On the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, without opening the app: • What today's avalanche report says for your region and your altitude • How steep your slope is compared with today's critical angle • The avalanche problems that apply right where you stand 3D TERRAIN: AIM, SHOOT, ANALYZE Point the aiming box at any slope and fire. First Chair builds the terrain in 3D and reads it for you. • Avalanche terrain hatched in red, steepness and aspect for every point • Swipe the lens: steepness, avalanche, cliffs, sun exposure, snow quality, wind and snowfall • Plan anywhere on the map, with live stats under the crosshair RESORT PAGES: YOUR RESORT, HOUR BY HOUR • Mountain weather from valley to peak, hour by hour, in a 3D forecast • Live webcams and weather stations on the 3D map • A snow quality score that shows exactly what raised or capped it • New-snow alerts for your favorite resorts WORKS OFFLINE Download a resort before you go. Elevation, basemap, runs, lifts and terrain layers stay on your phone, because mountain signal is not a given. WHERE THE DATA COMES FROM • Official avalanche bulletins: the EAWS warning services across the Alps, avalanche.org in the USA and Avalanche Canada • Your phone's GPS • Satellite elevation data (Copernicus DEM, SRTM) ONE MORE LAYER, NOT A REPLACEMENT First Chair is one more layer of information. It doesn't replace an avalanche course, your beacon, shovel and probe, what you observe, or your own judgment. Data can be wrong or out of date. You make the call, and you carry the risk. First Chair Pro is an optional auto-renewing subscription (monthly or yearly). Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. It renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; manage or cancel it in your App Store account settings. Protect Mode is simpler: one play/pause button, a checklist that makes sure Live Activities and location are allowed, and location only in the background while Protect is on. • Protect Mode asks which resort you're riding when it isn't clear, and offers to add and download a new one. • Swipe the bottom card to change the 3D lens. Lenses now switch instantly. • The position card tells you whether there's no avalanche service in an area or it just isn't reporting today. • A new resort picker shows the biggest resorts in your region. • Find resorts by town or village name. • Downloads are kept permanently. Choose the satellite quality: Saver, Standard or High. • Smoother map, better battery life in 3D, and many fixes.
