Plan a route, send a place to a partner, and a report that keeps working with no signal. Plan a Route. From Tracks, tap the map to drop waypoints in order; straight legs join them and the terrain profile fills in under the line as you go — ascent and descent update with every tap. Save it and it's a track like any other: on the map, in the list, exportable as GPX with its waypoints. Open the saved route and tap any waypoint for the full report at that point — who manages the land, what the ground is, what's allowed. Legs are straight lines, not a trail route, and the app says so. Share links open in Place. Send a report, a saved place, or a route to someone who has the app and it opens on the spot, with their own fresh report. Without the app, the web page works as before — and a shared track's page now draws the line on a topo map, with a planned route's waypoints numbered. Offline, honestly. Every report you open is now kept on the device, so a place you looked at yesterday reads in full in a dead zone — instantly, with a note that it's the saved copy. A place you haven't opened says it's offline and loads itself the moment signal returns, instead of a column of "not available" cards. Nothing retries a connection the phone already knows is gone. Recreation sites say who runs them. A visitor center catalogued by USGS used to wear a USGS badge; Travelers' Rest State Park now reads Montana State Parks, a Forest Service campground USFS, and a site whose record names nobody gets no badge at all — the dataset is cited underneath instead. Parcel cards read like an envelope: "City of Missoula", "2800 40th Ave", "Parcel 1", instead of the county roll's capitals. The map draws its location dot far more cheaply — a ten-metre fix with a distance filter, no per-frame pulse — and the Lock Screen recording card updates every ten seconds instead of every two. Longer days in the field.

Your own layers, mountain bike trails, FEMA's flood map, Nordic ski areas, and camping on whoever's land it is. Bring your own data. Paste an ArcGIS service, a GeoJSON URL or a tile URL, or import a GeoJSON, KML or GPX file from Files, and it draws in your colour like any other layer — tappable for its attributes, and answering in a new "Your Layers" report section with the area you're inside or the nearest feature. Choose which fields the card shows, in the order you want them. The first layer is free; Pro removes the limit. Dispersed Camping now answers everywhere, not just on BLM land. National Forest: allowed by default, with the wilderness, the campground down the road and the Motor Vehicle Use Map's camping corridors read for you. State trust land: each state's own rule, quoted from the agency — Montana allows sixteen days with a Conservation License, Wyoming makes it a misdemeanor. Tribal, park, refuge and private land say whose permission you need. Fire restrictions and closures are never checked, and the card says so. Mountain Bike Trails, new: an overlay of singletrack coloured green, blue, black and double-black by its rating, from OpenStreetMap, with multi-use paths that permit bikes drawn lighter. The report section names the nearest rated trail, the named trails within three miles, the trail systems nearby and how much singletrack lies within six — Moab reads Slickrock, Bentonville reads 160 miles. Tap a trail for its profile. The rating is the mapper's, not the land manager's, and the card says so. Flood Hazard is drawn by FEMA now. The overlay is the National Flood Hazard Layer itself, rendered by FEMA's own map service in FEMA's own colours from zoom 13 in — the special flood hazard area, the 0.2% annual chance zone, areas protected by a levee — so what you see is what the flood insurance rate map shows. The card says what your zone means in a sentence: a 1-in-100 annual chance, the 500-year zone, reduced risk behind a levee, or that FEMA has not mapped this ground at all. It used to call every unstudied point "Zone X, minimal hazard". Nordic Ski Areas finds the 5,188 cross-country areas that have no downhill runs. The index held only lift-served hills, so a groomed trail system a few miles up the pass was invisible while a resort seventy miles off led the card. Every area now carries its kilometres of Nordic trail. The USGS National Digital Trails layer — Bureau of Land Management, Park Service, Fish & Wildlife, tribal, state and local trails — had gone quiet behind a changed schema, so refuges and parks were showing a Forest Service trail miles away. The closer trail leads now, and the badge names the agency that maintains it. Geologic Story tells it twice: the app's own statement of the bedrock, then a retelling written on your device by Apple Intelligence from those facts alone. Streamflow and snowpack charts always show the last thirty days. They had been replaying a cached month. Theodolite AR's Save Place lands on the ridge you aimed at, not the one behind it. A track's map shows the whole track. Hydrology no longer reports a tenth of an inch of snow as snowpack. The Stream Order help explains the whole Strahler ladder. Report values line up on the right edge, even when they wrap.

Hunting and fishing rules for the whole country — and checked against the source. Every state, DC and all five territories — 56 jurisdictions, up from a handful of Western states: districts, season dates, bag limits and access, the agency named and linked on every card, district boundaries drawn wherever the state publishes them, hunting overlays switchable by species, fishing rules by water. Checked against the source. Season dates are cross-checked against the season tables of 72 agencies, bag and size limits against the booklet text, and 39 rules were corrected where the transcription had drifted. A weekly check re-reads every state and flags the moment an agency republishes. Switching on a district overlay switches on the section in your report. National parks have their own rules, and the card now leads with them: 154 National Park Service units, each line quoted from the park's own nps.gov pages with the source linked — so Big Cypress says hunting continues by design and Shenandoah says it's prohibited. Who owns this ground? Property parcels in 28 states — tap one and Place names the owner of record, parcel ID, acreage and legal description, straight from the state's own cadastral data. Ten of those states publish boundaries without owner names, and Place says which rather than leaving you to wonder. Parcel boundaries draw as a tappable overlay in seven states, with owner labels in Montana, Wisconsin and Wyoming as you zoom in. A bigger map. Named peaks go national: 69,241, up from 15,491, with USGS 3DEP elevations. Named glaciers: 891, up from 155 — Juneau finally finds the Mendenhall. Wilderness from all four managing agencies, so Yosemite's is no longer invisible. Land Cover shows tree canopy beside the class and gets its own overlay. Spring Timing answers in Alaska, and Alaska's coastal towns are inside the supported area they were wrongly outside. Weather forecasts now come from the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, with hourly detail and precipitation as an amount rather than a chance. A guided tour — new installs get a one-minute walkthrough that flies to a real place, loads its real report, and points at the actual controls. Take it again any time from the Help Center. And every report section now explains itself behind the "i" on its card; eighteen had been shipping without one, including the whole hazards suite. Your Content — saved places, tracks, drawings and observations switch on and off from one place, and drawings get their own map layer. Nothing fails quietly any more. A location that couldn't be found, a layer that couldn't load, a share link or export that didn't happen, a section retry that failed again — each now says so, with a way back. Closing a layer's info card just closes the card; the layer stays on the map and your report settings stay yours. Switching a layer on no longer drops a pin you didn't ask for. Deleting a place, a track, an offline map or a field mode asks first; so does Stop while recording, on the phone and on the watch. Theodolite AR keeps updating after a permission alert or Control Center — it used to freeze until you reopened it — tells you when auto-calibration has moved a heading you set by hand, with Undo, and shows a Low Power chip when the phone is saving battery. HUD text is bigger and darker for sunlight. Free, fair: the track limit shows the upgrade before you start recording, never after a hike is done. Drawing on any saved place needs Pro, as intended. Every button has a name for VoiceOver and a full-size tap target. Hillshade defaults to half strength so towns and trails read through it. Metric users get metric flow, stage and snow depth. Report PDFs re-render when you change anything. The credits under Hydrology are back.

This release answers three questions Place couldn't answer before: is it dangerous here, can I drive there, and may I fly here. Hazards, free for everyone — active National Weather Service watches and warnings for the spot you're looking at, today's avalanche danger and forecast zone, recent and historic earthquakes, drought status, soil burn severity with post-fire debris flow risk, and recorded tsunami runups. These are the answers with a safety consequence, so they're free whether or not you have Pro. Where there's no avalanche forecast, Place says so plainly rather than implying the slope is safe. Road Access — road class and what vehicle a route actually requires, from passenger car through high clearance to four-wheel drive. The new roads overlay colors every road by that requirement, and closed roads get their own switch so they don't bury the answer to "where can I drive." Drone Flight — FAA airspace and the land manager's ground rules, kept separate on purpose. Legal airspace over a unit that bans launching isn't permission, and Place won't let one read as the other. Nearby public-use airports are marked as context. Dispersed Camping — a suitability read on BLM ground, drawn from surface management and access. It tells you where camping is plausible, not where a campsite is. Weather on the map — radar, rain accumulation, snow depth, and a traditional weather chart you can step across three days. In the report: measured conditions from the nearest station, surface smoke, aurora outlook, fire weather, and terrain shade — when the sun actually clears the ridge, which is rarely sunrise. Living Landscape — protected species habitat, what's actually growing here, and how far along spring is at this spot. All free. Trip Journal — your tracks, saved places, and observations, grouped into the outings they came from. Open a trip to see everything in the order it happened, then jump to any of it on the map. Navigate — bearing, distance, and which way to turn toward any point. Not turn-by-turn, because most of where you'll use it has no trail to follow. Directions still hands off to Maps for the drive to the trailhead; Navigate takes you the rest of the way. Layers & Sections rebuilt — map layers and report sections now live on separate tabs with search, so finding one thing among two hundred takes a moment instead of a scroll. Switching a layer off on the map now drops its section from your report too. Faster reports — sections no longer wait in line behind the slowest one. Reports you've opened before come back nearly instantly. Also fixed: several sections that quietly vanished on a second visit, weather overlays that couldn't draw or refresh, a drought reading frozen at the week we shipped it, roads missing their outline, and the offline map list you couldn't scroll past.

Theodolite AR gets a full pass this build, and peaks across the Rockies finally know how big they really are. Sun & Moon — see where the sun and moon are right now, marked in the camera view and on the heading tape, along with today's sunrise and sunset bearings. Plan the light before you set up the shot. It's all computed on your device, so it works with no signal at all. Smarter Peak Identification — peaks in the bundled catalog now carry real topographic prominence, computed from USGS 3DEP elevation data. Labels favor the summit that genuinely towers over the valley instead of the nearest small bump that happened to be closest to the center of your view. Richer Peak Cards — prominence, mountain range and massif, and where a summit ranks among everything you can currently see. Save a peak as a Place, or jump straight to it on the map. Night Mode — a red instrument tint that protects your dark adaptation after sunset. Saved Places on the Horizon — bearings to your saved places and your active track start, marked right on the heading tape. Alignment That Remembers — skyline calibration is now saved per location, so returning to a familiar viewpoint opens already aligned instead of scanning the ridgeline all over again. Truer Labels — summit elevations are refined against high-resolution elevation data, and Earth curvature and atmospheric refraction are applied consistently, so distant labels sit on the ridge instead of floating above it. Steadier in the Field — the instrument now recovers cleanly from phone calls and app switches instead of leaving the terrain mesh frozen or turned the wrong way. If location or motion access is switched off, the app says so and takes you straight to Settings. Named Neighbors — an unnamed summit is now labeled with its height plus the distance and direction to the nearest major peak, so a nameless high point becomes something you can describe and find again. Capture fixes: your notes no longer carry over to the next photo, and a capture records the peak you actually aimed at rather than the last one you calibrated against.
