Index is a visual art discovery and research platform that brings together a growing database of over 1 million sourced and cited artworks from museums, galleries, and archives worldwide.
Swipe through a personalized discovery feed to find works you might not encounter on your own — surfacing connections across institutions that no single museum could show you. Save them to your collection, where they're automatically organized into folders by medium, material, maker, and more.
Browse a searchable directory of 15,000+ makers with bios, works across multiple sources, and both visual and historical connections to related artists. Every maker page is a research tool, not just a gallery.
Search by describing what you're looking for. Semantic search matches your words to visual results across the entire collection. Smart Discovery finds similar works across museums. Smart Suggest recommends folders and folder contents from your latest finds. Visual Similarity sorting lets you see any collection ordered by visual relationships.
The discovery algorithm is fully customizable and transparent — adjust the balance between algorithmic and random recommendations, mute makers or clusters you're not interested in, and filter by time period. You'll always know why a work was shown to you.
Share works with friends, chat about discoveries, browse each other's collections, and build collaborative folders together. Index works as a personal tool and as a collaborative platform for teams and studios.
Index Pro unlocks an unlimited collection size, personal image uploads with visual analysis, and verified maker profiles for submitting your own works to the database. Your verified maker page can double as a portfolio — with your bio, contact information, portfolio link, and every submitted work discoverable alongside museum collections. A level playing field with institutional holdings.
Index has no ads, no marketplace, and no engagement-driven feed. Works are never promoted or ranked by commercial interest. The collection is sourced directly from institutions, databases, and verified makers. The algorithm serves your taste — not advertisers. Full privacy controls over your collection, folders, and uploads.
