Eras, told act by act Each era is now three to five acts. Read a short passage, then the volumes that belong to it. The year band at the top jumps straight to any act. On iPhone, swipe to move between eras; on iPad and Mac, the sidebar lists every act of the current era, and on Mac ⌘⌥↑/↓ steps through them. A redesigned Chronicle Four centuries drawn to scale, with a watercolour seal for each era. Figures, Atlas, Search and Today now share the same type and layout. Haptics on iPhone Moving between eras or turning a special issue's pages, you'll feel the period change: blunt and uneven for the oldest eras, a single crisp tap for the present. Meet Astor Astor is your digital docent in Isle of Time. While you read, tap the speech bubble at the top right to ask him anything about that volume. He answers only from the article in front of you, and everything runs on your device (requires a device that supports Apple Intelligence). - Keep asking follow-ups. He remembers what you've already talked about. - Every answer shows the paragraphs it came from. Tap one to jump back to that spot in the article, highlighted. - Each volume opens with a few questions worth asking. - Astor answers in English, too. - On iPhone, Astor sits in the bottom half of the screen and shrinks to a single bar while you check a source. - On iPad and Mac, he slides in from the right and the article moves aside, so you never lose your place. - On Mac, open or close Astor from the Astor menu or with ⌘⇧A. Press Esc to close. Faster and smoother - Articles open and scroll faster. - Search keeps up as you type. - The map moves more smoothly.

A new narration player - On iPhone, the player now fills the screen and scrolls. The progress bar has a mark where each paragraph starts, and you can skip to the previous or next paragraph. A Now Reading card shows the text being read. Tap it to open the article at that paragraph. - On iPad, the player also fills the screen: artwork on the left and controls on the right in landscape, one column in portrait. A list of paragraphs lets you start from any one of them. - Five playback speeds: 0.8×, 1×, 1.25×, 1.5× and 2×. The app remembers your choice. - Articles now mark where you stopped listening. Playback picks up at the start of that paragraph, not in the middle of a sentence. - Today has a new Continue Listening row for volumes you haven't finished. - On the Lock Screen and in Control Center you can skip back or forward 15 seconds, or drag to any point. - Playback now pauses correctly for phone calls, Siri and unplugged headphones. When a volume ends, you can play it again with one tap. - The mini player at the bottom has a new look. Also - Fixed many mispronunciations. Years are now read digit by digit. You can report a wrong reading from the "⋯" menu in the player. - Search works better in English and is now available on Mac. - Connect now sits below Information in Settings.

Fifteen new volumes, 160 in all. 111 archival images, and images inside a volume now open full screen. The atlas draws Kinmen, Matsu, Dongsha and Orchid Island. Fixed the zoom viewer's window size on Mac, and the clipped edge on figure portraits.

Special Issue — a long-form reading surface for a single subject, laid out like a printed magazine. Issue 01 is Yang Chien-ho: five chapters, four accounts from the people and institutions around her, a bibliography, and the sources. iPhone turns single pages, iPad and Mac open a spread. Tap the folio to jump to any page. Text size changes reflow the issue instead of cutting it off.

Today Tab — New Look The front page is now a full-screen magazine cover: era colors bleed to the edges, the lead story arrives as a cinematic vertical poster. On iPad and Mac, a two-column layout puts the lead story alongside a curated sidebar. History can now be read by where it happened. This update brings a location axis to the Atlas, letting time and place meet on a single map. ・Read history by place Filter by 15 cities and islands, from Keelung to Pingtung, including Hualien, Penghu, and Green Island. Choose one and the map focuses automatically, revealing four centuries of stories layered over the same ground. ・Era × Location, read together Use either axis on its own, or both at once. Select an era and step through events with the previous and next arrows; add a location and see exactly what one city lived through in that period. ・See a city's weight at a glance Each city shows its volume count and cover thumbnails, and combinations with no records yet are clearly marked — no need to tap through to find out. ・Island-wide events are no longer left out Volumes that shaped the whole island and can't be pinned to one place are collected in a pill above the map, one tap away. ・A persistent sidebar on iPad and Mac Eras and locations sit side by side, so you can adjust and compare in a single glance. ・Your view is remembered Leave and return to the Atlas, and your filters will be waiting for you.
