Ten minutes in a queue, a stretch of commute, the last few minutes before sleep: that is what a Searchwordie board is sized for. It is a word search where the list gives you clues instead of words: read a clue, work out what the answer must be, then find it in the letters and drag a line through it.
The grid itself stays friendly: nine letters by nine, about fifteen answers, hidden in all eight directions, backwards and diagonally included. Only a straight line from first letter to last registers, so a wrong trace costs nothing and the board never holds a mistake; there is no countdown either. A finished board shows each word under a colored capsule with small arrows for the direction it ran, and since no keyboard is involved it plays comfortably one-handed on a crowded platform.
Then there is the daily challenge, one board per date and the once-a-day habit the game is built around, with a streak that counts the days in a row you have finished it, a Monday-to-Sunday bar for the week, and a running count of boards solved and your quickest time. Join late or miss a few days and the archive scrolls back to 1 July 2026 with nothing locked, so a slow Sunday can turn into a run of dailies. A daily reminder is optional, at the hour you choose.
What separates this from a scan-and-tick list is the thinking before the finding. A clue might tell you only that the answer is a video-sharing website; that is not a word until you decide which one it must be, and only then does the scan begin. The result sits between a relaxing puzzle and a light general-knowledge quiz, and the points favor the obscure answers, so a rare find pays several times what a common one does.
When one board isn't enough, there are the topics. Sixteen themed categories in English: History, Geography, Movies, Music, Food, Technology and more, including a Newspaper pack and a Cryptic pack for wordplay clues. Each is a path of a hundred levels that unlock one at a time; the grid stays the same size, and what rises is what a board is worth. A History board here is not a list of dates to scan for, it is a hundred small things worth knowing.
Help is per answer, not per letter: a hint reveals the whole answer for half that word's points, stated before you commit, and you still trace the word to bank the rest. Most answers also carry a reference card, a short encyclopedia entry with a picture, credited to Wikipedia, masked until you find or hint the word. Page through them after a board, or browse and search the whole collection by topic on the reference screen.
There are a few settings for a small-screen habit, too. Grid first or clues first, light or dark theme, four text sizes up to XXL, and up to five favorite topics pinned to the home screen. A half-finished board waits exactly where you left it, and once a board has been opened it stays fully playable with no connection, so open a few while you still have signal and the whole flight is covered.
