more Oktoberfest exposed a flaw in how we read beer.
* Malt and roast are now two different things. A Märzen tastes of bread, toast and toffee. A stout tastes of coffee and char. They had been sharing one line on the Beer DNA chart, which is why a Festbier could come out with almost no malt at all. Scoring the Munich beers by hand is what gave it away.
* Every style now starts from a reference range drawn from the brewing guidelines, so a beer begins where its style should be, and its own details move it from there.
* Your saved taste profile is carried over to the new scale the first time you open the app.
* New style filters: Brett, California Common, Fruit Beer, Pumpkin, Wild Ale and more. Around 1,600 beers now sort into a style that didn't before, and nothing is left uncategorised.
* The rating prompt stays inside the app, and only ever asks once.

Finding beers
• You no longer need the umlaut. Typing "hofbrau" found one beer out of fifteen and we have about a thousand beers carrying umlauts.
Beer alerts
• You are now only told once. If the notification reached you, the banner stays quiet about that sighting.
• You can choose push, or in the app only.
The venues list
• "No venues in this area" no longer appears when a filter is the reason the list is empty. Each filter explains itself instead.
• Unearthed, Favourites and Pick show a banner with a tap to exit, as Ghost mode and At-risk always have.
Searching by location
• After searching one place you can now search another. With all eight Quick Picks full, the save prompt used to take over the sheet and remove the Search button.
• Saving a place is one pill, rather than a list of all eight saved areas.
Pub closure warnings you can trust
• Every closure risk score now names where it came from, and where that source has no entry we show nothing rather than inventing one.
• The same score used to read "Struggling" in one place and "Under Pressure" in another on the same screen. One pub, one description now.
• Your watch and your phone agree again. The watch kept its own copy of the score bands and was a level out, so a pub at 62 said one thing on your wrist and another in your hand.
Under the bonnet
• Opening the app no longer re-downloads the whole beer catalogue when there's already a fresh copy on the phone.
• Beer alerts let you choose how they arrive, and the alert on your phone matches the one in the app.

Scan is now called Radar — The tab was always a radar: the same dial, the same sweep, and the name everything else already used for it.
Beers replaces the Discover tab — Live tap lists grouped by pub, each under its name in gold and how far it is. Browsing for undiscovered venues is gone; adding a pub by hand isn't.
Unearthed Blips — The Radar automatically adds undiscovered pubs it finds as you move, ringed amber for their first 24 hours.
Figments — Some pubs only ever existed in fiction. They now sit on the radar as a hollow purple ring rather than the filled dot a closed pub gets, so a film set is never mistaken for a lost local, and Ghost Hunter counts them apart from the real dead. Harry's Bar, from The Day the Earth Caught Fire, is the first — the category is built to take more.
Create-a-Crawl moved to Venues, Tap Roulette to the radar dial — Both now sit where you would look for them: crawls with the pubs, the wheel with the thing that spins.
Curated Collections — Sets of pubs held together by something other than distance: a brewery's old tied houses, a vanished London chain, a guide from 1999. Each opens on a map with a tally you tick off over weeks rather than in an evening, and the ones that have closed open into their ghost.
One freshness rule everywhere — "On tap" means seen in the last seven days, on every screen and on the website. A beer eight days old used to count on one surface and not on another.
On the wrist — The Pick triangle follows the crown: widen the range and it moves to the best pub reachable at that range.

Apple Watch companion
Install PINtPOINT on your Apple Watch for a wrist-mounted radar showing pubs around you, plus a compass that walks you to any one you tap. Twist the Digital Crown to adjust your radius. Tap a blip for live bearing and distance, or hand off to Apple Maps for turn-by-turn directions. Tap "N Pubs" for a scrollable list by distance - gold venues are inside your current radius, white are further out.
Compare beers side by side
New comparison tool in the beer detail view lets you quickly see how two beers differ across flavour axes, with clear highlights on what sets them apart.
Ghost Hunter toggle
Ghost Hunter is now a simple toggle - no separate download or hidden setting. Turn it on to see every historical pub in the database, with a purple banner clearly showing when you're viewing closed venues.
Faster beer logging
Search the catalogue directly when adding a beer to a venue’s tap list. If the beer is already in our database, just tap the match - no need to hunt down the Untappd URL.
Nearby A-Z gets a third sort mode
Cycle between Distance → A-Z → Recently Added (calendar icon). Great for quickly spotting the latest user-added venues in PINtPOINT.
New target icon on PINtPOINT WORLD
Stops the auto-spin and centres the globe on your location. Tap again to resume drift.
Plus more countries now surface as tap-to-zoom pills once they cross the 5-pub threshold.
Performance & polish
• Faster cold starts in busy areas with significantly less data usage.
• The app now opens on your last-known location rather than defaulting to Trafalgar Square while GPS resolves.
• Tap any brewery name to see all their beers in one place.

- Untappd matcher restored. Every FSQ venue and every fresh area can now earn an Untappd match again.
- Trust chip merged — single teal Untappd via Google chip replaces two competing badges.
- FSQ venues can earn the trust chip for the first time (previously structurally unreachable).
World / map
- Auto-derived city clusters,
- WORLD STATS from server-side per-country queries.

Recommendations
• "Why this pint?" chips on Best Pint Next — see exactly why a beer
is matched to you (Hoppy match · Pale Ale profile · Fresh tap data ·
Close by).
• Fresh sightings outrank stale ones at the same venue.
• Draft and cask preferred over bottle/can.
Venues
• Freshness pills next to venue names: Fresh · Yesterday · 3d ago ·
Needs refresh.
• Chain hotels (Premier Inn, Travelodge etc.) no longer pollute pub
discovery.
Sip or Skip
• Beer-specific descriptors ("Pine, dry finish, citrus" instead of
generic "aromatic hops").
• Family-aware swipe axes — Stouts show roastiness, IPAs show hop-
forward character, etc.
• Refinement runs include real catalogue beers from your nearby venues.
1.10.5 Jun 7
• New splash screen/app icon.
• Discover: only Untappd-matched venues by default — every card
is one-tap addable. Two-step widen to all bars, then hotels
& restaurants.
• Smarter Add: niche pubs Google doesn't index now get found via
Untappd name + locality + proximity verification.
• Share any venue: tappable link with rich preview card. Opens
the app at that venue for users who have it installed.
• Beer label scanner picks up beer style more reliably.
1.10.4 May 30
PINtPRESS now reads inside the app — full essays, postcards and notes
accessible without leaving the radar. Find it via Settings → About → PINtPRESS.
Tap Swap on any PINtDEXTER recommendation to cycle through alternatives.
Recommendations no longer pull in beers last seen more than 10 days ago —
no more "great-on-paper but already gone" picks.
Troubled Pub Mode: per-venue severity labels softened — Stable, Under
pressure, Struggling, At risk, Critical. The source attribution to Ben
Guerin's website stays untouched.
Recommendation card now stays visible (in a muted state) when no fresh
match is available, instead of disappearing — clearer signal that the
feature tried.
1.10.0 May 22
