SkyBound Dashboard
Hot Air Dashboard For Pilots
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
SkyOps live view and flight comparison are back, map overlays render cleanly again, and SkyBound can now update itself with quick fixes automatically.
SkyBound is the all-in-one platform for hot air balloon pilots and crew. Track flights in real time with precision GPS, coordinate with your crew, plan flights with integrated weather, and manage your ballooning business — all from one app.
FLIGHT TRACKING
Track every flight with live GPS including altitude, speed, heading, and vertical rate. Your crew sees your position in real time and gets navigation to your landing spot. Background tracking keeps working even when the app is minimized. Pair an external GPS or Balloon Live Sensor (BLS) for competition-grade position — or use your phone's GPS, which takes over automatically if a sensor drops.
CREW COORDINATION
Create teams with your pilots and crew. Everyone sees live positions on a shared map during flights. No more constant calls and texts — your crew knows exactly where you are and where you're headed. Talk to crew and spotters with push-to-talk voice, and let a spotter mark your map with a laser pointer to call out targets and hazards.
CARPLAY CHASE
Plug into Apple CarPlay and your crewed pilots load automatically — no need to unlock your phone. Follow each pilot's color-coded live track and drift projection on your car's display, with directions to the landing spot.
WEATHER INTELLIGENCE
Get flight-specific weather forecasts right at your launch coordinates. View wind speed and direction at multiple altitudes, hourly breakdowns, and sunrise/sunset times. Pick the forecast model that fits your flight — ECMWF, GFS, HRRR, NBM, or RAP. Check active TFRs and NOTAMs with an interactive map.
SKYCAST WIND SIMULATOR
Drop a takeoff, dial in a wind profile by altitude, and fly the app manually before you ever leave the ground. SkyCast uses the real flight HUD — gauges, target cards, drift cones — so you can see how altitude choices steer you across the map. Perfect for practicing competition tasks or briefing new crew.
FLIGHT PLANNING
Plan routes on an interactive map with zone overlays. Import KML and GPX files for competition targets, restricted areas, and custom boundaries. Set altitude floors and ceilings with color-coded rules.
COMPETITION SUPPORT
Snap a photo of your task sheet and let AI extract targets, coordinates, and scoring rules. Import task sheets directly from WatchMeFly. See task overlays on your flight map in real time. Share any target with another pilot — it lands in their pre-flight, in their own UTM zone.
FLIGHT LOG
Every flight is automatically logged with full GPS tracks, altitude profiles, duration, and distance. Replay any flight on the map.

more SkyBound 2.1 brings the SkyOps live tools back, fixes map overlay rendering, and adds automatic updates.
SKYOPS LIVE VIEW
Watch your SkyOps pilots fly in real time. Open Live, choose the pilots you want to follow, and tap View Live Flights to see them all on one map at once — every selected pilot plus all of their crew on the ground.
FLIGHT COMPARISON
Compare flights side by side. On the SkyOps Flights tab, pick two or more flights and see their tracks overlaid and color-coded on one map, with a synchronized replay — each balloon glides along its own track together while an altitude profile shows every flight's climb at once. A 3D view is one tap away.
MAP OVERLAYS FIXED
Zones, boundaries, and overlays now draw reliably as you pan and zoom — no more disappearing overlays or thick blobs of color when zoomed out.
AUTOMATIC UPDATES
SkyBound can now deliver quick fixes and improvements to your phone automatically. For many updates you'll simply see an "Update ready" prompt — no trip to the App Store required.
Happy flying!
2.1 Aug 6
SkyBound 2.0 is our biggest release since 1.14 — rebuilt from the ground up for reliability and speed, with a stack of new flight tools.
REBUILT FOR RELIABILITY
We rebuilt SkyBound on a new foundation focused on stability and performance. Pilot teams now see each other both ways on the map. Push-to-talk voice connects every time and reconnects on its own after a dropout. Your flight log saves every GPS point from launch to landing — even while backgrounded — and GPS self-heals if it goes quiet after your phone sleeps. Your crew's dot keeps pace with your track even when a signal briefly drops.
FLIGHT REPLAY
Relive any flight. Play, scrub, and speed through your track (up to 16x) — smooth at any speed — with an altitude graph right under the scrubber. Your measured wind profile, drift projection, and baggie-drop all replay in place, and the compass and projection line turn smoothly instead of snapping. Experimental 3D terrain replay brings the hills to life.
RANGE RING
A new distance-reference ring centered on your position. Pick a radius (in km or miles) and style it your way — color, dashed or solid, thickness, opacity, fill. A quick read on how far targets and hazards really are. Works in planning, live flight, and replay.
SMARTER AIRSPACE & MAP
Airspace stays smooth even over busy cities (Class E is now opt-in). Tap any airspace or overlay for an info card that floats above the map and stays put as you pan and zoom — or switch tap-to-inspect off so a tap in a dense city only opens your own zones. A new draw tool lets you sketch, reshape, recolor, and delete your own zones right on the map. A 4x4 UTM grid, a measure tool, and magnetic/true heading are all a tap away. Offline maps keep your targets, scoring rings, and projection looking identical with no signal.
TARGETS & PLANNING
Press and hold any target to pick it up and drag it, with a confirm card so nothing moves by accident. Mark friendly and not-friendly properties by tapping them on the map, owner names included. Snap a photo of your task sheet for instant target extraction, import from WatchMeFly, and share any target with another pilot — it lands in their pre-flight, in their own UTM zone.
CREW COORDINATION
See chasing crew as live dots on your map, share a one-tap live-tracking link, and talk with push-to-talk voice. A spotter can mark your map with a laser pointer to call out targets and hazards. CarPlay loads your crewed pilots automatically for the chase.
WEATHER
Flight-specific forecasts right at your launch coordinates, winds at every altitude, your choice of model (ECMWF, GFS, HRRR, NBM, RAP), and active TFR / NOTAM checks. A descent predictor is built right into the wind panel.
PLUS
External GPS / Balloon Live Sensor support, the SkyCast wind simulator, a cleaner tablet layout, and a fresh new look.
Thanks for flying with SkyBound — happy flying!
2.0 Jul 30
SkyBound 1.14 adds quick TFR control, track inspection, and a batch of reliability fixes.
SHOW TFRs TOGGLE
A new switch in Flight Settings turns temporary flight restriction overlays and the TFR warning on or off — for both pre-flight planning and live flight.
TAP ANY POINT ON YOUR TRACK
During a flight, tap anywhere on your flown track to see the altitude, speed, and heading at that point. The stat card stays put above the dot as you pan and zoom the map.
FIXES & POLISH
- The app no longer gets stuck on the splash screen when you open it offline after being signed in a while — it goes straight to your last screen.
- Cleaned up the Airspace settings: toggles that had no data behind them are gone.
- Smoother CarPlay chase — no position snap-back or unexpected follow drops.
- Fewer unexpected sign-outs.
Happy flying!
1.14 Jul 3
SkyBound 1.13 brings chase support to CarPlay, smarter GPS, and a faster flight-planning workflow.
NEW: CARPLAY CHASE MODE
Plug into CarPlay and your crewed pilots load automatically — no need to unlock your phone or open the app. Pan the map with your finger, zoom with the on-screen controls, and follow each pilot's color-coded live track and drift projection right from your car's display.
ONE TARGET EDITOR, EVERYWHERE
Add-a-target and task-sheet targets now share a single editor. Tap any target to change its shape, color, scoring rings, takeoff distance, altitude, and label — then delete it, attach it to a task, or share it with another pilot.
SEND A TARGET TO ANOTHER PILOT
Share any target with a teammate. They get a push notification and the target drops right into their pre-flight, mapped to their own UTM zone.
REDESIGNED TASK SHEET BUILDER
A cleaner, opaque builder with per-target Coordinates, Rings, Style, and Notes tabs, alphanumeric target IDs, a shape picker, and 4×4 to full-UTM coordinate entry.
MULTI-SENSOR BLS & EXTERNAL GPS
Pair more than one Balloon Live Sensor or external GPS and choose which to use from a list — switch or remove them anytime. And if a paired sensor stops streaming, your phone's GPS now takes back over automatically instead of freezing.
CUSTOMIZABLE TARGET STATS
Choose which stats your in-flight target card shows — including the new "Closest Approach," the nearest you'll pass a target on your current heading. Your layout carries across pre-flight, the SkyCast Sim, and live flight.
SKYCAST SIM WIND CHART
The wind chart now stays locked on your simulated altitude instead of jumping around.
FIXES & POLISH
- Overlays (drift projection, targets, and guide lines) redraw automatically after a brief signal drop.
- Drift cone Takeoff and Landing markers sit precisely on their points.
- On the crew map, tap anywhere to dismiss an overlay info popup.
- Various stability and display improvements.
Happy flying!

v1.12 - 3D Flight Comparison, SkyOps Owner Polish, Live Tab Upgrades
NEW
- 3D flight comparison. Multi-flight comparison view now has a 3D replay alongside the 2D one. Synced Cesium globe with one polyline + altitude wall per pilot, color-coded to the legend. Chase / Top / Free camera modes.
- Video export for 3D comparison. Pick duration, aspect ratio (9:16 / 1:1 / 16:9), and quality. Watermark + stat overlays burn in.
- SkyOps Live: landing + takeoff pins. Pilots' set landing and takeoff spots show on the operator's Live map exactly like crew sees them, including pins set before the operator opened the tab.
- ETA to landing on Live cards. Under each pilot's name on SkyOps Live and the crew per-pilot stat card, a small MM:SS countdown using current ground speed.
- Pre-chase trail backfill on SkyOps Live. Joining a chase mid-flight now backfills the full polyline up to "now," not just the segment since you opened the tab.
- SkyOps owner appears in their own roster. Virtual entry on Pilots, counted in "Pilots in SkyOps." Owner flights show in Flights, Live, and Compare even without an active SkyOps stamp.
- My SkyOps panel: owned entries. Settings - My SkyOps lists orgs you own with an "Owner" tag; pick your own org as your active SkyOps so new flights stamp.
- Default active SkyOps on join. Joining a SkyOps (join code, owner add, or flight-group seed) auto-sets it as your active when you don't already have one.
- Self-healing SkyOps stamp. Pilots in exactly one SkyOps who never set it active auto-resolve and stamp on their next flight - Live + saved flight log.
- Non-commercial pilots see their SkyOps memberships. The page lists orgs you've been added to with a clear "Upgrade to Commercial" banner.
- Apple sub -> Seats migration prompt. First seat add on an App Store sub shows a clear modal: your Apple sub keeps running until you cancel it, no flight logs, waivers, crew, SkyOps, or settings are lost.
- Add a pilot by email. New "Add a pilot" card on the Pilots tab - type a SkyBound account email and tap Add. No seat purchase required.
- Suggested-from-your-teams. Pilots who join a flight team you own or co-own appear as suggestions with one-tap Add (and Add all).
- Premium comparison stats card. Row-per-pilot layout with DUR / DIST / ALT / SPD. Values match the units you've set (kn/mph/km/h, nm/mi/km, ft/m). Updates live on unit change.
- Flights tab grouped by day. Sections for "Today," "Yesterday," and prior dates. Today gets an amber accent - colored header, "Live day" pill, ring border, gradient stripe.
FIXED
- Roster pilots flying without a SkyOps stamp now appear on Live and Stats - used to fall off the operator's map when their default was never set.
- 3D track no longer ends mid-air on soft landings. The stationary-edge trimmer used to chop the final minute of slow descents. Tail buffer keeps it.
- 3D replay altitude when terrain is unavailable. Falls back to a flat globe with a minimum-altitude offset so flights sit just above ground instead of floating at raw MSL.
- 3D KML targets stay anchored to the flight path on both personal and comparison 3D replays when altitude offset is recomputed.
- iPad 3D replay stability. Wall geometry densified per flight, recording rAF throttled to 30 Hz on Capacitor, tighter tile cache so iPad doesn't crash on record warm-up.
- 3D replay free imagery fallback. With Cesium Ion imagery quota out, the globe renders with Esri's tokenless World Imagery tiles.
- Waivers: file types + iPad PDF. Empty state lists PDF, Word, OpenDocument, RTF, text. Older iPads (pre-17.4) can open the field editor again.
- Empty amber notification pill on the dashboard for SkyOps adds no longer renders.
- Owner's pre-SkyOps flights appear in Flights, Live, and Compare - used to be invisible because the queries strictly filtered by stamp.
THANKS for flying with SkyBound.

v1.11 - Order of Operations, Multi-Goal Tasks, Crew Nav Tools, Marked Properties
NEW
- Order of Operations panel. The target stat card on both pre-flight and live maps has a pull-out tab that lists the upcoming declare, mark, and drop order for the active target across every task that references it.
- Multi-goal and multi-marker per task. The builder and auto-parser now support more than one goal per task on digital marker tasks (HWZ, JDG, FIN, FON, MDD). Sheets with Goal 1 + Goal 2 in the same task no longer collapse into a single target.
- Ascent projection. The descent projector card now has an Ascent direction. Picking it projects forward using your current climb rate, drawing a dashed path to where the wind will carry you at the target altitude.
- SkyCast task editor in-sim. Edit the task sheet while inside the sim - changes persist back to the pre-flight sheet on close. Ground elevation is also seeded immediately when you tap-to-place a takeoff.
- Crew tap-to-switch destinations. Tap any landing pin, waypoint, or target on the chase map to reroute the in-app turn-by-turn (and chase, if running) without ending navigation. The pilot's real landing pin stays anchored even when you are routed to a waypoint.
- Crew Open in Apple / Google Maps. Hand the current destination off to the native maps app while the in-app turn-by-turn keeps running.
- Crew long-press parcel lookup. Long-press anywhere on the chase map to fetch landowner info. 25 states plus St Charles and Jefferson County, MO.
- Crew folder overlays. Pilot folders now render as one toggle row per folder on crew instead of one per overlay.
- Pilot marked properties: Friendly + Not Friendly. Save landowners during a live flight as Friendly OR Not Friendly, pick the color per category, toggle owner labels on or off. Saves persist across every future flight.
- Crew push-to-talk. New red mic button on the chase map. Hold to talk to the primary pilot, release to stop. 1-3 second walkie-talkie semantics. The pilot's mic also lights up whenever any crew is watching (used to require a spotter), and each crew member can be muted individually from My Crew.
- PZ Scout. New community PZ overlay import. Drop a pin, set a radius, choose layers, fetch.
- SkyOps Live. Multi-select your actively flying roster and Start Chase mounts the crew-style viewer with every pilot on the map, plus every crew chasing any of those pilots (filtered to within 30 mi). Nearby crew pins cluster into one icon by default.
- Post-flight location share for SkyOps flights. End a SkyOps-tagged flight and an optional modal lets you keep sharing your location with the SkyOps owner for up to 60 minutes. A green pill on every dashboard page shows the countdown and a Stop button.
- SkyOps Flights tab is now interactive. Tap any flight row to open the full detail page in read-only mode. Multi-select via checkboxes and Compare on map opens a fullscreen multi-track map color-coded per pilot.
- Weather forecast keeps your selected hour. Moving the takeoff pin, switching models, or searching a new city no longer resets the slider to current time.
FIXED
- GPS altitude spike smoothing. Single-sample altitude glitches (drops or rises of hundreds of feet that snap back within a second) are interpolated from their neighbors. Cleaned at flight-end save AND on KML download.
- Crew display through brief GPS gaps. The crew display no longer flickers to "0 mph due north" when the pilot's GPS briefly reports null. Real 0 mph (pilot stationary) still shows correctly.
- Pilot keep-alive no longer fakes a fresh fix. When the pilot's GPS callback pauses, the keep-alive broadcast no longer rebroadcasts a stale position with a new timestamp. The crew sees a brief honest silence until GPS resumes.
- UTM grid stacking. Target diamonds and waypoint pins now render above the 4x4 grid intersection labels on the live map and SkyCast.
THANKS for flying with SkyBound.
1.11 Jun 2
NEW
- Overlay folders. Import a whole competition bundle in one action. Pick multiple files at once or a single .zip containing many .kml / .kmz / .gpx / .geojson / .plt / .wpt / .gdb / .gpkg files; the importer unpacks each into its own row under a folder you name. Folders are collapsible cards with a master visibility toggle (all on / mixed / all off), pencil to rename, trash to bulk-delete, and chevron to drill into individual files with their own per-file controls.
- Share folders to your flight group. Tap the share icon on a folder header, pick a group, and every overlay in the folder shares in one tap. Teammates see the shared folder as a single collapsible card with a Save-all button that copies every file into their personal list, grouped under the same folder name. No more sharing 15 rows one at a time.
- Multi-PZ tap stack. Tap a spot on the flight or planning map where two or more overlay polygons overlap and the popup now shows a header "N overlays at this point" with a row per polygon (color dot + name + first line of description). Tap a row to drill into that single polygon's bubble. Scrolls when many altitude bands stack.
- Aloft tab day pills. Today / Tomorrow / Wed / Thu / Fri / Sat / Sun pills above the hour cards. Tap a day to jump straight to that day's 24 hours instead of swiping through 24 cards at a time. Fills the row width on iPad.
- Aloft tab continuous color gradients. Sweep across the Temp column (purple cold, blue freezing, green pleasant, yellow warm, red hot) and the Direction / Speed columns (green calm, gray light, orange moderate, red strong, magenta storm). Light mode auto-darkens so pure yellow and "white" stops stay readable.
- Aloft tab shear indicators. Red hairline between adjacent altitude rows when the wind vector jumps more than 16 km/h, flagged on direction for turns over 25 degrees and on speed for scalar jumps over 15 km/h. Usually visible at the inversion layer or boundary-layer top.
FIXED
- Pilots no longer get signed out on every app launch. Sessions now live in Capacitor Preferences (iOS UserDefaults / Android SharedPreferences) instead of WKWebView localStorage, so they survive iOS storage purges, low-storage device offloads, Safari cache clears, and app updates. Existing sessions auto-migrate on first launch of this build.
- ZIP imports that contained non-KML files (Ozi .plt bundles, mixed-format archives). Every supported geo format inside a .zip now unpacks correctly. macOS shadow entries inside Finder-zipped folders are ignored.
- Crew no longer get two push notifications when a pilot starts a flight. The server now tracks per-flight whether crew has been announced and short-circuits any client retry (component remount, channel resubscribe, heartbeat re-fire) so exactly one "Pilot is flying!" push fires per active flight.
THANKS for flying with SkyBound.
1.10 May 23
NEW
- TGT Lines. Per-target approach lines drawn through the target with a small barb on the flight-direction end. Configure bearing, length, color, opacity, and width from Edit Target. Tap "Use wind at 50 ft" to snap to the live wind profile. Add multiple lines per target. Drag anywhere along the line on the map to rotate. From / To pill flips the convention without changing the line's physical orientation.
- IGC file import. Pull a .igc log into your flight log (Pilot dashboard, Flight Log, Import). Declared goals come in as task targets, marker drops as orange X pins. Both render on the 2D map and the 3D replay. Live-flown BLS drops now also persist to the flight log so the record matches what came off the logger.
- SkyCast wind import. Drop in a Propiloty CSV, Windsond windwatch.dat, a PDF export, or any text file from the wind editor toolbar. Format is auto-detected. Unknown formats fall back to an AI parser. Source datum (AGL vs MSL) and heading reference (true vs magnetic) are auto-handled.
- SkyCast ground-aware altitude. The simulator can no longer fly below ground. New sim drops the balloon at the actual takeoff elevation. Tap the HUD altitude gauge to toggle AGL / MSL for both the gauge and the sim input.
- Wind forecast pipeline 21 pressure levels using the model's real geopotential heights, plus AGL bands at 80 / 120 / 180 m for boundary-layer detail. Forecasts load the full granular set into the wind editor instead of a fixed 7-row ladder.
- APT graph zoom. Magnifying-glass button at the bottom-right of the graph cycles full view, 2 min, 5 min. Y axis auto-narrows to the visible window so Layer A and B bands fill more of the chart.
- APT auto-collapse on task complete. Target stat card collapses the APT panel down to a single header row with the final score the moment the task ends. Tap to re-expand.
- WatchMeFly events within 7 days now show in the Current list alongside live events. Catches competitions that post task sheets for practice flights before the official start.
FIXED
- SkyCast wind editor no longer resets your edited winds on close and reopen at the same takeoff. The auto-load is one-and-done per takeoff location, persisted across sessions.
- Pick a specific forecast hour, move the takeoff to a new location, and the new location's forecast now auto-applies at the same hour you picked instead of jumping to "now".
- APT projection accuracy in SkyCast. Both the elapsed timer and the projection line now scale with the sim's 1x / 5x / 30x multiplier instead of running on real wall-clock time. Projections end where the balloon actually ends.
- Wind line drag no longer flips the line 180 degrees when grabbing the back side of the arrow. Rotation tracks smoothly through any angle, dragging continues even while the line redraws.
- Task sheet builder visual pass. Flat task cards on a tinted slate panel with a clear parent-child hierarchy. Task type dropdown fixed for iOS WebKit (styling was being dropped).
- SkyCast "Same takeoff" reset button text is now solid white in light mode.
- Various smaller polish items in the SkyCast wind editor: sticky bottom toolbar (Add / Pull hourly / Import always reachable), forecast time persistence across location changes, wind layer count expanded to match what the forecast actually publishes.
THANKS for flying with SkyBound.
1.9 May 20
NEW
3D Shape Task (FAI Rule 15.20) support end-to-end. Build the wedding-cake airspace in the task sheet builder with a tier table (outer radius, optional inner radius for annulus shapes, altitude band, multiplier, color). Pick Fixed center or pilot-Declared center. The cake renders on both the pre-flight and live-flight maps with per-tier color tints and label chips. A live HUD pill shows the active tier and running weighted score as you fly through the bands. New scoring engine computes horizontal distance per tier with multiplier weighting.
3DT auto-parsing. The task sheet parser now recognizes 3DT wedding-cake diagrams from photos, PDFs, and WatchMeFly links. When the diagram is in an image, a focused second pass through Sonnet extracts the radii, altitude bands, and multipliers correctly even when the legend lists them in a different order than they appear on the diagram.
Public link viewers visible to the pilot. When a friend opens your /crew/live/token link, they get a quick name prompt. If they share, their dot shows up on your live-flight map labeled with the name they entered. Skipping keeps them invisible as before.
Pre-flight target card. The planning map top-right now uses the same target stat card as live flight, with distance and bearing from your current GPS, altitude, scoring radius, prev/next navigation, and edit button. Appears as soon as you add a target, not only after a full save.
FIXED
Crew live: pre-chase track now fills in reliably. The crew was missing a re-request when a pilot newly started flying after the crew app was already open. Fixed by re-asking for track-history on every flight-start broadcast.
Crew live: server-side track fallback. A new endpoint reads the authoritative track from flight_logs as a backstop when realtime delivery hiccups. Refreshes every 30 s.
Track-sync was silently never firing. The 30-second full-track rebroadcast had a useEffect dep that reset its timer on every GPS update, so the timer never reached 30 seconds. Now fires every 30 seconds as intended, giving late-joining crew and teammates a periodic snapshot.
Active-flights device check no longer traps pilots in joined mode. The safety check that forces this device into joined mode when active_flights.device_id doesn't match also requires the other device to have been active in the last 30 seconds. Stale rows from prior sessions no longer silence a flying pilot.
Update Goal cleanly replaces a previously declared marker instead of stacking a new one alongside it.
3DT centers don't draw a stray 300 ft MMA ring on top of the cake.
The Save button in the task sheet builder is gone. X commits the sheet and closes; auto-draft and auto-preview already cover the save use case.
THANKS for flying with SkyBound.
1.8 May 18
v1.7 - Teammate Winds, Descent Predictor, Worldwide Task Sheets
NEW
- Teammate wind sharing. Wind profile is a paged carousel - Me, each teammate flying with you, and a Combined vector-averaged page. Profiles broadcast every 30 seconds; pages auto-add as teammates join. The Me page even fills in altitudes you haven't reached yet from teammate data above and below you.
- Descent Predictor (iPad). Open from the wind card. Pick a target altitude OR tap a point on the map and SkyBound sweeps fall rates to find the one that lands closest. Draws the drift curve through your wind layers.
- Magnetic heading. Settings > Units > Heading. True or Magnetic toggle with auto-from-GPS variation (WMM) or manual offset. Applies to the HUD, wind profile, 3D replay, measure tool, and aloft view.
- Task sheet builder upgrades. New Max Dist Takeoff with a teal ring on the map, mi/km slider, ft/m switch for scoring radii, worldwide 4x4 UTM zones (15T Pella, 33T Szeged, 32U Munich, and beyond) instead of US-only, reference set by GPS, map-tap, or autocomplete, and a new Overlay mode that pulls targets straight from already-loaded overlay files.
- SkyCast improvements. Auto-loads current-hour winds on open. Forecast picker hours render in the forecast location's local timezone with the abbreviation called out. Historic forecasts up to 22 days back via GFS. Aloft winds extended through 18,000 ft. SkyCast Sim now respects your ft/m preference and won't notify your crew.
- Baggie drop helper. Predicted-landing dot stays perfectly centered in the amber uncertainty ring as winds shift, with a compact "DROP NOW" pill when you're inside scoring range.
FIXED
- Pilot dot now always sits on top of teammate and crew icons on Apple Maps; markers no longer hide on collision.
- Teammate tap target extended by 22 px and the dot freezes briefly under your finger.
- Projection line keeps the last valid heading when speed drops to 0 instead of disappearing.
- SkyCast lets you Pull RAP winds and see your location BEFORE placing a takeoff.
- Signing out on the web no longer signs you out on iPhone (and vice versa).
- Sign-in and sign-up buttons stay reachable above the iOS keyboard.
- Single map taps land reliably on Google Maps inside the in-app browser.
RELIABILITY
- Every flight is archived to your device the moment you end it - recoverable for 30 days even if the server forgets.
- Unsaved-flights banner now shows a live progress bar while syncing, flashes "Verified backup" for a second once the server confirms, then dismisses itself.
- Map overlays and airspace come back automatically when cell signal returns.
- "Teammate not updating" and "Server connection unstable" banners explain why dots froze.
- App boots through to your last-used dashboard within about 7 seconds when our backend is unreachable.
1.7 May 15
v1.6 brings full FAA Class E airspace coverage for US pilots — plus a batch of reliability and performance fixes.
CLASS E AIRSPACE (NEW)
The magenta and blue vignettes from your sectional are now on every map — pre-flight, live, and on the landing picker:
• Class E to surface — dashed magenta around airports with instrument approaches
• Class E above 700 AGL — soft magenta gradient
• Class E above MSL — dashed blue for offshore / high-terrain areas
Tap any polygon to see the class, floor, and ceiling. Each sub-type has its own toggle in Dashboard → Airspace, so you can dial in exactly what you want to see.
RELIABILITY
• Resume Flight no longer overwrites the part of your flight track captured before the app closed. Your full path is restored before any new sync runs.
• Starting a crew chase from the Live Flights page no longer occasionally shows the "Something went wrong" screen.
• Map icons (your blue location dot, waypoints, track lines) now reliably reappear when cellular returns after a drop. Previously they could stay missing for the rest of the flight.
• Pilots stay visible to teammates and crew through brief signal drops — the app re-registers your active flight automatically when service returns.
• Crew-side pilot tracks no longer freeze after a single bad GPS reading. Tracks now grow smoothly through real-world cellular gaps.
• Map gestures stay responsive — fixed an edge case where the measure tool could leave the map in a state where one-finger drag stuttered into zoom.
PERFORMANCE
• Big KML overlays (up to 5,000 features) now render without lag. Property polygons fade in/out as you zoom rather than overwhelming the map.
• Tap a property polygon to see its notes; long-press to edit name, owner, and notes inline. When a polygon sits inside airspace, a small picker lets you choose which info to view.
• Airport pins on Apple Maps render individually instead of clustering, matching Google Maps behavior.
• Airspace lines on Google Maps now match Apple Maps for visibility — Class E dotted lines were previously hard to see.
THANKS for flying with SkyBound.
1.6 May 6
Polish and parity release. Pick your map provider, pick your weather model, place waypoints and targets without fighting airspace overlays, and move them with a single tap.
SKYCAST WIND SIMULATOR
- Pre-flight → SkyCast lets you drop a takeoff, dial in a wind profile by altitude, and fly the app manually to see how altitude choices steer you across the map. Same HUD, target cards, drift cones, and measure tool you'd see mid-flight — only the GPS is synthetic
- Phone-friendly compact two-row sim bar with altitude input, ±100 / ±500 chips, play/pause, 1× / 5× / 30× speed, and a Wind editor button. Tablets keep the original floating side card.
- Sliding the wind card out of the gauge cluster covers the sim bar so the wind layers stay readable on small screens
- Available to everyone via /demo (no subscription required) — the demo chooser now offers Demo Flight (recorded replay) or SkyCast Simulator (interactive)
WEATHER MODEL PICKER
- Pick which forecast model drives your weather: Auto (best per region), ECMWF (global gold standard), GFS (NOAA global), HRRR (3-km US convective-scale), NBM (US ensemble blend), or RAP (1-hr-fresh CONUS rapid-refresh)
- Choice persists per pilot and applies to the Weather tab + the wind profile in pre-flight and live flight
- RAP runs through our own NOAA ingestion pipeline (fresh hourly), not Open-Meteo, so you actually get RAP and not a silent fallback
3D FLIGHT REPLAY
- Wall bottom anchored to actual terrain elevation (sampled per flight) so it looks like a real curtain dropping to the ground regardless of viewing angle
- Altitude-gradient track + bright sky-blue playback trail; per-segment quads on the wall give it the Google-Earth ribbed look
- Saved video bakes in the track + wall + pilot dot; save lands in Movies/SkyBound in the gallery
- Track and overlays no longer paint over the bottom playback controls
TAP-TO-PLACE OVER AIRSPACE
- Setting takeoff, adding a target, or dropping a waypoint inside an airspace polygon used to silently fail because the polygon ate the tap.
- Airspace polygons stay tap-to-inspect in normal browse mode
EDIT WAYPOINT / EDIT TARGET
- New "Tap Map" pill in both edit popovers — close the modal, tap anywhere on the map, and the existing waypoint or target jumps to that spot
- Target tap-to-move now actually moves the diamond on the map (previously the data updated but the pin stayed put)
- Scoring rings glide along with the target whether you drag or tap — applies to both per-target rings and the default scoring radius
SCORING RING POLISH
- Circle approximations bumped from 32 / 48 segments to 128 — visibly smoother at every zoom on waypoints and targets
- Ring color, opacity, and dashed pattern unchanged
AGL ALTIMETER
- When ground-elevation data is unavailable (rate-limit, no signal, or first GPS fix), the AGL gauge now falls back to MSL with the label flipping to "MSL" — instead of silently reading 0 ft AGL like a calibrated altimeter saying you're on the ground
- Demo replay AGL recomputes every frame against the cached ground elevation
UNDER THE HOOD
- Map rendering refactored onto a provider-agnostic engine so future map providers drop in without touching every screen
- Elevation lookups now persist for 60 days so flights you replay multiple times don't keep hitting the elevation API
REVAMPED TASK SHEET BUILDER
- folder-style editor with photo / upload / WatchMeFly auto-parse, editable 4×4 reference location + zone, multi-ring scoring areas, and long-press-to-drag targets.
1.5.1 May 4
3D FLIGHT REPLAY
- Camera orbit sized from the real bounding sphere + output aspect ratio, so 9:16 / 1:1 / 16:9 all fit the full track
- 1.2s hold before the intro sweep + quintic ease-in-out for a cinematic opening
- Tile warm-up before frame one and between phases - no tiles streaming on-camera
- 60fps capture (up from 30) with MSAA 4x; Standard (8 Mbps) / High (16 Mbps) quality toggle
- Google Earth-style altitude wall: toggleable amber ribbon from track to ground, burned into the video
- Pick which HUD stats burn in (ALT / SPD / HDG / LOC / DATE); persists per pilot
- HUD respects light / dark mode on-screen and in the recording
- Share sheet feedback: haptic tap, "Video shared" toast, modal auto-dismisses
- Chase-cam ignores sub-meter GPS jitter during pure-vertical ascents - no more 90-degree swings mid-video
- Trim + dedup filters consider altitude change, not just horizontal drift - a balloon ascending in calm air no longer gets chopped
FLIGHT STATS + GPS CLEANUP
- Top speed uses a 5-second sustained-window filter so a 1-second teleport can't inflate your stats
- Applied to GPX / KML / IGC import AND legacy rows - opening any affected flight auto-heals the stored numbers. A 134 mph glitch now shows the real top speed, no admin action required
- Trim: top speed recalculates correctly for imports without per-sample speed
- Track cleanup dedupes GPS-stuck positions before the resampler, so long dropouts interpolate smoothly
FLIGHT LOG + LIVE FLIGHT
- Multi-file import: Flight Log > Import accepts many GPX / KML / IGC / .sqlite / .hat / .zip files at once, aggregated into one preview with per-file errors
- 3D Replay is the primary button on a flight detail; 2D map is secondary
- Landing spot now lives in the target card cycle on live flight - next/prev through targets, waypoints, and Landing in one consistent UI
GOING WORLDWIDE
- SkyBound now live in 175 countries. Signup pulls from the full App Store country list; US / CA / AU / NZ / GB / MX get canonical state / province dropdowns, everyone else gets a free-text region labeled for their country
- Location search globalized - reverse geocoding returns "City, Region, Country" outside the US; launch-site search, competition lookup, pilot directory, and flight-planning all work worldwide
- Marketing copy, meta descriptions, OG card, and FAQ structured data say "worldwide" with Cappadocia / Mediterranean / Southwest USA as examples
- US-only surfaces hidden for international pilots: FAA TFRs, NWS, NOTAMs, parcel lookup, Invoicing. US pilots see no change
- Pilot license label generalized: FAA / EASA / CAA / CASA or equivalent
- Non-US web subscribers see a "Finish subscribing in the SkyBound app" panel with App Store + Google Play badges - Apple / Google handle VAT / GST automatically. US web pilots keep Stripe
WEATHER + POLISH
- Weather forecast refetches when you drag the drift pin to a new location - no more stale winds in your old city
- Dashboard Map Overlays card collapsed to match the other KPI tiles
- Short Bio in signup is now optional
- Choose-role page pilot card uses the standard SkyBound balloon icon

1.1 Apr 5
SkyBound 2.1 brings the SkyOps live tools back, fixes map overlay rendering, and adds automatic updates.
