Dictation, your way: - Choose your dictation shortcut. Keep the classic hold-Fn, pick a different modifier combo, or switch to Toggle and double-tap to start and stop — great for long-form dictation. - Writing profiles that follow your apps. Optionally map apps to profiles and Steno switches automatically when you dictate into them. Steno only reads which app is in front — never its contents. - Your dictation, by the numbers. A local words-dictated and time-saved tally in Settings. It never leaves your Mac. - Hear the moment. Subtle start and stop tones (Steno's own two-note step) and a completion chime, with optional haptics. Off, Subtle, or Full — your call. - Much better long dictations. Fixed rare cases where long recordings could be cut short, lose a middle section, or echo vocabulary terms; multi-minute dictations now transcribe smoothly end to end. - If your microphone changes mid-dictation (AirPods connecting, for example) or your Mac goes to sleep, Steno now saves what you said and tells you why it stopped. - Changed your mind mid-transcription? Cancel it right from the menu bar. - A tidier Settings, organized into General, Dictation, Writing, and Setup pages so every preference has an obvious home. - Experimental: live preview of your words while you dictate, in Steno's own overlay (off by default in Settings). As always: everything on device, nothing collected, nothing uploaded.

A big quality release for the core dictation loop. • A new status overlay at the top of your screen. On MacBooks it wraps the notch — expanding while you speak, showing a live waveform, and tucking away when done. Prefer the classic pill, or the bottom of the screen? Go to Settings > Appearance. • New: Vocabulary. Teach Steno names and jargon once — it hears them better, spells them exactly, and keeps them intact through Profile Rewrite. • Your first words are never clipped again: the microphone starts listening the instant you press Fn. • Silence no longer produces phantom text. • Nine built-in writing profiles are now one click away in the menu bar, each with an icon. Give your own profiles an icon too — any symbol or emoji. Hide built-ins you don't use. • Faster first dictation after launch, clearer status at every step ("Copied — press ⌘V to paste"), and many reliability fixes. Everything still runs entirely on your Mac. Nothing you say ever leaves it.
