New in 1.7: Debug Readiness for iPhone and Android — see if Xcode or adb can reach the phone over USB, and why not. Local, read-only.
iUSBDebugger is a USB hardware diagnostic tool for macOS. It brings USB device enumeration, USB-C cable capability, USB Power Delivery identity and Thunderbolt / USB4 topology together in one window — built for repair, lab and hardware validation work.
Everything is read from the native macOS IOKit registry. The Mac App Store build is strictly read-only: it inspects and displays topology and port status, and never changes device state.
USB-C PORT STATE
For every built-in USB-C port: what it supports, what it negotiated with the attached device, and what is actually carrying data. When a transport was agreed and never activated, the link failed to train — the reason a device can enumerate perfectly and still run far below its rated speed. Also plug orientation, cable flags, DisplayPort pin assignment, and running counts of plug events, connections and overcurrent faults.
USB-C CABLE IDENTITY
Reads the cable's E-Marker (EMCA) chip to distinguish passive, active and optically isolated cables, and reports rated current, supported USB data rates and connector type.
USB POWER DELIVERY
Identifies chargers, docks and peripherals from their Power Delivery identity, and lists the advertised voltage and current pairs — so you can tell whether a cable or supply actually meets what a device is asking for.
DEBUG READINESS
For a selected iPhone or Android phone: whether Xcode, Finder or adb can reach it over USB right now. Checks the debug channel (usbmux or ADB), link speed and hub path, and offers copy-ready diagnostic commands. Still read-only — the scorecard never opens or seizes the device.
APPLE MOBILE DEVICES
Detects connected iPhone and iPad hardware
THUNDERBOLT / USB4
Shows Thunderbolt and USB4 port topology and link bandwidth, read directly from the native IOKit registry.
USB HUB INSPECTION
Discovers connected hubs and reads their hub descriptors, including the XHCI root hubs behind Thunderbolt and USB4 docks. Reports per-port power, connection, enabled and overcurrent status, along with the hub's power switching mode — per-port, ganged or unsupported. When the macOS kernel driver holds exclusive access and the descriptor cannot be read, details fall back to the IOKit registry instead of failing. Supports both USB 2.0 (descriptor 0x29) and USB 3.0 (descriptor 0x2A) hubs.
SYSTEM LOG PER DEVICE
Select a controller, hub or device and read the macOS system log for just that selection, matched by USB location ID so a controller covers its whole bus and a hub covers every downstream port. Attach, detach, port power, I/O error, reset and link events are classified, with failure codes badged. macOS does not allow App Store apps to read the system log directly, so the app shows you the one command that exports it and opens the file you save; nothing is uploaded, and it can read no file other than the one you choose.
FULL DEVICE TREE
The complete USB device tree with host controller diagnostics.
The interface is available in English and Simplified Chinese, and follows your system language.
Requires macOS 14.0 or later.
A note on what the hardware can tell us: some details depend on what the connected device reports. Cables without an E-Marker chip cannot supply electronic identity data, and some devices expose only a limited set of fields on certain macOS versions.
This app hasn’t received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview.
A bummer
Fareed Fattal
This software is a jock. It does obsoletely nothing other than list the USB ports and connections which is already available in the System Information! I definitely don’t recommend this software!
DEBUG READINESS FOR IPHONE AND ANDROID
Open an Apple or Android device and see whether Xcode, Finder or adb can reach it over USB right now — and which check failed if not. The scorecard covers the debug channel (usbmux or ADB), negotiated link speed, and hub path depth, with copy-ready log show / adb commands.
MORE RELIABLE HOTPLUG
USB-C Power Delivery cable and device monitors, and Thunderbolt monitoring, now receive attach and detach on a background queue like the USB tree already did, so a dock burst no longer contends with scrolling the UI.
