UK PATHS ARE BACK. The public map service the app drew footpaths, bridleways and byways from stopped serving apps in October. My Finds now draws them from its own tile set, built from OpenStreetMap data and served from our own host, so Show UK Paths no longer depends on a shared public server. Thanks to Bob Hughes for the report. LiDAR FOR WALES AND SCOTLAND. The LiDAR Terrain overlay now covers Wales, and Scotland where it has been surveyed, as well as England, drawn from the national LiDAR surveys and served through Mapterhorn. YOUR RECORDS, KEPT SAFE ON THE PHONE. The app now writes a photo-free snapshot of every session, find, site, club and category when you leave it, never while a session is recording. Settings > Backup & Restore shows when it was last written, and Restore from Snapshot brings everything back if an update ever cannot open your finds; your photos stay on the phone and are reconnected. If that ever happens, the app says so instead of showing an empty library, with Restore and Email Support on the same notice. It is not a backup off the phone; keep making those. Backup & Restore is now its own row in Settings. SESSIONS. Show Previous Finds, in the active session map’s options, pins the finds from your earlier visits beside today’s, smaller and fainter. Pause and drive on to the next field and the Resume question waits until you are back on foot. Skip New-Session Advice, in Session Behaviour, resumes an old session without the suggestion first. If the app ends a session because you appear to be driving, it tells you at once, and it now waits a minute before deciding, so a quick lift across a field no longer ends your session. Thanks to Ian Huckle and Bob Hughes. DIRECTIONS TO SITE. A car button on a prepared session, or Directions to Site on an ended one, opens driving directions in Apple Maps or Google Maps, heading for the landowner’s access point or your last session at that site. COINS AND CATEGORIES. Find a category by typing: one search field matches categories, subcategories and types, and a tap sets all three. Brass joins the metal types. French coins from the Revolution to the euro join the Denomination list, with their rulers and regimes. Coins whose issuer has no ruler, a Lincoln cent or a Dutch cent, are no longer asked for one, and a coin’s metal can be worked out from its ruler’s reign. A find with no subcategory now shows its Type in its title. Changing a saved find’s category clears the details the new one cannot carry. RECORDS. Improve Records gains a search field and says “Needs: Subcategory” where that is the real gap. Restoring a backup now brings back every category it carries. Searching your finds matches the club or landowner on the session too. A point-a-second GPS track imported from GPX, GoTerrain or Digly is thinned to the app’s own density, so its distance stops counting the receiver wandering on the spot. MAPS. Quick again with a large library: saving a find no longer lags, and a long session no longer stalls. Thanks to Ton de Goijer for the report. Starting a session always brings the map in to where you stand. The Historic Map choice is now a single Off / 1888-1913 / 1937-1961 control. On iPhone Duo’s inner display, the layers and LiDAR lighting panels open beside their button. ALSO. An Email Support row on the paywall and in Settings > Subscription, for when a subscription will not go through. The Apple Watch Smart Stack session card is laid out for the wrist. The User Guide’s Recording Finds chapter gains a Recording Completeness section.

A small update of fixes. - Find Similar on finds.org.uk now searches the right period for coins dated 1509 to 1900: a George III or Victorian coin searches Post Medieval, as the Portable Antiquities Scheme records them. - Protected Areas: More Info on a Site of Special Scientific Interest opens Natural England's page for that site again. Thanks to Bob Hughes for reporting it. - The Lock Screen session card now sits in two rows, so the distance, finds and Mark Signal button stay on one line at larger text sizes. - Improve Records no longer asks for an object type on Scrap / Modern finds. - Dutch categories: a coin logged under Munt now offers its Denomination and Ruler pickers, with the Dutch denominations listed. - Select Fields in the Netherlands now loads every parcel in view, where it used to stop at the first 500. - The guide's LiDAR section now gives the coverage correctly: England, plus a strip of Wales along the border.

A big release. The headlines first, then the rest. MARK A SIGNAL TO COME BACK TO. That strong signal on the walk back to the car needn’t be lost. Tap Add Find and choose Mark Signal, or use the one-tap button on the Lock Screen session display, and a question-mark pin waits on your maps until you return. Free and unlimited. ROMAN ROADS. A new overlay draws the scholarly reconstruction of the Roman road network over the modern map, main roads heavier, uncertain courses dashed. Tap a road for its name and route. LiDAR TERRAIN THAT BLENDS IN. The relief keeps its full contrast while the map keeps its colours beneath it, so fields stay green, water stays blue and labels stay readable. FIELD BOUNDARIES WITHOUT THE TRACING. In the Netherlands and parts of England, tap registered parcels on the satellite view to take them as your boundary, or import boundaries from a Google Earth file. Your permission’s fields and gates now show on every map, including the session map after the day is over. MERGE, MOVE AND CORRECT. Merge two records of the same find. Move a find to the right session. Type a grid reference or coordinates to place a pin exactly. Improve Records now offers one-tap corrections for coins that should read Copper, and for “issued for England” on post-1707 coinage. BETTER COINS. Copper joins the metal types. German Empire and Germany join the issuers, with Mark and Pfennig denominations, and the app suggests the ruler once the issuer and year pin a single reign. Venetian coinage, charms and watches have homes too. PHOTOS. Rotate or square-crop any photo. Photos taken during a tracked session now locate themselves on import from the recorded path, and two angles of the same find group together more reliably. Photo times import correctly wherever in the world you took them. MAPS. Previous-session paths are colour-coded by age, so you can see which ground you covered most recently. A session’s own map can show the other sessions that overlap it. A layers button on the map gathers the Historic Map, LiDAR Terrain, Roman Roads and paths switches in one place. UK RECORDING. The PAS card suggests the Finds Liaison Officer for the county the find was made in, with a copyable email. Find Similar opens finds.org.uk with a search built from the find. Detecting Know-How, under Settings, covers what every UK detectorist should know: permission, the law, reporting, beaches and field craft. TRACKING. Your path no longer goes quiet at true detecting pace, and it keeps recording with the phone locked in a pocket. Changing GPS Recording mid-session takes effect immediately. A session ended for travelling now says so. IMPORT. Bring your history in from Tect O Trak, and the app now tells you when a file from another app has been imported before. ALSO. Searching for a year now finds date-ranged finds too, and “1880s” finds the decade. Improve Records now leads with finds that have no category yet. Custom Queries are free until your 20th find, like the research overlays. Restore Purchase and Subscribe say what happened when the App Store can’t be reached. Insights charts drill with VoiceOver. A refreshed icon, a sturdier start-up, and fixes for the Finds search bar, photo rotation, map search on iOS 27 and the blank share sheet.

Category and Subcategory are now two separate rows, each with its own picker, and a tap in either applies straight away — there’s no Save to remember. Subcategories used to be reachable only by going through “Change Category”, so most people never found them; now they sit alongside Denomination and Ruler as the optional field they are. Two new land types for a session: Cultivated and Failed crop. Worked-to-seedbed ground and a failed crop are their own thing, not quite ploughed and not quite stubble, and they sit next to those in the picker. Thanks to Bob Hughes for the request. Prepared sessions can be edited — tap the pencil on a plan to change any of its details. Saving updates the plan in place, so it keeps its spot in the queue. Counts throughout the app now read correctly whether there’s one of something or several — no more “1 finds”. Fixed: exported GPX files now match the GPX 1.1 schema exactly. Google Earth always accepted them; stricter mapping software may not have. The Denomination and Ruler pickers now show which region’s list you’re looking at, with its flag, and explain that it follows the session — not the region in Settings. If a session picked up the wrong country, you can set it right on the session’s Region row. Fixed: a stray GPS reading arriving out of order at the end of a session could be recorded as the final point of your track, putting a short backwards step into exported files. Delete All Data and the Replace option when restoring a backup now refuse while a session is recording, and say why. Adding a backup to your existing data is unaffected. New: import your finds from Tect O Trak — including photos. Tect O Trak has gone from the App Store, leaving its users no way to move on with their history; My Finds now reads the app’s CSV export and Images folder (zip the folder and pick the zip under Settings → Backup & Restore → Import from Another App). Grid references become map locations, finds are grouped into one session per day, and every photo comes across with its find. Fixed: typing a grid reference to place a find by hand put the pin up to a mile north or south of the spot the reference names. Grid references you type now land within a metre or two. (Locations recorded from GPS were never affected — this only touched manually-typed references.) Fixed: after Delete All Data, going back to the Sessions tab could quit the app if a session’s detail screen had been open before the delete.

Site profiles — every piece of land you detect, rolled up. The new Sites list in Collections gathers your finds by site; tap one for its story: totals for finds, sessions and time spent, a chronology chart of when the finds date from, what was found by category and metal, and the whole site's finds scattered on the satellite map. Share it as a PDF for a landowner, archaeologist or Finds Liaison Officer. Merge two sessions into one — if the automatic session end split a single outing in two, select the pair in the Sessions list and tap Merge. The earlier session is kept; the later one's finds, photos and path move into it, with the time between counted as a break so your stats stay honest. Session photos — attach up to three photos of the land itself to a session: what the site looked like, what the day was like. Prepare sessions in advance — fill in the paperwork at home, then start the plan with a tap when you get to the field. Protected Areas now covers Wales and Scotland. Cadw and Historic Environment Scotland scheduled monuments appear with the same red no-dig outlines, tap-for-details cards and session-start warnings as English monuments, each linking to the official record. Detecting on a scheduled monument without consent is a criminal offence, and until now Welsh and Scottish sites showed no outline at all. More from LiDAR Terrain. A third visualisation, Local Relief, strips away the general lie of the land so hillsides vanish and only the small humps and hollows remain — at its best exactly where Hillshade struggles, on sloping ground. A new Classic preset gives the conventional hillshade you'll recognise from published surveys. The overlay now works on the session map as well as the Map tab, and stops cleanly at its sharpest useful zoom instead of stretching into blur. Import from Google Earth — KML and KMZ files now import directly, alongside GPX. Place marks become finds with their names, descriptions and dates, and you can open a file straight from Files, Mail or AirDrop. New for coins: an Issued For field records the region a coin was struck for, separate from where you dug it — a George II Hibernian halfpenny from an English field was issued for Ireland. US denominations join the picker, Cent to Double Eagle. And where the denomination and date pin down the metal, a one-tap suggestion offers it. Copy a find summary for your FLO email — one tap in the PAS Submission Info sheet copies everything about the find as tidy text, ready to paste alongside the photo. Improve Records can be told to stop flagging a find, for scrap you'll never improve. The record stays; only the reminder goes. Remove photos from several finds at once — filter to Scrap, Select All, and reclaim the storage while keeping the find records. View on Research Map jumps from any completed session to the Map tab, framed on that session, ready to compare against LiDAR, historic maps and your other visits. For Dutch users, much more of the app now speaks Dutch: metal types, the protected-area warnings and their map cards, historic-site labels, and the session and site PDF reports. Also: deleting a category now asks first and names what would go with it; Custom Queries understand VDI ranges; VoiceOver announces session stats and finds card titles in the Headings rotor; restoring a large backup explains the wait; and a subscription check no longer misreads your status when the app opens with no signal.

This maintenance release polishes recording, insights and accessibility: The Log Find sheet now protects a half-entered find: swiping it away or tapping Cancel with details entered asks before anything is discarded. Finds recorded with a depth preset show their depth in the finds list and in shared session reports, following your metric or imperial setting. New find category: Ox Knob / Horn Protector, under Horse / Animal. Custom Queries: the date filter now covers the whole of the chosen days, and VDI or year ranges work with just a minimum or just a maximum. The session time slider’s labels now show the session’s start and end times correctly. Colour swatches in the club and landowner editor reliably show your current selection. VoiceOver improvements throughout, including sort-order announcements, User Guide heading navigation and clearer row descriptions. Numerous under-the-bonnet reliability fixes to backups, imports and photo handling.

GPS track quality Stray GPS readings — where the phone briefly reports a position far from where you actually were — are now filtered out as they happen, so your recorded track stays true to your walk. Shared and exported GPX tracks are cleaner: a stray reading or a signal gap no longer draws a long straight line across the map. Your track no longer breaks up at detecting pace. Quiet spells while you sweep and dig stay one continuous path; the line only breaks where you genuinely moved during a gap. Find depth Tap a depth preset when logging a find to record how deep it was. The depth shows on the find’s detail page, can be changed any time, and follows your measurement setting (inches or centimetres). The free-text depth note is still there for anything that doesn’t fit a preset. Insights gains a Depth Distribution chart and a Deepest Find record card. Coin metal When you log a coin, My Finds can suggest its likely metal — silver, gold or copper alloy — worked out from the denomination and year. Tap the suggestion to fill it in; nothing is set unless you choose it. Dated coins no longer ask for a metal on the Improve Records list, except where it genuinely can’t be told apart — like a wartime threepence, which came in both silver and brass. Date Range You can now record the period a find dates to — like 1250–1400 for a medieval buckle type — separately from the Year field, which stays reserved for dates actually stamped on the object. The new fields appear when logging a find and on its detail page, for every category, with a CE/BCE switch and open-ended ranges (“From 1066”). A date range counts as a recorded date on the Improve Records list. Backups Backups now include your hand-drawn field boundaries and your agreement documents (photos and PDFs of written permissions), plus each find’s favourite star, structured depth and date range — so restoring onto a new phone brings everything back complete. GoTerrain imports All of GoTerrain’s find icons are now recognised, so imported finds land in a sensible category instead of Other / Unidentified. The gold, silver and copper icons also fill in a find’s metal type when GoTerrain didn’t record one. New find categories Two new top-level categories join the UK set: Tools / Implements (agricultural and trade tools, surveying gear, personal implements) and Token / Medal (trade tokens, jettons, commemorative and award medals). Both offer type suggestions and are mapped for PAS export; anything you’ve already recorded keeps its name and stays where it is. Two new metal types in the picker: White Metal and Nickel Silver. Find notes A find’s notes can now be added or changed on the find detail screen — previously they could only be entered when the find was first logged. Maps A session’s map now marks where the session ended, including the true closing point when a session ended on the drive away. UK rights of way are drawn in their proper colours again, matching the map legend. The Map tab opens centred on your current location instead of zoomed out to fit every find. Stability Fixed a class of rare crashes where a find’s list row could be redrawn just after the find was deleted. Fixed a shared session report where the first find could be missing from the PDF when the session covered a tall, narrow area.

The in-app User Guide now explains Session Land Type — record the kind of ground you detected on and see it across your sessions, insights and reports.

VIEW THE GROUND LIKE AN ARCHAEOLOGIST A new LiDAR Terrain A map overlay drapes the UK Environment Agency’s one-metre LiDAR elevation survey over your fields, revealing ridge and furrow, old boundaries, trackways and other earthworks that satellite imagery can’t show. Choose between two visualisations: classic Sunlit Hillshade with presets and adjustable lighting, or Sky View, which makes ditches and banks stand out whichever way they run. England coverage only, included with Pro. BACK UP AND RESTORE YOUR FINDS Create a single backup file of everything (your finds, sessions, photos and settings) and keep it safe in Files, iCloud Drive or anywhere you like. Restore it on a new phone, or merge it into an existing collection. A gentle reminder nudges you to back up from time to time. MOVING FROM OTHER APPS My Finds can now import your finds from FindSpot, Go Terrain and Digly, so you don’t have to start from scratch. IDENTIFY LAND TYPES Tag session with the type of ground you were detecting: ploughed, pasture, stubble, woodland, beach, parkland or other. Set it when you start a session or add it later, see it on your session report, and group your finds by land type in Insights to spot which ground works best for you. TIDY CATEGORIES FOR TRAVELERS If you detect in more than one country, My Finds can now hide another region’s categories from the finds picker lists, to keep them shorter, without losing any of your data. VOICE-OVER OVERLAYS VoiceOver users can now adjust the map overlay sliders for historic map opacity and LiDAR terrain controls with the standard swipe up and down gestures.

New: an opacity slider for the historic maps. Tap the (i) button on the historic map to dim the old map and see modern roads through it. Sharing photos from the Photos app into My Finds is more reliable: the import screen no longer occasionally opens empty — whether on the first share or after reopening the app — so your selected photos appear straight away. Sharing a very large batch of photos now shows a clear “pick fewer and share again” message instead of the My Finds option quietly disappearing from the share sheet. Fixed a crash that could happen when deleting a session from the Sessions list.

Clubs & Landowners - Keep track of who lets you detect where. Record a club or landowner’s contact details, permission dates, and conditions, attach a photo or PDF of your agreement, and draw the boundaries of the fields you’re allowed to search. Get a gentle warning when you wander near the edge of your permission. Protected Areas on the map (UK) - See regulated no-dig areas while you plan and detect. Scheduled Monuments are shown clearly, with a warning before you start a session on one, alongside SSSI, SAC, SPA and Ramsar conservation designations. Share a session report - Turn any session into a clean PDF to send a landowner — a map with numbered find pins, a photo and details for each find, and tap-through links. Share it by Messages, WhatsApp, email, AirDrop or Files. New privacy controls let you choose what the report includes. Custom Queries in Insights - Build your own filtered views of your finds — by date, category, metal type, VDI, depth, site, denomination, ruler or year — and see the results grouped into charts you can tap to drill into. (Requires a subscription.) Import straight from the Photos app Select photos in the Photos app, tap Share, and choose My Finds to bring them in as finds. Recently Deleted - Deleted finds now move to a Recently Deleted folder for 30 days before being permanently removed. Recover a find from Settings → Recently Deleted, or delete it for good at any time. Delete a find from inside its detail screen with the new button at the bottom, or from a session list with a long-press on any find row. More improvements - A big accessibility pass (VoiceOver, Dynamic Type, Reduce Motion, larger tap targets, and a coordinate nudge pad for fine-tuning find locations), plus fixes: session paths no longer develop gaps during faster walking, the sweep-area and path-direction overlays now work on the Map tab, photo capture dates are read correctly across time zones, and a rare find-thumbnail crash is resolved. Settings has been reorganised to be easier to navigate.

Improves recovery after an abrupt shutdown (battery runs out while using the app)

A pair of small reliability fixes: - The Import from Photos flow handles edits and deletions during an import more reliably. - The User Guide link on the Active tab welcome card now behaves consistently after the app has been closed and reopened.

Historic maps Overlay: scanned historical Ordnance Survey maps over the modern basemap on the Map tab and your active session view. Two layers ship: the OS Six-inch (1888–1913) for Victorian and Edwardian field detail, and the OS 1:25,000 Provisional (1937–1961) for the inter-war landscape. Old field boundaries, footpaths, and structures often hint at where things were lost. Map data digitised by the National Library of Scotland. Historic sites A new Show Historic Sites toggle drops pins on Scheduled Monuments and registered battlefields where you’re detecting, with name, type, period, and a “More Info” link to the official listing. UK coverage uses Historic England open data; everywhere else falls back to OpenStreetMap. Map place search: Jump to any village, town, postcode, or address with the new search field at the top of the Map tab. In-app User Guide: A new built-in manual covers the main features, with help icons next to fields that benefit from a quick explanation. Settings → Help → User Guide. Insights: A new Insights view in the Finds tab turns your accumulated finds into six charts: finds over time, category breakdown, metal type distribution, personal records, site comparison, and a period chart spanning ten broad archaeological periods. Tap a bar to see the underlying finds. Import finds from photos: Build a session retroactively from a day’s worth of GPS-tagged, time-stamped photos. The app reconstructs a path, clusters multi-angle shots of the same find, and lets you preview the result before committing. Choose your detecting region: A new welcome screen on first launch asks where you do most of your detecting and tailors the default category set accordingly — UK and US category sets ship in this release. Change it any time from Settings → Primary Region. Pro Access — Two subscription tiers: a monthly plan, and an annual plan with a 30-day free trial. The one-time Lifetime purchase has been retired. Improvements: Photos taken with the in-app camera now preserve their camera info, timestamp, and GPS location when saved to your Photos Library. Map pin accessibility for VoiceOver users. New “Steel” metal type. Various polish and stability fixes.

v1.2.0 - the biggest update since launch. SEE WHERE YOU’VE BEEN The “Map” tab now layers each of your previous session paths beneath the current view, fainter as they get older. Tap any path for a summary card and jump to that full session. Filter by date when you’ve visited a site multiple times. Hide the find pins to focus on path coverage, or show them to view density at a glance. GPX IMPORT Import your history from XP Go Terrain, other detecting apps, or any GPX track. Finds are automatically categorised where possible, and re-imports skip duplicates. SESSION REPLAY Every completed session has a scrubbable timeline. Play, pause, and cycle through at 1x / 2x / 5x / 10x speeds with a long-press on the play button. FREE TO TRY No subscription necessary to give My Finds a try. Create sessions and log up to 20 finds without a subscription. My Finds Pro, available with the monthly, annual, or lifetime subscriptions, unlocks unlimited finds. The monthly subscription price has also been reduced to 1.99. RICHER FINDS Optional Denomination, Ruler, Type, and Year fields on every find, with curated suggestion lists - British finds by default, plus US coinage via the “All Regions” toggle. More regions coming in future updates. Year soft-warns dates outside the named ruler’s reign so obvious typos don’t slip through. Search matches all new fields too. Pinch-to-zoom on any photo. Edits auto-save - no more lost changes when you switch fields. REGION-AWARE SESSIONS Sessions remember where they happened. Country inferred from GPS at session start, or picked manually; a small flag appears in the sessions list. Useful if you detect abroad, and the foundation for region-specific suggestion lists in future updates. US CATEGORIES (OPTIONAL) Open Settings, Regional Categories, and tap United States to add a US-specific taxonomy alongside your UK one - Colonial and Federal coinage, Civil War relics, Prehistoric Indigenous finds, and more. Safe to run repeatedly; nothing UK is replaced or touched. Useful for travelling detectorists, or for foreign coins turned up in UK soil. POLISH AND FIXES Find detail sheet redesigned with grouped Identity / Recording sections. Aspect ratio picker (1:1, 4:3, 16:9) right on the camera shutter. Trim Travel is now a scissors button on the session map, shown only when there’s travel worth trimming. Undo banners on swipe-delete and trim. New “Cartridge / Shotshell” subcategory for spent ammunition. New “Tombac” metal type. Detector and Program share one row on session detail. Resume-path-recording bug fixed. The “0m duration” bug from auto-end-then-resume is fixed; affected sessions can be recovered via Settings, Maintenance, Recompute Session Durations.
