Dictus takes you back to the app you were writing in. Tap the mic on the keyboard, speak, and you land back in Notes, Messages or wherever you were, with your text already typed. It works in 87 apps today. When an app cannot be resumed, the swipe back hint appears exactly as before, and Dictus never opens the wrong app. A new engine for French: Nemotron 3.5. Parakeet sometimes drifts into English in the middle of a French dictation. Nemotron can be locked to a language, so French stays French from the first word to the last. It is an added choice rather than a replacement: on clean French Parakeet is still more accurate, and Nemotron is weaker on English jargon. Download it from Models. A dictation started just after installing is no longer lost. The keyboard used to let you record while the model was still compiling, and the text never arrived. It now sends you to the preparation screen instead, and that screen stays up until the model is really ready rather than claiming it after two seconds. Also fixed: two words could get glued together after you deleted a selected word.

Dictation now survives being interrupted. A phone call no longer sends you into Dictus just to be told the microphone is busy. The keyboard says so where you are typing, whether the call is on the earpiece, on speaker or on AirPods. Recording right after a call, an alarm or a timer used to come back empty. It does not any more. Also fixed: a failure that stopped some dictations with a microphone error on a microphone that was free, a model download that could wait forever after losing the network instead of offering Retry, and an interrupted download that could look finished when it was not.

FASTER, SMALLER TURBO Turbo is now a 630 MB download instead of 950 MB, and a more accurate model than the one it replaces. MODEL PREPARATION THAT FINISHES Preparing a model no longer gives up halfway and throws away the download you just waited for, so Retry no longer re-fetches the whole thing. A model that gets stuck preparing no longer locks you out of the app. The screen now tells you a first Turbo setup takes about three and a half minutes, instead of leaving you guessing. FIXES A model now reports itself ready only once it truly is, so the first dictation after setup no longer fails. A model whose preparation was interrupted is no longer listed as not downloaded while its files still take up space on your iPhone. Dictation with AirPods or another Bluetooth microphone works after a phone call, instead of recording from the wrong input and failing on the first try. Backspace deletes words at a readable pace, stops at the start of an empty field, and no longer keeps buzzing after you lift your finger. Error messages in the keyboard are complete, readable, and written for a person.

TRANSCRIPTION POLISH Dictus can now use Apple's local Foundation Model to lightly polish what it hears: punctuation, casing, accents and small corrections, without changing your words. Nothing leaves your iPhone. Turn it on during setup or in Settings, on devices that support Apple Intelligence. CHINESE DICTATION Chinese joins French, English, German and Spanish. A KEYBOARD THAT FITS YOUR LANGUAGES Pick a layout for each language, so choosing a French dictionary no longer forces the keyboard everywhere else. An optional number row can sit above the letters, off by default. UNDO A DICTATION Inserted the wrong thing? The toolbar can take it straight back. A CLEARER MODEL PICKER Every model now lists the languages it supports. On older iPhones, models your device cannot run appear greyed out with the reason instead of quietly disappearing. Downloads show megabytes, detect a stall and resume where they stopped. FIXES Whisper models work offline again. Starting a dictation no longer tries to re-download a model you already have. Keyboard haptics are no longer silenced across the whole phone for ten minutes after a dictation. The audio engine no longer keeps running for hours after you stop recording. Autocorrect finally understands German umlauts and Spanish accents, and it leaves proper nouns, names, search fields and URLs alone. Tapping a suggestion replaces the word you are typing instead of appending to it. The keyboard no longer learns a typo the first time you type it, and words you did teach it now reach the suggestion bar. iPhone 11 and other A12 or A13 devices no longer loop or crash while preparing a model. A failed dictation now says what actually went wrong, instead of always blaming the download. Key sounds and haptics fire together again.
