I’ve used Goodreads for years and always felt like it was more of a giant database than an actual community for readers. Spine feels like the opposite. It’s built around the social experience of reading instead of just logging books.The biggest difference for me is the tiered ranking system. Instead of the usual 1–5 stars that end up clustering everything between 3.5 and 4.5, Spine lets you place books into clearer tiers. It makes ranking feel more intentional and useful. You can actually tell the difference between a solid read and something that belongs in your personal top tier, which is something Goodreads has never done well.What really sets it apart though is the social side. Spine feels like a hub for people who actually care about books and talking about them, not just collecting ratings. The sharing features and overall design make it easy to show what you’re reading and connect with other readers in a way that feels more alive than Goodreads’ older, more generic setup.If you’re someone who wants better ranking tools and a stronger sense of community around reading, Spine is a clear step up. Tanner’s put together something that actually feels built for modern readers instead of just another tracking app.Highly recommend giving it a try.

I’ve been in awe of Tan’s work ethic for as long as I’ve known him, but the conception, creation, and execution of Spine is by far one of the things I’m proudest of him for. I can say, in no uncertain terms, that Spine is the most user-friendly and sensible book-logging app I’ve encountered. I’m an avid reader but I’m a tech pariah, so Goodreads didn’t feel foolproof; it was clunky and awkward and would often crash unexpectedly when I was on a book-logging spree. Spine is streamlined and incredibly easy to use! I’m able to rank my favourite books in a tier list, see recommendations immediately, and see my own notes without digging through the app. My favourite features include (but aren’t limited to): -Tier ranking system (duh)-Ability to move between main feed and friends feed-DNF shelf (quite embarrassed that I utilise this one, but alas)A must-download for anyone who loves to read!

SPINE is such a wholesome app. It’s to see what your friends are reading, and it makes me want to read more. Ironically, an app that makes me scroll less. Also, I love the tiered rating system. Other book rating apps have me anxiety with the 5 star rating options because it didn’t seem so cut and dry, but I’ve been having a much easier time tiering out each book and seeing the visual rankings. Would recommend to anyone and everyone!

My favorite book tracking and rating app. Have used Goodreads and StoryGraph, but the visuals here are super clean and everything is very intuitive. You can also create a book club and mark your progress and the date of the meetings. Will be sharing this with my friends!
