up barely requires your participation. I wasn’t excited about most of the skill tree—oh I can keep my job that pays $3 for longer? Yay. After like three runs I could just not do that job at all and make $100 in three pulls. Some kind of horizontal progression would be nice; perks, tradeoffs, new rules, etc. Not sure how to work that into the scratch-off conceit, but if the devs want to hire me I can help figure it out lol. Anyway, I wouldn’t have written all this except that I think they’ve made something pretty good with so much potential that I was expecting it to be realized at every turn. Seemed like some feedback might actually be valuable to someone.
