THE PROBLEM
Multicam podcast and interview editing is tedious. You watch the entire timeline, manually cutting between cameras every time a different person speaks. For a one-hour podcast with three cameras, that can mean hundreds of cuts—all placed by hand.
THE SOLUTION
MC Auto Cut analyzes the audio from each camera angle and detects who is speaking. It generates all the multicam switch points automatically, producing a new FCPXML you can import back into Final Cut Pro with every cut already in place.
THREE CUTTING MODES
• Speaker Detection
Analyzes audio levels across all camera angles to detect the active speaker. Cuts happen when the dominant audio source changes. Adjust sensitivity, minimum clip duration, and analysis window size to match your recording.
• Timed Intervals
Switches cameras at a fixed interval you choose—useful for music performances, panel discussions, or any scenario where regular cuts work well. Pick from 1 to 30 seconds.
• Random
Switches cameras at randomized intervals between a minimum and maximum gap you define. Creates a more organic, less mechanical feel.
FINE-TUNING CONTROLS
• Adjust Timing — shift all cut points earlier or later to compensate for audio/video sync differences or creative preference
• Camera Order — control the sequence cameras cycle in (ascending, descending, or random)
• Marker Mode — preview cut points as markers before committing to actual angle switches
• Option-click any slider to reset it to its default value
HOW IT WORKS
Open MC Auto Cut from Final Cut Pro's Extensions menu
Drag your multicam project into the extension
Choose a cutting mode and adjust settings
Click Generate (or Analyze & Generate for Speaker mode)
Import the output FCPXML back into Final Cut Pro
Fine-tune any individual cuts as needed
PRIVACY
All processing happens locally on your Mac. No cloud services, no data collection, no account required. Audio analysis uses Apple's AVFoundation framework and never leaves your machine.
