v1.7 — your projects in the plugin and your host's preset menu, one library for the app and the plugin, and a free Export to Files. • PROJECTS IN THE PLUGIN — your projects now appear in your host's preset menu (AUM, GarageBand and others) and in the plugin's own library, free; pads 9–16 still need Pro. Save as Project in the plugin makes a new project the app opens too. Saving a preset in the host under a project's exact name saves over that project, and deleting the preset deletes the project. The plugin plays a project's pads and the pattern selected when it was saved; its other patterns, the song, chromatic mode, MIDI mappings and tempo stay in the app and are kept when the plugin saves. A host session keeps its own copy of the project: load it again to pick up changes made in the app. • PROJECTS LEAVE THE FILES APP — the app and the plugin now keep projects in one shared place, so they no longer show in Files. They move the first time you open GranSample after updating. The plugin can't move them, so open GranSample once on every iPhone or iPad where you use the plugin. The project files from before the update stay in Files → GranSample → Project Backups, and GranSample never changes them. • EXPORT TO FILES — in the Library, tap ••• on a project and choose Export to Files… to save it as a .gskit file anywhere in Files, free. Every .gskit now also carries the patterns, the song, BPM and swing, the MIDI mappings and the INT SEQ switch. A pad whose audio file is missing is exported without it, and the alert says which; such a kit opens in GranSample 1.7 or later. • SCENES AND PROJECTS — the factory kits are now called Scenes in the app too, as the plugin already called them, and your saved work is Projects. • CHROMATIC MODE — tapping an empty key plays the root, Chop asks before it turns chromatic off, and the Sample Editor previews the pad's own sample. • Fixed: the home screen fits an iPhone SE or mini with Display Zoom set to Larger Text. • Fixed: VoiceOver says which Pad Properties tab is selected.

v1.6 — every track in one grid, a beat that keeps playing in other apps, and factory sounds at their true pitch. • TRACKS — tap the grid button next to the gear and the pads make way for all 16 tracks' steps. Tap a cell to turn a step on or off, drag across to paint, drag up or down to set velocity. Tap a track number to select it; hold it to play the pad. iPhone pages tracks 1–8 and 9–16; iPad shows all 16 when they fit, and pages them when they don't. Tracks 9–16 need Pro. In SONG mode the grid is read-only. • BACKGROUND AUDIO — turn it on in Settings (gear) → Audio and a playing pattern keeps going after you switch apps or lock the screen, mixed with the other app's sound. MIDI from a keyboard or another app keeps playing your pads too. Off by default, and free. After 10 minutes in the background with no sound and no MIDI notes or controller moves it stops by itself. The mic never runs in the background. It doesn't follow MIDI clock or Link: to play in time with a host such as AUM, use the GranSample plugin. • INTERNAL SEQUENCER — each project now has an INT SEQ switch in the step sequencer, on by default. Off, SEQ and SONG don't start the patterns, and MIDI from a keyboard or another app still plays the pads. The plugin's Sequence tab has the same switch: off, your host's play and stop leave the pattern alone. The switch is saved with the project, and with the host session in the plugin. • FACTORY SOUNDS AT THEIR TRUE PITCH — on 48 kHz devices (most current iPhones and iPads) the factory sounds played about a semitone and a half sharp and 8% short. They now play at their true pitch and length, in the app and the plugin, so projects built on them sound lower and may need a retune. Samples loaded in the plugin now play at their own pitch too: on a 48 kHz device a 44.1 kHz file plays about a semitone and a half lower than before and a 96 kHz file an octave higher, so host sessions may need a retune. • LOAD MENU — Load offers the factory samples (Drums, Instruments, Textures) besides your files, in the app and the plugin. The plugin refuses files over 60 seconds, as the app does. • PLUGIN PRESETS — the plugin's ten Scenes now appear in your host's preset menu. • SAVE AND REVERT — Save Project saves over the project you loaded. The revert button always asks first: Revert to Last Saved, Revert to Original Kit or Discard Draft. New Empty Project starts truly empty. • CHROMATIC MODE — a sample loaded, recorded or chopped onto a pad while chromatic is on is kept for when you turn it off. A new sample on the root plays across all 16 pads; clearing the root turns chromatic off. • Fixed: a tuned pad keeps its Tune when played from MIDI; LFO settings are saved; SEQ plays the pattern on screen, not the last one you edited; painting steps is smoother. • Fixed: after a chop, each slice plays with the chopped pad's volume, tune, envelope and other settings at once. Before, it kept those of the pad it replaced until you reopened the project. • Fixed: Share Kit keeps your own sample on a pad named like a factory sound (such as Kick), and no longer fails with "sample file could not be found" for older projects. • Fixed: importing a kit warns about locked pads only when it has sounds on pads 9–16. It used to warn about any kit on more than 4 pads. • Fixed: the plugin holds up better when a host reopens a session or loads a preset while its window is open. • Fixed: the home screen fits every iPad in portrait, and the Pro screen's buttons stay on screen on the iPhone SE and iPad. On iPad, prompts show all their buttons, including Cancel. • Fixed: the What's New screen stays away once you swipe it down.

v1.5.1 — steadier audio. • Fixed sound cutting out for a moment during playback when pads were routed to a group bus, muted or very quiet. • Turning effects on and off while playing — master effects included — no longer leaves a short gap in the sound. • Switching effect presets and editing effect chains during playback is smoother, and a pad no longer goes silent after quick back-to-back effect edits. • The What's New screen no longer reappears after small updates.

v1.5 — groove you can feel, hi-hats that behave, and a way to turn your beat back into raw material. • SWING — drag SWING next to the pattern strip and every second 16th slides late, from dead straight (50%) to a heavy shuffle (75%). Downbeats stay on the grid; double-tap to go straight again. In the AUv3 plugin it swings in time with your host, loops included. • CHOKE GROUPS — put your open and closed hats in the same group and each hit cuts the other off, like a real kit. Off or 1–8 in Pad Properties; it works from the sequencer, MIDI and your fingers, and saves with the project (and in the host project for the plugin). • RESAMPLE (PRO) — tap RESAMPLE on the recorder and record GranSample's own output back onto a pad. With the sequencer playing it waits for the next bar and captures exactly 1, 2, 4 or 8 bars as a seamless loop, ready to chop, pitch or turn granular. Standalone app only. • A BIGGER, SHARPER DISPLAY — on iPhone the recorder display is more than twice as tall, and the waveform is redrawn from scratch: every hit shows its real attack and body, quiet parts stay visible, clipping is marked in red. The pad panel below is slimmer, and switching the sequencer between 16, 32 and 64 steps no longer shifts the screen. • A REBUILT PLUGIN EDITOR — the AUv3 now has Sound, Grain and Sequence tabs, the full granular controls and LFO / envelope modulation (Pro) right inside your host, 16/32/64-step patterns, and values you can type exactly. It follows the app's look and scales for iPad and Mac.

v1.4.3 — the plugin stops being the lesser half, and the granular engine finally shows its work. • LOAD YOUR OWN SAMPLES IN THE PLUGIN — the AUv3 plugin can now pull audio onto a pad from Files, without leaving your host. It stays put when you reopen the project. • ONE SAMPLE LIBRARY — the app and the plugin finally share their samples. Anything you record or import on one side is there on the other. Existing samples move across on first launch; you don't have to do anything. • WATCH THE GRAINS — switch a pad to granular and the display fills with the grain cloud: each grain drawn where it's reading from the sample, placed across the stereo field, fading with its own window. Position, size, density and spray all have a picture now.

v1.4.1 — bug fixes, thanks to a reader who wrote in. • LOADING YOUR OWN SAMPLES — picking your own audio could quietly do nothing at all. Worst of all from the GranSample folder in Files, which is exactly where we tell you to put samples. Fixed, and a failed import now tells you why instead of just sitting there. • YOUR SAMPLES STAY PUT — an imported sample could disappear from its pad after you closed and reopened the project. It's now copied into the app, so it comes back every time. • SHARE AUDIO STRAIGHT IN — send a WAV, AIFF or MP3 from any app and pick GranSample from the share sheet; it lands on a pad. We never appeared in that list before. • AUv3 PLUGIN WINDOW — some hosts ask a plugin which window sizes it can handle, and GranSample answered "none" — so those hosts showed a plain parameter list instead of the real interface. 1.2.4 — musical granular. Scale-lock pitch jitter, per-grain organic randomization on size / rate / probability, and a fourth LFO destination for density. PITCH SCALE-LOCK (PRO) Per-grain pitch jitter now snaps to a scale: Major, Minor, Pentatonic Major, Pentatonic Minor, Chromatic, or Off (continuous detune, the historical behaviour). Jitter range expanded to 24 semitones so scale-lock has room to range a full octave — set jitter wide and listen to the cloud arpeggiate itself across the chosen mode. Same idea as Output's Portal — random pitch that stays musical instead of detuned. PER-GRAIN JITTER Three new knobs in the GRAN tab. Size Jit nudges each grain ± a fraction of nominal length. Rate Jit jitters the spawn interval for drunk timing. Prob is a 0-100% gate — each scheduled grain rolls a dice; misses become silent gaps. Combined at low density they turn a smooth wash into a Borderlands-style organic grain cloud, without changing the average rate noticeably. LFO — GRAIN DENSITY DESTINATION The Granular LFO gains a fourth destination: GRAIN DEN, bipolar ± 2-octave (logarithmic) sweep of density. Joins position / size / pitch. Sample-and-hold + density makes for stuttering rhythms that re-cast every beat. UNDER THE HOOD AUv3 hosts gain 80 new automation targets (5 per pad × 16). Pitch scale, grain size jitter, rate jitter, trigger probability, and density-destination LFO depth are all individually automatable from Logic / AUM / GarageBand / Drambo / Loopy Pro. 628 host-automatable parameters total. 1.2.3 — the AUv3 Pro unlock fix that should have been in 1.2.2, plus a per-pad LFO for the granular cloud. AUV3 PRO UNLOCK — actually fixed this time 1.2.2 thought it was fixing this with a race-condition cleanup, but the real root cause was different: StoreKit entitlements are bundle-scoped, so the AUv3 plugin running inside a third-party DAW (AUM, GarageBand, Logic) couldn't see the Pro IAP at all — no amount of retrying helps if the lookup itself can never return the answer. 1.2.3 bridges entitlement state through an App Group instead, so the standalone app's Pro flag actually reaches the plugin process. If your AUv3 pads are still locked after a Pro purchase in 1.2.2, open the standalone app once after updating to 1.2.3 — the plugin will pick up the unlock within a second. GRANULAR LFO Each pad's GRAN path now has its own LFO modulating grain position, grain size, and grain pitch. Six waveforms (sine, triangle, saw, square, sample-and-hold, smooth-random). Run free in Hz or sync to host tempo (1/16 through 2 bars, dotted included). Optional phase reset on pad trigger so re-triggers always start from the same point. Pro feature. 1.2.2 — bugfix release. AUv3 PRO UNLOCK — properly fixed 1.2.1 was supposed to make standalone Pro purchases propagate into the plugin without needing a DAW restart. It worked for most users, but a race in the cross-process entitlement check could leave some Pro buyers with their plugin pads still locked. 1.2.2 closes the race: the unlock check is now write-once-true (it never downgrades on a transient StoreKit cache miss), concurrent checks single-flight instead of fighting each other, and the retry budget covers slow cross-process propagation. If 1.2.1 left you with locked Pro pads in your DAW, this release should fix it with no extra steps on your end. UNDER THE HOOD The AUv3 plugin's audio render path no longer takes any locks while reading MIDI settings or host transport state. Hey, solo dev. Big release. AUv3 INSTRUMENT EXTENSION Load GranSample inside GarageBand, AUM, Logic, Drambo, Loopy Pro, or any other AUv3 host. Same 4×4 grid, same 10 factory Kits, same granular engine. The plugin shows up as "GranSample" under AU Instruments. iPhone and iPad both, ~80 MB process budget. 420 host-automatable parameters cover master + every per-pad slider. Sequencer locks to host transport; tempo changes propagate. MIDI in routes through the host; MIDI out emits NoteOn so pad taps can drive other instruments. Save your DAW project, everything's back exactly where you left it. LIBRARY — UNIFIED PROJECT MODEL Tap the project name in the top bar to open the Library. Ten factory Kits + your own saved Projects, one screen. Load a Kit, tweak it, name it, save it. The red dot next to the project name tells you when work is unsaved; loading another Kit prompts you to save first. Settings is now just settings — every project lifecycle action lives in the Library. No more silent envelope/playback resets when you switch Kits — the full state saves and restores cleanly. Hey, dev here. Been heads-down a while — here's what finally landed. CHROMATIC MODE Flip the Chromatic switch, pick a root pad, and the whole grid becomes a chromatic keyboard. Every pad shows its note. Honestly surprised it took me this long to add — it turns the app into a real playable instrument, not just a drum machine. LONGER PATTERNS You told me 16 steps wasn't enough. Heard. Loops now stretch to 32 or 64 steps, paginated into tabs so your screen doesn't get crushed. PER-PAD ADSR (Pro) Proper attack/decay/sustain/release with a live chart you can drag. Type exact ms if you want. Every pad gets its own shape. SAMPLE EDITOR CLEAN-UP New per-pad properties panel: tune, loop, reverse, normalize loudness, trim playback range on an interactive waveform. Plus a LINEAR/GRAN toggle at the top — A/B both modes without committing. THE SILENT-MUTE BUG IS DEAD This one haunted me for months. Run the step sequencer with 2+ granular pads on, and eventually iOS's audio safety classifier would mute the speaker — you'd have to kill the app to get sound back. Spent a real amount of time log-diving. Turned out the main culprit was Debug-build overhead (release builds mostly didn't hit it), but I retuned the grain scheduler, spawn cap, sub-voice pool, and engine-recovery paths anyway so it's definitively gone in both builds now. If you ever emailed me "it randomly goes silent" — that report turned into this fix. Thank you. Also fixed a click when retriggering melodic samples, and sequencer stop now properly fades out granular tails instead of letting them hang. NEXT AUv3 plugin. Literally every week someone asks.
