ForWhileDo LiRoHop begins as a simple hop up a tower of clouds, and quietly becomes five different games, back to back, inside a single run. LiRo, a cheerful yellow bun with tiny gloves, bounces, flies, races, aims and puzzles his way through all of them. Clear the last one and the whole journey begins again, faster and repainted.
FIVE LEVELS, ONE RUN
• CLOUD HOP: Bounce up an endless stack of clouds. Jump clouds launch you, rain clouds flip your steering for a moment, wind clouds shove you sideways. Balloons, fog banks, golden clouds, a floating bubble ride and a bird that decides to be your friend all turn up along the way.
• DEEP SPACE: Fly forward through drifting asteroid fields, sweeping squadrons, curving comets, quiet mine fields and rotating debris rings. Black holes pull you in, white holes push you away and fling rocks at you, and a slow Earth flyby is the calm moment in the middle.
• WILD RAPIDS: A top-down flight up a snaking river that is newly generated every single time. Watch the fuel gauge, top up at the pumps, thread the narrows, slip past the bridges and keep the banks off your wings.
• COLOR RAIN: Aim, swap and land colored orbs; three or more of a kind clear together and everything hanging beneath them comes down. Catch the golden orb for an extra life and empty the board before the ceiling reaches you.
• GRAVITY BOX: One rule. Gravity always points down, so you turn the room instead. Walk, spin the room ninety degrees at a time, avoid the spikes and reach the glowing door. Every room is play-tested by a solver before you see it, so every room can be solved.
TILT OR TOUCH
Steer by tilting your device, or choose the on-screen LEVER, a thrust stick plus a fire button, when you arrive in Deep Space. Gravity Box uses an on-screen joystick and two rotate buttons and needs no tilt at all. Portrait, one thumb or two.
A SONG YOU PLAY BY CLIMBING
Every cloud climb picks one of 60 classic public-domain melodies and hands it to you: each bounce plays the next note, so the line you take through the clouds becomes the rhythm. Six instruments (piano, guitar, music box, bell, marimba and organ) are matched to the tune, and the song plays through complete however you climb.
ROUND AFTER ROUND, FOREVER
Finishing Gravity Box does not end the run. It starts the next round. The same five levels return with the pace roughly doubled and a completely new look: every level carries ten distinct themes for its skies, star fields, riverbanks, backdrops and rooms, one per round, and after that they keep arriving in a fresh order. Extra lives are tucked near the end of each level, and every new round hands you more continues.
SCORES
Your best runs are kept on your device, and Game Center supplies the player name shown beside them. When you are online your score can also join the optional world board on the main menu. There is no sign-up and no personal information to hand over, and the whole game plays perfectly with no connection at all.
