NISHI
Your AI food intelligence companion for healthier habits, metabolic health, weight management, and life on GLP-1 and beyond.
Most health apps ask you to log everything.
Every meal. Every calorie. Every macro.
Nishi works differently.
It quietly learns from your food, sleep, movement, routines, and conversations to help you understand what matters today — and what small change is most likely to help.
Whether you're using a GLP-1 medication, working toward a healthier weight, managing diabetes, improving metabolic health, or simply trying to eat better, Nishi helps you make smarter decisions without turning your life into a tracking project.

more Logging food is faster and more accurate in this update.
• Scan a barcode or snap a nutrition label for packaged foods and get the full breakdown with the right serving size, not just calories.
• Adjust the numbers on anything you log, right away or later, so your day always reflects what you actually ate.
• Smarter estimates for drinks, restaurant meals, and everyday foods.
On Apple Watch:
• Check your calories, steps, sleep, and weight at a glance.
• Log your weight from your wrist with the Digital Crown.
We also fixed a rare crash when starting voice and made a number of smaller refinements.
2.5.2(52) 1d ago
Log packaged foods faster, and fix anything that looks off in a tap:
- Tap any food in a meal to correct its name, portion, calories, or macros.
- Scan a barcode or snap a nutrition label to log packaged foods, now with per-serving macros and a servings picker.
- Can't find a barcode? Photograph the label and Nishi reads it.
- Your profile photo now shows on your profile.
On Apple Watch:
- Log your weight right from your wrist with the Digital Crown.
- See calories, steps, sleep, and weight at a glance on a refreshed, more reliable board.
Plus sharper calorie and food matching, more reliable voice input, and speed improvements throughout.
2.5.0(51) 6d ago
More accurate calories: single dishes and drinks (like a cold coffee) now log with realistic numbers, not guesses that ran high or came out as zero.
See it by dish: the log card breaks a meal into its dishes with calories for each, so an off number is easy to catch before you confirm.
Edit anything: add, remove, or adjust items, in grams or ounces.
Plus reliability improvements.

• A brand-new Apple Watch experience. A bold, glanceable readiness face plus a quick energy check-in, rebuilt from the ground up.

Send a photo with your message. Snap a meal, menu, or nutrition label and ask Nishi about it in the same message. She reads the picture in context with whatever you typed.

Light mode, fixed. Switching to light now carries through every screen.
Easier account switching. The sign-in picker shows up reliably when you want to change accounts.
Plus more accurate weekly recaps and a round of polish and reliability fixes.
2.1.2 Jun 23
Now you can snap a photo of your meal and Nishi breaks it down. Calories and protein in seconds, from real nutrition data, and she remembers every meal so you can just ask "what did I eat today?" or "am I getting enough protein?"
What's new:
Meal photos. Snap a plate and get an instant breakdown you can adjust. Everything you log is saved under Plan, grouped by day.
Show Nishi anything. A menu, a label, what's in your fridge. Send a photo and she'll talk you through it, and those moments now stay in your chat.
A protein goal that fits you. Share a few basics and Nishi gives you a target to aim for.
From your receipts. See the trends in what you're actually buying.
Smoother all over. Screens refresh the instant you log something, the keyboard tucks away with a tap, and a long list of small things got fixed.
2.1.1 Jun 20
Nishi gets more personal, and easier on the eyes.
Dark mode. Pick Light, Dark, or match your device in Settings.
Wellness check-ins. A quick daily read on sleep, energy, mood, and gut, all on one screen. Tap, log, done, and Nishi folds it into what she notices about you.
She learns your taste. Recipe ideas now lean toward the cuisines you actually cook, and your Today feed shifts toward what you find useful. The more you use Nishi, the more she gets you.
Visit summary, now with charts. Your last 30 days of sleep, weight, steps, and resting heart rate, plus your grocery nutrition patterns, in a clean one-tap PDF to bring to appointments.
Shop smarter. Organize your list by store, with one-tap picks pulled from your week's meals.
Plus polish and fixes across recipes, the kitchen, and Today.

2.0.0 Jun 13
This release was about voice - making the kind of voice assistant a kitchen actually deserves. Instant, accurate, and quietly reliable in the background. We rebuilt the parts that mattered most and the result is a Foil that gets out of your way faster than ever.
INSTANT KITCHEN UPDATES
When you mark an item used by voice - from the phone or from your Apple Watch - the change now lands in your kitchen view the same moment Foil says "Done." No flicker, no navigating to another tab to see the change, no wondering if it actually worked. The same speed applies to partial consumption ("mark the milk 50% consumed"), full undo, and restore from Undo. Voice and tap both feel instant.
NATURAL SPEECH, FEWER MISFIRES
The voice agent is much better at understanding what you actually said. "Salad Ranch Dressing" finds your Ranch Salad Dressing - word order doesn't matter. Light transcription typos resolve gracefully (a speech recognizer occasionally hears "Gaffinated" when you said "Caffeinated" - Foil now matches that to your Coffee). Single-word commands ("mark the ranch") work when there's only one matching item. The agent searches all four storage locations - fridge, freezer, pantry, counter - before concluding something isn't in your kitchen.
EXPIRY QUERIES, ACTUALLY FILTERED
Ask "what's about to expire?" and Foil now answers with just items expiring within 3 days - not your whole inventory. "What's already expired?" filters by today's date. "Anything in my fridge going bad?" scopes the answer to fridge items only. The agent caps long lists, so for big inventories you hear the most urgent items first with a count of how many more remain.
NO MORE FALSE CONFIRMATIONS
If you ask Foil to do something it can't change - "mark BelVita 50% consumed" when it's already at 50% - it tells you the current state instead of pretending to act. The voice agent now trusts your current kitchen state over its memory of past turns, so older commands can't confuse it into responding with stale information.
RECEIPT RE-SCANS THAT MAKE SENSE
Scan the same weekly receipt twice and Foil now merges fresh items into your existing kitchen instead of creating duplicate rows. The quantity bumps on the existing item, and the expiry refreshes to the newer date. Partial leftovers from previous batches stay separate - that's intentional, since you'll often want to drain the older one before opening the new one. This is the realistic weekly-shopping behavior: scan, merge, get on with your day.
PULL TO REFRESH, RELIABLY
Drag down on any storage tab and the refresh now waits for the actual server fetch to complete. The spinner reflects what's really happening rather than a brief flash that disappears before any fresh data has loaded.
QUIETER KITCHEN OVER TIME
Items you've marked consumed are tidied up automatically after 90 days. Your active view stays focused on what's actually in your kitchen right now, not a growing backlog of every meal you've ever eaten. The cleanup runs quietly in the background; you don't have to do anything.
UNDER THE HOOD
- Server-side validation catches voice command edge cases that prompt-only enforcement couldn't reliably handle
- New database indexes keep active-item queries and background sync fast as your kitchen grows
- Conflict resolution improved so a slow network or a delayed background sync can't accidentally revert a local change
- Internal regression tests added so future prompt changes don't quietly break voice reliability
Thanks for using Foil. If anything feels off, the in-app feedback button reaches us directly. Voice is the core experience now, and we'd rather hear about a small annoyance early than have it ship unnoticed.
1.5.1 May 21
Foil now listens.
Hold the mic and tell Foil what you ate, added, or moved — partial amounts, multiple actions in one breath, undo built in. No menus, no typing. Works hands-free in the kitchen.
Apple Watch
Foil for Apple Watch arrives in this release. Tap the mic on your wrist and talk to Foil the same way you would on your phone. Your kitchen stays in sync between the two.
Onboarding
The first-run experience now includes a quick tour of the voice agent so you know what to say and when.
Widget
The "Expiring Soon" widget now reads "Use Up" when an item has already crossed its date, so the list never lies to you. Partial-consumed items show their percentage at a glance, even when the item has a weight.
Voice gets smarter
• Match item names by what you actually say, not what's on the label ("organic lettuce" finds "Organic Baby Lettuce").
• Cleaner refusals when you reference an item that isn't in your kitchen.
• Predictable arithmetic for partial consumption ("another 20%" does what you think it does).
• Move items to the freezer or fridge from anywhere in the kitchen.
Quality of life
• Shopping list and grocery stores stay isolated to your account across sign-in switches.
• Background fixes for stability.
We hope it makes Foil faster and more natural to use. Talk to it.
1.5 May 15
Welcome to Foil 1.4 — our biggest release yet, and the start of Premium.
A FRESH NEW LOOK
Foil has a refreshed identity. The orange snowflake is now the heart of our app icon, paired with a clean white splash and an updated logo across every screen. Sharper at small sizes, calmer at every size, and instantly recognizable on a busy Home Screen.
NEW · PREMIUM: EXPORT MY DATA
Your kitchen, your data. Premium subscribers can now export their full inventory and shopping history as CSV files with a single tap. Open them in Numbers, Excel, Google Sheets, or any spreadsheet tool — to back up, analyze your habits, share with a family member, or migrate to a new device. This is the first of several Premium tools rolling out across the year.
HOUSEHOLD SHARING, NOW EVERYWHERE
Households just got smarter:
• Shopping trips, shopping lists, and meal plans now sync collaboratively across every member of the household
• Shopping trips show "Shopped by [name]" so credit is clear when you and your partner take turns at the store
• If a member leaves the household, ownership transfers atomically — nothing is ever lost
A SMARTER RECEIPT SCANNER
Foil now reads receipts you'd previously have had to retake. Under the hood, every scan now runs through a three-pass OCR pipeline (enhanced, original, and soft-preprocessed variants in parallel), and Foil picks whichever pass yielded the most items. The result is a real, measurable jump in scan quality:
• Tilted, faded, and extra-long receipts now scan reliably
• Camera scans pass through the same deskew, binarize, and sharpen pipeline that gallery imports get — closing a quiet quality gap that was costing you items
• The streaming counter now pulses prominently on every item detected, so you can watch your kitchen fill up in real time
• "Accept all" appears when 3+ items need a quick review, letting you add everything in one tap
• Receipts from HEB, Aldi, and other chains that print line-leading sequence numbers (like "6 BAKED CHIPS") are now read correctly — no more reading the line number as a quantity
QUALITY GUARDRAILS, GENTLER
• Image-quality warnings now fire only on truly unscannable images — clean, well-lit photos no longer get a false "overexposed" flag
• Photos that genuinely won't scan now show a clear confirmation prompt with a one-tap retake, instead of silently using a parse on a dim photo
UNDER THE HOOD
• Streaming receipt parser now buffers events across network chunk boundaries — recovering five to seven items per scan that previously dropped silently
• Final scan event is no longer lost on slower or congested networks
• Deskew threshold raised so already-straight receipts aren't accidentally rotated by the corrector
• "Retake" properly clears scan state every time, so you never see ghost items from a previous attempt
ALSO FIXED
• Shopping History: long store names no longer overlap the item-count tag and the price tag
• Severe-quality scan dialog now correctly resets state on "Retake"
• Various small visual fixes across the app
A FEW TIPS FOR THIS RELEASE
• Trying the new scanner? Lay the receipt flat on a contrasting surface, fill the frame, and let the auto-detect do the rest. The new pipeline handles slight tilts and folds gracefully.
• Want to try Premium? Tap the badge in Settings → Export My Data, or browse plans in Settings → Premium.
• Sharing a kitchen? Open Settings → Household to invite your partner, family, or roommates. Shopping lists and meal plans sync the moment they accept.
Foil keeps watch, so you use what's ripe. Thanks for cooking with us — see you in the next one.
If you've enjoyed Foil, leaving a quick rating in the App Store is the kindest thing you can do. If something isn't working, write to support@getfoilapp.com — we read every message.
