Version 2.3 cleans up the menu bar icon and stops the app from working while nothing is on screen. A CLEARER MENU BAR ICON The icon is now a single glyph with no text beside it. Radio waves mean the connection is healthy, amber waves mean it is noisy, struck-through waves mean you are offline, and a shield means a VPN tunnel is up. Each state has its own shape, not just its own colour, so it stays readable at a glance and for anyone who does not distinguish colours easily. The round-trip time has moved to the hover card and the popover chart, where there is room to read it properly. This also fixes the "VPN" label being cut off to a bare "V" — the menu bar item now sizes itself to whichever state it is showing. NO MORE WORK BEHIND YOUR BACK Closing the popover only used to hide it. Everything inside stayed alive and kept laying itself out, so the app used a steady 2.5% of a CPU core around the clock with nothing visible on screen. The popover is now built when you open it and released when you close it, which drops idle usage to almost nothing. THE POPOVER FITS SMALL SCREENS On a 13-inch MacBook Air the popover could grow taller than the screen, pushing the bottom row past the edge. It is now bounded by the display it opens on and scrolls when the content does not fit, while the bottom row with Insights and Settings stays pinned in place. Requires macOS 14.6 or later.

Version 2.2 is a quality release: an honest connection type, and a big cut in energy use. ETHERNET IS FINALLY SHOWN AS ETHERNET When your Mac is on a cable while Wi-Fi stays associated in the background for Handoff, the app no longer claims you are on an "Unknown Wi-Fi". The popover, the dashboard, the hover card and Copy Diagnostics all name the real interface now — Ethernet, Wi-Fi or Cellular — with a matching icon. An associated Wi-Fi network is shown separately as a standby line, so nothing is hidden. Ethernet through a Thunderbolt dock or a USB adapter is detected too, and so is Ethernet running under an active VPN tunnel. Connection Log sessions and helpdesk exports record the real interface as well. MUCH EASIER ON THE BATTERY The app used to wake up in a tight loop: network probes, a disk write and a full database re-read every 10 seconds, plus VPN polling every 3 seconds. That loop is gone. - Menu bar and popover charts read from memory instead of re-querying the entire history on every save - Measurements are written to disk in batches — roughly six times fewer writes - VPN and proxy changes arrive as system events instead of being polled - Probing slows down when no window is open, and stops completely while the display sleeps - Low Power Mode is respected - Wi-Fi scanning runs only while you are actually looking at the network list STABILITY Three crash paths fixed: a use-after-free while the VPN monitor was torn down, a database fault race when old history was pruned with an Insights chart open, and an out-of-bounds read while collecting tunnel addresses.
