HIBIZO
Your days, carried quietly.
Free · In‑App Purchases
v1.2.9 — a stability fix for adding many photos at once: picking a big batch no longer runs out of memory or drops your selection mid-pick.
HIBIZO is a quiet, private place to keep thoughts, memories, and feelings — built for people who want their journal to stay theirs.
Every entry, photo, and tag is encrypted on your device with AES-256 before it ever reaches storage. If you turn on iCloud sync, your other devices receive the same encrypted bytes — Apple's servers never see your words.
· A 12-word recovery passphrase unlocks your vault on a new device. HIBIZO never sees it, never stores it in plain text, and cannot recover it for you.
· Face ID or Touch ID guards the vault on every open.
· Photos, mood, location, and calendar context are all optional. Pick what fits, skip what doesn't.
· The Sanctuary Garden quietly grows alongside you — 31 watercolor badges, butterflies and fireflies that drift past on the right days, a tree that flourishes as the journal does.
· Three onboarding paths: brand-new vault, recover from iCloud, or import an encrypted archive file. Whatever your starting point, your data stays encrypted under your control.
· Free across the lifetime of the app: every text feature, photo capture, location and calendar integration, the full Sanctuary Garden, encrypted iCloud sync, encrypted archive export, four languages (English, 日本語, 简体中文, 繁體中文).
· HIBIZO Pro is a one-time, lifetime unlock. It adds: unlimited entries (free tier supports up to 250), ambient garden creatures (butterflies by day, fireflies and will-o-wisps by night), an alternate pro app icon, the Flourishing tree stage, and watercolor moods inside PDF exports.
No ads. No analytics. No tracking. No third-party SDKs. There is nothing in HIBIZO that calls home about you, because we built it to be private from the inside out.
Now with a custom value tag per journal, and [PRO] Spreadsheet export.
more v1.2.9 — A stability fix for adding many photos.
Fixed a crash — and photos unselecting themselves in the picker — when adding many large photos to an entry at once. HIBIZO now prepares each photo at its storage size the moment you pick it, instead of holding the full camera files in memory, so selecting a big batch is fast and stable. Nothing about your saved photos changes: entries keep exactly the same photo quality as before.
1.2.9 Jul 25
v1.2.8 — Photo rotation, smoother picking, and clearer guidance.
Rotate photos both ways in the Composer. Long-press a photo while writing or editing (right-click on Mac) to rotate left or right; rotations apply when you save, so Cancel leaves everything untouched. The photo viewer gains a rotate-left button too.
Fixed photo picking: selecting several photos at once no longer unselects your picks while you're still choosing.
Pressing Sync now on cellular now asks whether to sync over mobile data or wait for Wi-Fi — no more silent waiting.
And setting up on a new iPhone, iPad, or Mac is clearer: HIBIZO explains the one-time re-link, guides you through Face ID setup if it isn't ready yet, and puts your Wallet card front and centre for one-tap recovery.
1.2.8 Jul 19
v1.2.7 — Faster iCloud sync, Photo info, and more scrolling polish.
iCloud sync is faster now — HIBIZO uploads just what changed instead of your whole journal each time, so your entries and photos reach your other devices much more quickly.
Tap the ⓘ on any photo to see how it was shot — camera, lens, focal length, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and the date it was taken. The details are read from the photo when you add it and saved encrypted on your device only — never synced to iCloud, and your location is never captured. (Camera details are saved for photos you add from this update onward; older photos show "No photo info available".)
We also smoothed scrolling further: long, photo-heavy journals and the Settings screen scroll more cleanly.
1.2.7 Jul 12
v1.2.6 — smoother, faster journal scrolling.
We gave the journal feed a performance pass. Scrolling is noticeably smoother now, especially on long journals with lots of photos: cover thumbnails load in the background and are reused as you scroll instead of being re-prepared each time, dates render faster, and the feed does less work on every row.
Nothing about your entries, your privacy, or your encryption changed — this is purely a speed-and-smoothness improvement.
1.2.6 Jun 30
v1.2.5 — a fix so large updates always reach iCloud.
As your journal grows — lots of entries and photos — a single iCloud upload could become too big for iCloud to accept in one go, so the whole batch was turned away and recent changes stayed stuck on your device. This release fixes it: HIBIZO now automatically splits an oversized upload into smaller pieces and retries until everything lands. And if a sync ever can't finish, the status now tells you exactly why instead of showing a generic error.
Your entries were always safe on your device — this only affected whether they reached the cloud. Nothing about your data or your encryption changed.
1.2.5 Jun 29
v1.2.4 — a fix for syncing when you write on two devices at the same time.
If you added entries or photos on your iPhone and iPad at nearly the same moment, an iCloud upload could collide with itself and get rejected — leaving those entries stranded on one device instead of syncing across. This release fixes it: simultaneous edits across your devices now reach iCloud cleanly, no matter how close together you make them.
Your entries were always safe on each device — this only affected whether they reached the cloud. Nothing about your data or your encryption changed.
1.2.4 Jun 24
v1.2.3 — a deep (fable powered) reliability pass: passphrase recovery, iCloud sync, and quiet failures all got stronger.
PASSPHRASE RECOVERY
Fixed recovery for Traditional Chinese passphrases. If your 12 words were ever rejected when setting up a new device, they will work now — nothing about your passphrase changed, the app just reads it correctly. The wordlist language picker on the recovery screens is now live as well.
ICLOUD SYNC
"Delete forever" now removes items from iCloud too, not just this device. Sync recovers automatically after long offline stretches (previously it could stall until a manual reset). And if the same entry was edited on two devices while offline, HIBIZO now shows you a conflict card so you choose what to keep — instead of quietly picking a side.
QUALITY & PRIVACY
Photo saves, restores, tag creation, and exports now tell you when something goes wrong instead of failing silently — and if photos can't be saved with an entry, they stay in the composer so you can try again. Exported files (PDFs, spreadsheets, your recovery phrase) are protected with the strongest file-protection class and cleaned out of temporary storage automatically. Deleting your vault now clears every trace, including temp files.
Plus a stack of under-the-hood fixes to keep entry details (photo order, cover framing, saved values) intact across sync, version restores, and archive imports.
1.2.3 Jun 15
v1.2.2 — small fix to keep iCloud sync working as your vault grows.
CLOUD SYNC FOR LARGE VAULTS
If you've been journaling daily for a while, your vault may have accumulated hundreds of entries, photos, and tags. HIBIZO's previous sync path bundled everything into a single CloudKit upload — which hit Apple's hard 400-record-per-operation ceiling and silently stalled with an "Upload failed" error in Settings → iCloud Sync.
HIBIZO now uploads to iCloud in smaller batches automatically. Your entries, photos, tags, and version history all reach the cloud cleanly, no matter how much you've written. The change is silent — there's no setting to toggle and no UX difference for you, it just works.
Existing pending changes flush on the first sync after install. Nothing is lost.
1.2.2 Jun 2
v1.2.1 — small polish pass on v1.2.0's cross-device recovery flow, plus your Wallet card now updates live in Settings.
RESTORING ON CELLULAR
Setting up HIBIZO on a new device while on cellular? You'll now see a prompt before HIBIZO pulls your encrypted entries from iCloud, so the restore doesn't silently wait for Wi-Fi without telling you. Tap "Pull on cellular" to grab them now (uses mobile data), or "Wait for Wi-Fi" — your entries arrive automatically the moment you connect.
WALLET CARD LIVE UPDATES
The HIBIZO Wallet card status row in Settings now refreshes automatically when you add or remove the card directly in Apple Wallet. No more bouncing back through Settings to see the latest state.
PRO SINCE
Pro users now see their original Pro purchase date on the Wallet card (the "Pro since" field). The date formats in your HIBIZO language — Japanese, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese cards show the date in the matching script.
UNDER THE HOOD
A round of cross-device recovery regression tests pinning the v1.2.0 fix, plus a translation pass closing several screens that were still reading in English on Japanese / Chinese devices.
1.2.1 May 31
v1.2.0 brings cover-photo control, beautiful filters, and Wallet-card recovery.
COVER PHOTO POSITIONING (Free)
Drag and pinch to frame your cover photo exactly.
COVER PHOTO EFFECTS (Pro)
Eight filter presets (Normal, Blurred, Dimmed, Monochrome, Sepia, Noir, Tonal, Chrome) with live-preview sliders for saturation, contrast, brightness, and warmth. Per-entry override or set an app-wide default. The preview tile updates as you drag, against your actual cover photo.
HIBIZO WALLET CARD (Free; Pro select your colour)
Save your 12-word recovery code to Apple Wallet. On a new iPhone or iPad, tap the card and HIBIZO unlocks your vault. Optional PIN protection (Argon2id-sealed). Pro users can recolour to one of nine card colours including pure white and pure black, and pick from three centre-strip artworks.
NEW ALTERNATE APP ICONS (Pro)
Rainbow Light joins the family — the elephant painting on a clean white background. Now four Pro icons (Gold, Rainbow, Rainbow Light, Keykeeper) alongside the free original.
1.2.0 May 16
v1.1.1 is a polish pass on the v1.1.0 launch.
• Composer font picker matches your keyboard. Japanese fonts show up when you're typing Japanese; PingFang weights (Light / Medium / Semibold) when you're typing Simplified or Traditional Chinese. The font picker in Settings follows your app language.
• Sync-conflict resolution sheet now shows photos, location, and calendar event per side — easier to pick the right version. Optional auto-merge for safe cases (toggle in Settings → iCloud Sync, off by default).
• Cover photos refresh on your feed when another device adds them over iCloud Sync. No more reopening the entry to see the new cover.
• More of the app reads in Japanese, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese, including the spreadsheet export sheet and several other surfaces.
• Spreadsheet export now appears on the Pro upgrade page (the feature itself shipped in v1.1.0 — this just makes it visible to free users browsing what's available).
• Small fixes: Settings → Appearance font preview now renders in the chosen font; the journal entry map-pin subtitle reads in your chosen language; and a few other polish items.
1.1.1 May 13
What's new in v1.1.0:
- Drafts that don't disappear
Start an entry, switch away, come back later — or start a second one without losing the first. Drafts are encrypted alongside the rest of your journal. A Drafts shelf at the top of the feed shows what's waiting; entries mid-edit show a small Draft chip.
- Take your journal with you (Pro)
Pro users can now export a filtered slice of entries — pick your tags, moods, and date range, and HIBIZO writes a CSV, TSV, or native Excel (XLSX) file. XLSX can embed each entry's cover photo as a thumbnail or full size. Opens in Numbers, Excel, or Google Sheets.
-Numbers alongside your entries
Track a value with any entry — miles run, pages read, USD spent. Tap "Add" in the Composer's Value section to attach one, or save your most-used unit as the default in Settings → Custom units.
- Quieter on iPad
Cmd-B and Cmd-I toggle bold and italic in the Composer for hardware-keyboard users. Map filter chips center cleanly on
the wider canvas. More iPad polish coming in v1.1.x.
- Behind the scenes:
tighter conflict resolution when syncing across devices, plus a privacy-hardening sweep through drafts and the share extension.
1.1.0 May 8
Privacy hardening — Improved on device information masking for iOS facing features, including stopping iOS from sharing your password on the Universal Clipboard (multiple device sharing). While helpful for other applications, we didn't think this was appropriate for HIBIZO's focus on privacy.
iPad — multiple photos would not be tap selectable, but could still browse. This is now fixed to allow tap for all photos.
App Store timeout - If the App Store has a hiccup loading purchase options, HIBIZO now tells you and offers to retry — instead of staring at a loading button forever. We know this is not fun.
More translations - hopefully you see less English when you are using the other languages like it was intended.
A forward-compatibility guard so future HIBIZO updates can change the vault format safely without confusing older versions of the app.
