TrackHound: Navigation Remixed
Small roads. Real routes.
Free · In‑App Purchases
Start with a 14-day free trial. Other apps route around the gravel; Unpavediest goes looking for it, and only detours when the dirt is worth it.
TrackHound is customizable, offline navigation for everyday drives,
motorcycle rides, 4x4 trips, gravel detours, and weekend loops —
routing that runs on your iPhone.
Choose Fastest for the commute, Curviest for Sunday roads,
Unpavediest for dirt and gravel, or build your own route preset.
Then tune the vehicle profile, dashboard, and units to match how
you actually drive or ride. Every driver gets a slightly
different app, and that's the point.
WHAT'S FREE
- Plan routes with all four presets — Shortest, Fastest,
Curviest, Unpavediest
- Compare All draws every preset on the map at once — pick the
one that fits this ride
- Fine-grained costing controls to tune the current ride
- Preview closed-loop routes from a target distance and start
point
- Download your first region and calculate routes on-device,
even in airplane mode
- Export any route as a GPX file
- Live worldwide address search, pick from Contacts, and
long-press the map to set start and destination
TRACKHOUND PRO
Route planning is always free. TrackHound Pro — a subscription
or a one-time purchase — unlocks the on-the-road features. New
to Pro? The annual plan starts with a 14-day free trial:
- Roadbook turn-by-turn navigation: glance-readable maneuver
arrow with distance and instruction, rally-style route-
alignment compass (green on course, red when you drift),
speedometer with speed-limit coloring, portrait and
landscape layouts
- Navigate, save, and export closed-loop rides
- Import GPX files from Files or Mail
- Download additional regions beyond your first
- Save your own custom route presets
- CarPlay navigation (activates once Apple approves our
navigation entitlement)
OFFLINE & PRIVATE
Download a region once and calculate routes on-device, even in
airplane mode. GPS still gets you positioned without cellular or
Wi-Fi. Your routes and trips stay on your phone. No tracking,
no analytics, no ads.
MADE FOR EVERY KIND OF RIDE
The Monday commute and the Sunday backroad loop run on the same
engine — just different presets. Motorcycle and car / 4x4
profiles each cost the route their own way. Set km/h or mph and
the rest of the dashboard from Settings.

more Unpavediest now goes looking for dirt.
UNPAVEDIEST
• It probes for unpaved roads, weighs the extra time against the dirt it actually gains, and picks the dirtiest route that earns its pace. Before, it often handed back tarmac.
• Add a stop and it stays dirty — adding a waypoint used to quietly turn dirt-seeking off.
• Optional: include forest tracks that may be private or closed to motor vehicles. You are responsible for checking signage and local law.
CARPLAY
• If a route needs a map you have not downloaded, the car screen now offers to download it, shows the progress, and routes you as soon as it lands.
FIXES
• Cancelling a route calculation now actually stops it — and you can cancel from the phone too.
• A route holds up to 100 stops, and tells you when you reach the limit.
1.11.0 5d ago
A map of your area on the Home Screen, plus fixes for a few things that interrupted rides.
NEARBY WIDGET
• Put a mini-map of where you are on your Home Screen, with one-tap Search, Fuel, Food, and Record. Three sizes.
ROUTE MIX
• See what a route style actually delivered — the unpaved share on Unpavediest, the curvy share on Curviest — right next to the distance. Turn it on in Settings.
FIXES
• The acceleration meter no longer treats ordinary town riding as a launch, and its result card clears itself instead of waiting for a tap.
• The review prompt no longer appears while you're still riding.
1.10.0 Aug 8
Record your rides on camera, route an electric scooter, and set a routing mode for every stop.
RIDE VIDEO
• Record your ride from the front camera, the rear camera, or both at once — saved alongside the trip. Capture engine and ambient sound too, if you want. Turn it on in Settings.
SCOOTER
• A new Scooter vehicle type routes electric kick-scooters onto scooter-friendly roads and paths.
PER-STOP ROUTING MODE
• On a multi-stop route, choose how each leg is calculated — Fastest to one stop, Curviest to the next — right from the planner. No Pro needed.
FIXES
• Your saved favorites stay visible after you clear recent searches, plus smaller refinements.
1.9.0 Aug 5
Now on Mac and iPad, plus fully-offline street search and a clearer traffic view.
MAC & IPAD
• TrackHound now runs on Apple Silicon Macs and on iPad. Plan your routes on a big screen with a keyboard, then pick up your phone to ride — it's a planning companion, so ride-only features (turn-by-turn, recording, CarPlay) stay on the phone.
OFFLINE STREET SEARCH
• Search street addresses fully offline, inside any region you've downloaded — no signal needed to look up where you're going.
WORLDWIDE DATELINE FIX
• New Zealand, Fiji, Alaska, Kiribati, Tuvalu and the Russian Far East now route correctly across the 180° meridian.
LIVE TRAFFIC
• During navigation the route line now shows congestion in clear green / yellow / red bands (Pro, with Live traffic on).
1.8.0 Aug 2
Bigger vehicles, a map that remembers where you've been, faster routing, and a lot more CarPlay.
TRUCK & CAMPER
• A new vehicle profile routes by your real size — height, width, length, and weight — steering you clear of low bridges, narrow lanes, and weight-limited roads.
EXPLORED-ROADS MAP
• Every road you ride fills in on your own map. Watch your explored network grow, trip after trip.
FASTER & SMARTER ROUTING
• Curviest and Unpavediest routes now calculate dramatically faster, even on longer trips.
• New "Avoid ferries" preference for every vehicle type.
• Give your custom presets their own icon and color.
MORE ON THE CAR SCREEN
• Live traffic incidents now show right on CarPlay.
• Edit your stops mid-route without picking up the phone.
• Open your saved routes straight from the car screen.
• Switch the map between Road, Satellite, and Terrain, even mid-drive.
• A heads-up when your start or destination sits in a country you've chosen to avoid.
• The map self-recovers if it ever comes up blank or off-center after a relaunch, with a smoother location puck and speed-aware zoom.
ELSEWHERE
• Your trip-log iCloud sync status is now visible in Settings.
Route planning is always free; TrackHound Pro unlocks turn-by-turn, GPX import, unlimited regions, and CarPlay.
1.7.0 Jul 24
One release, a season of upgrades.
FIND ALONG ROUTE
• Need fuel, food, or coffee? Tap Find along route and TrackHound lists stops on the way, ready to drop into your trip as a stop.
WALK MODE
• A new on-foot profile with Direct, Quiet paths, and Hiking presets — plan a walk the way you plan a ride.
CHOOSE YOUR OWN ETA
• Pick a target arrival time — today or tomorrow — and TrackHound tells you the latest you can leave, folding in live traffic.
• One tap on the leave-by line adds a departure reminder to your calendar that deep-links back to your route.
RECORD FROM YOUR HOME SCREEN
• New iPhone widgets start a ride recording with one tap from the Home Screen or Lock Screen.
BUSINESS RIDES
• Tag rides as business, then export a mileage report or CSV straight from the Trip Log.
NOW ON FOR EVERYONE (out of beta)
• Battery-Smart GPS — full precision while navigating, easy on the battery the rest of the time.
• Auto-download maps at borders — cross into a new country and its map fetches itself.
• The traffic-coloured route line, Surprise me loops, and the driver’s-eye 3D navigation map.
• Save rides to Apple Health as real workouts (opt-in).
MORE ON THE CAR SCREEN
• Your favourites’ icons show on the CarPlay lists and Dashboard shortcuts — and you pick which two are pinned.
• Search falls back to a browsable saved-places list when the head unit limits the keyboard.
• Live traffic incidents now show in Compare all, a “Calculating route…” indicator comes with Cancel, and Go can no longer strand you on the trip preview.
SMOOTHER, SAFER
• Set a Maximum speed so planning never routes you faster than you want.
• Multi-stop trips can give each leg its own route style (beta).
• No more false “you’ve arrived” on a stale route, and no reroute churn while you push the bike around a parking lot.
• If saving a route, trip, or favourite ever fails, TrackHound tells you instead of losing it silently.
• Trip Log and GPX lists: collapsible months and multi-select delete.
Route planning is always free; TrackHound Pro unlocks turn-by-turn, GPX import, unlimited regions, and CarPlay.
1.6.0 Jul 18
TrackHound now speaks your language.
FULLY LOCALIZED — 20 LANGUAGES
• The whole app — every screen, alert, roadbook tile, and CarPlay view — now ships in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Japanese, Polish, Czech, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, and Simplified Chinese (with UK/AU/CA English and regional Spanish, French, and Portuguese variants).
• App Store listing and screenshots localized for every storefront.
• Voice guidance itself still speaks English for now — localized turn instructions are on the roadmap.
BATTERY-SMART GPS
• GPS now switches off the moment you leave the map and comes back the instant you return — no more always-on location arrow while you browse the trip log or plan a ride. Navigation, recording, and CarPlay always keep full GPS.
APPLE HEALTH: CYCLING WORKOUTS
• Bicycle rides now save to Apple Health as genuine Cycling workouts that count toward your activity and fitness stats.
CARPLAY RELIABILITY
• Fixed the Dashboard card showing a blank blue map after force-quitting the app on your phone.
• The map's buttons and Start Recording now survive a force-quit too — everything self-heals in seconds.
ACCESSIBILITY
• First round of VoiceOver and Dynamic Type support across the planner and roadbook.
Route planning is always free. TrackHound Pro unlocks turn-by-turn, GPX import, unlimited regions, and CarPlay.
1.5.0 Jul 9
1.4.1 brings 3D navigation, new road-awareness alerts, and fresh ways to plan — plus Apple Health and a stack of fixes.
3D NAVIGATION
• New pitched, course-up 3D map for turn-by-turn on iPhone and CarPlay — the road tilts into view as you drive.
• The route line now colours by traffic congestion, so you can read the slow stretches ahead at a glance.
• Speed cameras and traffic markers show right on the map, on CarPlay and iPhone.
ROAD AWARENESS
• Speed-camera alerts are now a standard feature (previously beta): an offline dataset warns you on approach, with markers on the map. Opt-in from Settings — you're responsible for local legality.
• Live traffic (Pro): congestion-aware ETA plus live incident, roadworks, and closure markers along your route.
• Dead-end warning (beta): a spoken heads-up — with the road's length and whether it's unpaved — as you enter a no-through-road.
NEW WAYS TO PLAN
• Surprise me (beta): one tap builds an auto-loop from your location through nearby town and village centres, all as editable stops.
• Bicycle routing: a new mode using Valhalla's native bicycle costing.
• Prefer narrow roads for motorcycles (beta): steer routing toward smaller, quieter roads.
• Preload destinations from your calendar events.
RIDES
• Save completed rides to Apple Health as workouts.
CARPLAY
• Auto-select your vehicle from the connected car — CarPlay switches you to Car, and unplugging restores your previous vehicle.
• The 3D navigation camera is now out of beta.
• Fixed the Dashboard maneuver text.
FIXES
• Fixed a CarPlay map freeze when starting a new trip, and silent voice guidance on a cold, locked CarPlay relaunch.
• The CarPlay Dashboard map now stays up to date while you drive, and the CarPlay map reliably appears on a cold start instead of coming up blank.
• The "Not enough storage" warning no longer flashes and vanishes.
• The roadbook and map now follow your phone's orientation by default.
• The nav map no longer zooms back out to the whole route mid-drive.
Speed-camera alerts and Live traffic are opt-in from Settings; Live traffic sends your route to the traffic provider. CarPlay navigation and Live traffic require TrackHound Pro. Route planning is always free.
1.4.1 Jul 7
1.4.0 is a big CarPlay update, plus new planning and roadbook tools — the full picture since 1.3.0:
CARPLAY
• Dashboard: TrackHound's live moving map now appears in the CarPlay Dashboard card, next to Now Playing — with shortcut buttons for your recent favourites to start a route in one tap.
• Instrument tiles on the CarPlay map — speed with the posted speed-limit sign, route-alignment heading, vehicle attitude (pitch & roll), and current altitude — colour-coded green / orange / red and configurable.
• Lane guidance (beta): which lane(s) to take at upcoming maneuvers.
• Edge cues: the screen edge blinks orange toward your next turn and glows red when you're over the limit.
• Tap the map to drop a destination, zoom and pan with the car's controls, auto-recenter to your route, and reroute on the car screen with no phone needed.
• The maneuver card matches the car's day & night theme, and instructions no longer flicker.
PLANNING
• Route padding by target duration — enter how long you want to be out and TrackHound extends the route to match your pace.
• Route styles: common vs style-specific tuning grouped clearly, each control with a "modified" dot and one-tap reset.
ROADBOOK & RIDES
• Altitude tile (current elevation, m/ft) and a user-set safe pitch/roll for the attitude gauge, per vehicle.
• Choose your own accent colour (Settings → Roadbook Appearance).
• Post-ride summary adds ride telemetrics (acceleration, braking, top/avg speed, lean) and shows your intermediate stops.
• GPX history: re-open past imports and exports.
• Intermediate stops pause on arrival with a Continue prompt and numbered map markers, on CarPlay and iPhone.
FIXES
• Route corridor basemap cached for smoother offline navigation.
• A second route always starts without restarting the app.
• Clearer attitude readout.
CarPlay navigation requires TrackHound Pro and activates once Apple approves our navigation entitlement. Route planning is always free.
1.4.0 Jul 4
A whole new way to navigate, plus more control over your maps:
• Map navigation style — a full-screen moving map that follows you, with your speed, the speed limit, distance and ETA right on the map. Flip between Map and Roadbook with the on-screen button; your choice is remembered per vehicle.
• Heading cone on the blue dot, so you can see which way you're facing.
• Stay in country — keep a route from crossing a border (insurance, vignettes, fuel prices). In the Route style menu.
• Space Lens — manage your downloaded maps: see sizes, sort by last used, delete with a tap.
• Auto-download a country's map when you cross the border (beta, opt-in).
• Route padding (beta) — stretch an A→B into a longer ride toward a target distance.
Routing is always free; TrackHound Pro adds turn-by-turn navigation.
1.3.0 Jun 26

• Multi-region downloads show "Map N of M" so you know how many are left

Also new since 1.0:
• Unlimited favourites, each with its own photo
• Drop a start or destination by coordinates or Plus Code
