HOW IT WORKS
The Enigma cipher routes each keypress through a cascade of rotors and a reflector, substituting letters in a way that advances with every press. The simulated historical machine uses different rotor types, reflector types, positions, ring settings, and plugboard pairs — producing ciphered text exactly as it was done in history.
The app also revitalises the historical machine by letting you define custom rotors and reflectors. Custom reflectors can include fixed points, eliminating the no-self-encrypt weakness. The expanded code space reaches 26! × 26! × 26! — approximately 10^78 — making messages virtually unbreakable.
Enigma Cipher also supports all world languages, and lets you cipher and decipher in any iPhone app via the Enigma iMessage Extension, Enigma Keyboard, and Enigma Share Extension.

THE MACHINE
The container app is your settings and codebook control centre. A gear dial row at the top shows rotor positions in real time. Change rotors and rewire plugboard cables with a realistic interactive UI. The tester lets you encrypt and decrypt on a lampboard-style keyboard, with paper tape strips for input and output. All settings — rotor choices, ring settings, reflector, plugboard, and initial positions — are shared across the Enigma Keyboard, iMessage Extension, and Share Extension.
