Kerf - Cut List Optimizer

Optimal cuts. Less waste.

Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.

New: Snap a photo of any cut list and Kerf imports it. Plus three layout strategies — pick the one that matches your tools. Stop guessing how many sheets of plywood you need. Kerf is the cut list optimizer built specifically for woodworkers. Tell it what stock you have and what pieces you need, and it shows you exactly how to lay them out—ready for the table saw, with every inch of plywood accounted for. — BUILT FOR THE SHOP — Natural Entry: Type measurements the way you'd write them on a piece of scrap: 24 1/2, 2' 6 3/4, or 1/8. Metric Support: Switch to millimeters or centimeters if that's how you work. Smart Kerf Accounting: Set your blade width once and Kerf accounts for it on every cut. Never come up short again. Grain Direction: Lock pieces to the grain when you care which way the wood runs. Auto-Sorting: Mix thicknesses in one project. Your 3/4" cabinet sides and 1/4" backs are sorted onto the right stock automatically. Progress Tracking: Tap each piece as you cut it so you know exactly where you are in the build. — CHOOSE YOUR LAYOUT — Best Leftover: Leaves one big reusable scrap. The default if you save offcuts for future projects. Fewest Sheets: Packs the cuts as tight as physics allows. Best when sheet goods are expensive. Easiest Cuts: Every cut is a full edge-to-edge pass. Built for woodworkers who only have a table saw—no jigsaw or track saw required. — IMPORT ANYTHING — Photo or Scan: Snap a picture of a printed cut list, cabinet plan, or handwritten notes. Kerf reads it and fills in the pieces for you. Voice Dictation: "I need four shelves twenty-four by twelve from 3/4 oak plywood." Kerf parses it. Files: CSVs, PDFs, and plain text all import directly. — TAKE IT TO THE BENCH — Visual Layouts: Swipe through your sheets one at a time, with every cut labeled and color-coded. Easy Sharing: Export your layout as a PDF or PNG. AirDrop it to your shop iPad, print it, or text it to a buddy. iCloud Sync: Start a project on your phone, finish it on your iPad. No accounts, no signups, no ads—just your private iCloud. Kerf was built for hobbyists who'd rather measure once on their phone than waste half a sheet of expensive plywood. If you've ever stood in front of a 4×8 sheet trying to mentally "Tetris" your cut list, Kerf is for you.

New in this version: • Import cut lists from photos, voice dictation, CSVs, and PDFs — no more retyping. • Three layout strategies: Best Leftover (save the big scrap), Fewest Sheets (pack tight), or Easiest Cuts (table-saw-only, every cut edge-to-edge). • Tighter layouts — packing fixes eliminate gaps between pieces, especially on Fewest Sheets. • iCloud sync so your projects follow you from phone to iPad. • Plus smaller polish: inline navigation titles, clearer strategy picker in Settings, and distinct "daily import limit reached" messaging when needed.
