SFTP & WebDAV as native drives

SteadyMount mounts SFTP and WebDAV servers as native drives. Open remote files from your Finder sidebar the same way you open local files. No kernel extensions, no Recovery-mode reboots, and no "server disconnected" popups. Why SteadyMount exists: Every other way to mount remote drives on a Mac comes with a tradeoff. Mountain Duck moved license holders to a $49/year subscription in v5. ExpanDrive was acquired in 2024 and pivoted to $99/month. macFUSE with sshfs still works on Apple Silicon, but it needs Reduced Security mode and a Recovery-mode reboot to enable kernel extension loading. rclone mount works for some workflows but has friction with Finder integration and sleep/wake cycles. SteadyMount uses Apple's File Provider framework, the same technology behind iCloud Drive and Dropbox. The extension runs in a sandboxed process. When macOS pauses it to save power, the mount self-heals on the next access instead of throwing an error. Atomic-rename workflows like 'git checkout' and SQLite WAL commits work in the correct order. Reads have per-chunk timeouts, so a stalled server doesn't hang Finder. What's Supported: • SFTP over SSH, with password or SSH key authentication (ED25519 and RSA keys, passphrase-protected) • WebDAV over HTTPS and HTTP (Basic and Digest auth) • TOFU host key validation for SFTP, like ssh • Smart hostname detection: type a hostname and SteadyMount finds what's running • Servers appear under "Locations" in the Finder sidebar • Status, errors, and reconnection in the menu bar • Command-line interface for scripting (steadymount list, add, remove, health-check) • URL scheme for automation (steadymount://add?...) • Runs from the menu bar and stays out of your way Free trial. One-time unlock: 30-day usage trial with full functionality. After that, one connection stays free forever. A one-time $27.99 purchase unlocks unlimited simultaneous connections, tied to your Apple ID. No subscription, no renewals. Known limitation: File Provider presents a case-insensitive view of the remote filesystem to Finder. This matters if you mount a Linux server with files that differ only in case. Apple does not currently provide a workaround at the File Provider layer. A future version of SteadyMount may use FSKit if it matures. Privacy: SteadyMount connects directly to your servers. We collect optional diagnostics and feedback only when you opt in or trigger them. We use that data to fix bugs and improve reliability. We retain only what's needed for troubleshooting, security, and abuse prevention.

### Fixed - Fixed Finder deletes on mounted drives so files and folders are removed from the remote server instead of only disappearing locally. - Fixed trash handling for SFTP and WebDAV mounts that do not provide a real server-side Trash. - Fixed recursive folder deletion for non-empty folders on supported writable mounts. - Fixed Finder rename flows for newly created files and folders. - Fixed Finder "New Folder" and file creation behavior on writable WebDAV mounts that support folder creation but reject file upload. - Fixed cases where browsing large folders could trigger too much background file materialization and make Finder previews or directory listings feel stuck. - Improved File Provider refresh behavior after content is downloaded so Finder more reliably updates selected files after materialization. - Improved read-only detection so SteadyMount distinguishes fully read-only mounts from mounts that only reject specific write methods. - Fixed background reliability of automatic reconnection and periodic refresh, which could silently stop working for a mounted connection after the File Provider extension process recycled internally (a normal, expected macOS behavior, not a crash). - Fixed WebDAV connections that recovered write access after being detected as read-only staying stuck read-only in Finder until an unrelated restart; clicking Refresh now re-checks and restores write access. ### Improved - Added broader release coverage for normal Finder operations: create folder, create file, copy in, rename, delete one item, delete multiple items, and delete folders. - Added stronger responsiveness release gates for Finder browsing, reading, and previewing mounted files. - Refreshed the responsiveness baseline after the release gate passed. - Improved diagnostics around delete, trash, WebDAV write capability, materialization, and File Provider refresh behavior.
