Beachable
Know When To Go
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Know before you go. Beachable reads live tide, swell, and wind data and tells you, in plain language, whether today is worth it. No numbers to decode, just a clear go or no-go for the ocean activity you care about.
The ocean runs on its own schedule. Beachable does the interpretation for you: it pulls from NOAA buoy networks, tide models, and marine forecast APIs, then runs each location through a scoring engine calibrated to that specific activity. What you see reflects the actual conditions at your spot, not a generic regional average.
Beaching
Tide timing is everything. Beachable works out when low tide exposes enough sand to actually use the beach, factors in wave height so a low tide under 6-foot surf doesn't fool you, and gives you a window: how long it lasts and when it returns.
Surfing
Wave height alone doesn't tell you much. Beachable scores each break on swell height, swell period, direction match to that spot's orientation, wind, and tide state together. You get a single honest rating, plus a 10-day forecast so you can plan around your schedule.
Diving
Visibility is the one condition divers can't judge until they're in the water. Beachable estimates it in real time from sea state, swell, and wind data, then scores your dive site and tells you whether it's worth the drive.
Fishing
Tides, swell, wind, and seasonal species data combine into a single fishing conditions score. Current fish counts from local sportfishing landings are pulled live, so you know what's actually being caught.
Set your home location and Beachable loads the best nearby spots for each activity automatically: beaches, surf breaks, dive sites, and fishing grounds, from California to Hawaii, Ireland, Australia, Bali, and more. Every condition is personalized to your coast.
Upgrade to Pro for the full 10-day forecast, custom threshold alerts for any spot in your list, detailed conditions breakdowns, and gear recommendations.

more Added:
- Beachable can now ask you to rate it, once you have used it a while and the conditions are good.
- On a day that is not worth going, you can ask to be told when surf, visibility or the beach improves.
Fixed:
- The upgrade screen no longer waits forever when prices will not load. It offers Retry instead.
- On a future day, the Fishing banner now describes your default spot, matching its Bite Forecast chip.
- A tab that cannot load now says so and offers Retry, instead of loading forever.
- A tab no longer shows another activity's conditions when its own fail to load.
- Conditions kept from an earlier load are now labelled, so you know they are not current.
- Spot screens now say when conditions could not be loaded, rather than showing only dashes.
- Your alerts list now tells you when it could not load, instead of saying you have none.
- Requests now give up after 30 seconds, matching Android, instead of waiting a full minute.
- Managing beaches or spots now shows a proper empty state when the list is empty.
- An hour with an unreadable timestamp is now skipped, rather than being read as the current hour.
- Away from home, the hourly weather now shows day and night icons for your home beach's hours.
- Away from home, a dive site's day chips now show that site's own visibility for each day again.
- Your alerts now stay attached to your device when its notification token changes, instead of going quiet.
3.7.0 Sep 24
Added:
- The beach page now shows the hourly weather and sun events.
Fixed:
- The chlorophyll map now says when satellite data is unavailable instead of showing an empty overlay.
- Best session times now read in your own language instead of English.
- The chlorophyll Daily and Weekly toggle now matches the rest of the app.
- A surf spot now shows the water temperature, matching Android.
3.6.0 Sep 18
Fixed:
- Scrolling is smoother on every tab.
- Cards no longer show a bright line across their top edge.
3.5.1 Sep 17
Fixed:
- Hourly forecast hour labels now line up with the chart, and the last hour is no longer cut off.
- The Surfing tab now names the spot its swell and hourly forecast describe.
- Wind arrows on the hourly chart no longer touch the edge of the card.
3.5.0 Sep 17
Added:
- The hourly surf forecast now charts wind through the day, so you can see when it turns onshore.
- The Beaching, Surfing and Diving tabs now have an alerts bell, so you can see and add alerts for any spot.
- You can now edit an alert by tapping it, instead of deleting it and making a new one.
Changed:
- A spot's Spot Match and Ideal Conditions are now one card. Each line shows the reading next to what the spot wants.
- Beaching now reads "Closing Soon" instead of "Marginal" when the tide is rising into your threshold.
- The fishing conditions pill now reads "Fair", matching the word its own day chips already use.
- Stat rows now use one word per reading, so a spot's wave height is called the same thing on every screen.
- Surf spots now show a Tide row in the breakdown, and say when small surf is holding the score down.
- Condition banners now say the verdict once. The pill is neutral with a coloured dot, and the verdict line carries the colour.
- Cards now render the same shade whatever their height, so a short card no longer looks grey beside a tall one.
- The tide chart now shades only the beachable hours and dims the night, instead of washing the day red and green.
- The tide chart's threshold line stays quiet until the tide actually reaches it.
- High and low tide markers now match the rest of the chart's text, so a high tide no longer looks like a warning.
Fixed:
- Cards no longer turn bright blue when Reduce Transparency is on. They now match the rest of the app.
- The first and last wind bars on the hourly chart no longer hang outside the plot into the axis labels.
- Wind bars stay bar-width late in the day. With only a few hours left they were drawn as wide slabs.
- The hourly forecast now shows the whole day with your place marked in it, instead of shrinking as the day goes on.
- Late in the day the hourly chart fills its card again, instead of leaving the curve stranded in the middle.
- The hour numbers under the hourly chart now sit under the hour they label, instead of slightly to the right.
- The wind panel on the hourly surf chart now draws its bars. They were rendering at zero width.
- The hourly chart's wind bars now line up with the hour you scrub to. They sat half an hour late.
- Stat labels and section headings now read in your language. They were English on Spanish and Indonesian devices.
- The alerts list now loads with a placeholder instead of a spinner, so the screen no longer changes shape.
- The daily digest no longer says beach conditions are firing. It now says it is a good beach day.
- The fishing species list says In Season when no catches have been reported, instead of What's Biting.
- The Ocean Conditions card no longer renders a lighter grey than the cards around it.
- The alerts bell on a spot's page now opens that spot's alerts, instead of the full list asking you to pick it.
- Every tab's conditions verdict now reads in your language. It was English on Spanish and Indonesian devices.
- The weather strip, the UV level and the greeting now read in your language too.
- Tide stage, surf size and period words, and the moon bite rating are translated on every screen that shows them.
- Spot detail screens, the alert sheets and the paywall now read in your language.
- A clear sky and clear water no longer share a translation, and a high tide reads correctly in Spanish.
- VoiceOver now reads the day picker and the swell description in your language.
- Each bar in a fishing spot's breakdown now fills by how good that factor is, so a perfect water temperature reads as perfect.
- A fishing breakdown now lists what the forecast actually weighs, so offshore spots show sea state and thermal breaks, not the moon.
- Each factor now says how much of the score it controls, so a minor one does not read as a major one going well.
- The Fishing tab's Ocean, Temp, Wind and Tide readings now match the forecast that scored them, instead of using fixed thresholds.
3.4.0 Sep 15
Changed:
- The hourly surf forecast is now a chart spanning first light to last light, showing the height at your spot. Drag it to read height, period and wind for any hour.
- Wave period is on the chart too, so you can see a swell filling in or backing off.
- Today's swell now says whether it is aimed at your spot, drawn against that spot's own swell window.
- The tide chart on Diving and Fishing has moved down, above the spot list.
- On the Fishing tab, what's biting and the landing reports now sit above the chlorophyll map, so the catch leads and the water colour explains it.
- Push notifications read as sentences now. The daily digest leads with the activity, so you can tell what it is about before the title runs out.
- Switching tabs is immediate. The other tabs you use are loaded in the background while you are looking at the first one, instead of each starting its own load when you get there.
Fixed:
- Surf and dive alerts no longer arrive in the middle of the night. They now only send between 6am and 8pm where the spot is.
- Surf heights at California spots are more accurate. Two hours in every three were falling back to a rougher estimate, which read the day about a foot bigger than it was.
- Beach window alerts no longer call a beach beachable from sunrise to sunset on a day the tide never drops to its threshold.
- The daily best activity notification sends again. It had been silent since mid August because the server was discarding the spots each app sent it.
- Your alerts stay with you when your device's notification address changes. They used to disappear from the app while still sending notifications you could not turn off.
- Wave height no longer reads as flat when the buoy drops a reading but the swell data is still there. The fishing sea state warning could not fire while it did.
- Beach alerts now pick up a corrected tide threshold. Some had been stuck on the value they were created with.
- The daily digest now covers the location you have active. If you had saved more than one location, it could name a spot from another one.
- Ideal Conditions on a spot's page now describes that spot. Surf spots were reading a bundled list that had drifted from the forecast model, and dive and fishing spots showed the same four or five values everywhere. Fishing now says when the tide or the moon does not matter where you are, and names the water temperature the fish in season actually want.
- Spot cards now show that spot's own conditions rating. A spot the forecast could not score, such as one you added yourself, was showing the rating from the spot at the top of your list.
- Today's Swell no longer repeats the height and period from the conditions above it, and no longer disagrees with them. It showed the open ocean swell, so the same spot could read 3-4ft in one place and 5-6ft in another. It now shows the swell direction, how that direction suits your spot, and the best direction for it.
3.3.0 Sep 8
Added:
- Settings now has a Privacy section where you can turn off usage and crash reporting.
- The privacy policy explains your data rights and how to exercise them.
Fixed:
- Surf heights read as a tighter range, "2-3ft" instead of "2-5ft", so a forecast says what it means.
- The daily digest notification now actually arrives. It had never been able to send.
- Your alerts no longer disappear when the app reinstalls. They follow the device instead of being stranded.
- Every beach shows its real windows on future days. Only the top beach used to, so the rest read "Not Beachable" until you opened them.
- Notifications are now in your units and your language, matching the spot's card instead of always reading in feet and English.
- The beach banner names the day's longest window, instead of quoting one beach's window under another beach's name.
- Links to beachable.app, including the privacy policy and terms, now open the page instead of switching to the app.
- Surf alerts on spots you added yourself can now fire. They never could before, and nothing said so.
- Your activities are toggled and reordered right in Settings again, instead of on a separate screen.
- The forecast day chips no longer flash while you scroll them.
- The forecast no longer ends on a greyed-out day with no conditions. It shows only the days it actually has.
- Alerts that can no longer be delivered are switched off instead of retrying forever.
- Beach window alerts now arrive in Asia and the Pacific. They were being worked out for the wrong day there.
- The daily digest can now pick Beaching. It was never able to.
- Times in notifications read like the rest of the app, "8:00am" rather than "8:00 AM".
- Your alerts come back if a migration was missed, instead of staying invisible until the app happens to notice.
- The upgrade screen shows the monthly price in your own currency instead of always quoting US dollars.
- Subscription terms on the upgrade screen now appear in Spanish and Indonesian.
3.2.0 Aug 27
Fixed:
- Surf forecasts now show a wave height on every one of the 10 days, not just the first few.
- A surf spot's day chip, conditions card and hourly forecast now all show that spot's own wave height. They were showing three different numbers.
- The Surfing tab's day chips and banner now describe your default spot on every day, not just today. From tomorrow onwards they showed whichever of your spots was best.
- Wave heights no longer read as "1-1ft".
- Push notifications now say which activity they are about, and the reading that triggered them.
- The home-screen widget says "Good all day" instead of counting down 115 hours.
- The Swell, Visibility and Beach alert screens no longer float in the middle of the page when you have no alerts.
- The beaching favorites screen no longer offers a second, older way to set your location.
- The tide chart no longer squashes itself into a sliver after switching days.
3.1.0 Aug 20
