New • Fleets: search an airline to see every aircraft we've seen it fly, with type, build year where known and when it last flew. Search a type to see which airlines fly it • Tap an aircraft for its card. While it's in the air, the card shows the flight it's on: route, times, progress and a small map • Tap the airline or type of a flight on the map or an airport board to open its fleet • Ask Siri "Where's my flight in Contrail" or "What's flying over me in Contrail". Saved flights show up in Spotlight • Passport: your year in flight, with totals, longest flight and favourites, ready to share • Airport boards warn about thunderstorms, low visibility, de-icing and strong wind • Pro flight alerts now also tell you when your aircraft is running late from its previous trip • My Flights shows what Pro adds for a flight you've just saved

New • Airport Live: open an airport's board and switch to Live to see departures at their gates, aircraft taxiing with taxiway names, the runway in use and recent landings — at 67 airports in Norway, the UK and the US (Pro) • On iPad the map stays in view: the airport board, a flight and its history open beside it • Pro now comes as a yearly plan, with three days free to try it • A new Pro screen Also • Weather on the map now comes from MET Norway

New • Aircraft history: tap a registration to see where the aircraft has flown, then open any past flight (Pro) • Search finds any aircraft registration • Get an alert every time an aircraft you follow takes off (Pro) • Turn flight alerts on or off for each saved flight Fixed • Tapping the departure, arrival or progress bar moves the map again • Registrations missing on part of the map • Some helicopters shown as airliners • Passport edits and deletions now sync between your devices

Contrail now speaks English, Norwegian Bokmål, German, Spanish and French across the app, widgets and Help. Choose your app language in iOS Settings. The updated welcome guide explains flight tracking and Watch the Sky on your Home Screen and Lock Screen. Fly along has improved virtual camera views and smoother estimated movement between position reports. Aircraft registration search now also finds aircraft outside the current map area, including aircraft without a live position.

New Lock Screen widgets show your next flight, or aircraft overhead when you have no upcoming flight. This update also fixes aircraft appearing stationary on the map and improves movement when live position updates are delayed.

The widget now watches the sky when you are not flying. Most days you have no trip booked, and the Home Screen widget used to say exactly that. Give it a place — your home, or the airport you watch — and it shows what is flying over it instead. It tells you where to look. How far away the aircraft is, which way to turn and how high to look, over a map of the ground between you and it, with the right silhouette pointing the way it is actually heading. Tap the arrow to look again right now. Something worth seeing gets priority. If a military transport, a head-of-state aircraft or another notable airframe is overhead, the widget shows that one rather than the airliner a little closer to you. Yours to decide which comes first. By default your own flight leads once it is within two days, and the sky fills the time before that. Change the window, or tell the widget to show the sky even when you have a trip booked. Pick your place under Settings, then Watch the Sky. Free for everyone. Also in this update: altitudes below 10,000 ft are written in feet rather than as a flight level, so an aircraft on final approach reads 400 ft instead of FL4.

Your next flight, on your Home Screen. The new Next Flight widget shows your gate, departure and arrival in airport time, and a route line that fills in while you fly. Free for everyone. Live Activity for the flight you are on. Lock Screen and Dynamic Island, with a progress bar that starts at actual pushback, your gate, and the arrival time, kept current by push. Pro. One arrival time, everywhere. "Arrives" now means the gate on every screen, the way your booking does. The touchdown estimate from the aircraft's live position is shown as its own line instead of replacing it. Also fixed: a flight number that flies the same route twice a day no longer shows the morning flight's times on the evening one, delayed flights count down to the expected departure, and widgets move on from a flight half an hour after it lands.

Smoother map • Aircraft glide between updates with realistic turns instead of jumping between positions • Fixed planes freezing at the runway after landing, and the selected flight stalling mid-track Search that finds your flight • Flight numbers from Norwegian, SAS, Ryanair and Wizz now resolve to the right aircraft, whichever operator is actually flying them • Search keeps working when a data source goes quiet Also fixed • "Show on Map" no longer loses the aircraft when you zoom out • Discover no longer comes up empty • The live map recovers properly when upstream data is delayed

Replay your favourite trips in 3D. Tap any flight in My Passport and watch the full route play back with cinematic camera moves — exclusive to Pro. Emergency squawk alerts (7500, 7600, 7700) are now free for everyone. Pick worldwide or a nearby radius and we'll push you when an aircraft starts squawking distress, hijack, or radio failure. Discover loads instantly now. The notable-aircraft feed pre-warms on app launch and is kept hot in the background, so the first tap on Discover lands on data instead of a spinner. Plus everything new in 1.6: the Discover hero feed (Air Force One, royal flights, celebrity jets), the single Layers button gathering every map overlay, UK Royal & military push and airspace, watchlist nearby scope, OGN gliders, gate-to-gate scheduled times, and a much faster live map.

Discover who's flying right now. The Discover tab now leads with a live feed of notable aircraft — Air Force One, royal flights, celebrity jets, historic warbirds — refreshed as they take off. A new Layers button on the map gathers every overlay (SIGMET, military airspace, gliders, holding stacks, aurora) in one place. UK Royal callsigns trigger push alerts, military airfields show service-branch badges, and London Heathrow approach holds render on the map. Watchlist now supports a "nearby" scope — limit alerts to a 100–2 000 km radius instead of worldwide. Glider tracking via OGN brings FLARM-equipped sailplanes to the live view. Plus: faster panning, smoother rotation, gate-to-gate scheduled times, and dozens of bug fixes.

Search any aircraft registration in your watchlist — not just notable tails. Add G-OBOE, your local airline, or any tail you can think of, and Pro will push you a notification the second it takes off. Tap a watchlisted tail to see live position, route, photo, operator, and full aircraft details — same view you get from the live map.
