Inkling: Conversation Prep
Better small talk, on demand
Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Walk into any conversation with something better than "how's it going?" Inkling pulls fresh stories tailored to whoever you're seeing.
Inkling is a quiet little app for people who want better conversations.
You add the people you actually talk to: a coworker, your dad, a friend you only see twice a year. Tag what they care about: Yankees, Italian cooking, indie film, their grandkids, anything. Before you see them, tap "Prep" and Inkling generates 3 to 5 short cards: a hook plus three quick bullet points each. Things you could actually bring up.
It pulls from dozens of real news sources you already trust. Stories from today and the last couple weeks, filtered to what matches the person you're seeing.
There's also a "Me" entry pinned at the top of your list. Tap "Brief me" for a daily news rundown tuned to your own interests. Like a personal editor's morning sheet.
WHAT MAKES IT WORK
- Person-by-person tailoring. Inkling doesn't show you everything. It shows you stories matching the people you're about to see.
- Real sources, not summaries of summaries. Every card links back to the original article so you can dig deeper if a topic catches.
- Quick to scan. Hook + three bullets means you can prep on the walk to brunch.
- Quiet feedback. Thumbs up, thumbs down, or "used it" lets the app learn which sources land for which people, without ever asking you to fill out a profile.
- Your data, your control. Sign up with email. Delete your account anytime from Settings.
WHAT IT IS NOT
It's not a feed. It's not a social app. It's not trying to be your homepage. You open it when you're about to see someone, get what you need, and close it.
WHO IT'S FOR
Anyone who has ever:
- Stood in a doorway trying to remember what they last talked about with their uncle
- Wanted to be a better friend without faking it
- Found themselves bored at brunch and wished they'd brought something interesting
- Wanted a news brief that actually matches what they care about, not the algorithm's guess
CONTENT TYPES
You control which kinds of sources Inkling pulls from: News, Books, Film, TV, Music, Longreads, Sports, Tech, Science, Food. Toggle them in Settings.
