The Edict is a dark roguelike card game built around a single, endlessly shifting question: which rules are in play right now? Each run begins with a standard deck and a choice of Codex — your starting doctrine that shapes how cards score. Play cards by matching suit or color, chain combos, and accumulate points. But the real game lies in the Edicts. EDICTS — LAWS THAT CHANGE EVERYTHING Collect passive modifiers called Edicts that rewrite the scoring rules: Spades worth triple. Aces become Jokers. Every seventh card triggers a bonus. Odd cards score nothing — or everything. Stack Edicts to build a synergy engine that turns a simple hand into an avalanche of points. Edicts come in four rarities: Common, Uncommon, Rare, and Legendary — each more powerful and volatile than the last. ARBITERS — THE ENFORCERS OF LAW Every chapter ends with an Arbiter: a boss who imposes their own counter-law on the game. The Purist allows only same-color plays. The Banker caps your multiplier. The Judge blocks every third card. The Nihilist halves all your multipliers. Defeat an Arbiter to choose your reward: a Legendary Edict offer, an extra Edict slot, bonus Ink, or a deck purge to sharpen your hand. CARD MARKINGS — INK-TOUCHED RELICS Cards carry history. Mark them with Ink Stains, Red Seals, Gold Stamps, Curses, or Bureaucratic Seals. A Fragile card scores double but shatters after one play. A Witnessed card grows stronger with every use. Corrected cards become Aces regardless of their rank. THE META-GAME — INFLUENCE & CODICES Influence earned across runs unlocks new Codices: alternate doctrines that reshape your starting deck and open entirely new strategies. Daily Runs offer fixed-seed challenges for consistent competition.
