The new Now Playing screen shows your current book's cover, chapter, and progress, all tinted to match the cover art, with play/pause, skip, chapter jumps, and one-tap bookmarking. Swipe up for Continue Listening to pick up any in-progress book. Your phone stays the player, and everything's localized in German, Spanish, French, and Japanese. Group your library your way - A new Group by → Library option in the Sort menu splits your shelf into sections by where each book lives, with a section per library for servers that have more than one. Works in both grid and list view. Better self-hosted support - BookOrbit books now play, show chapters, and download reliably even on servers that report metadata in a leaner format. And book descriptions from both Grimmory and BookOrbit now show up properly on the detail page and stick around through library refreshes.

A bedtime grade sleep timer - Shake to reset or extend with the screen locked, a configurable fade out, an auto sleep window for your wind down hours, and an optional Extend or Reset prompt when time runs out. Bring your own audiobook library. Spine now plays from three places - Cloud, an Audiobookshelf server, or a folder on your iPhone, side by side on one shelf. - Audiobookshelf, end to end. Add a server with username + password and your books appear in Spine. Progress and bookmarks sync both ways so you can listen on the web and pick up here. - Local files, from any folder. Point at a folder on your iPhone or in iCloud Drive. Spine handles single-file books, file-per-chapter books, and Author/Book/files nesting. Files renamed in Files keep their bookmarks and progress. - Available Offline and Saved for Later. A new section pulls every downloadable book to the top when you're heading out, and long-press any cover to park it for later, pressing play un-saves it automatically. - The time readout, redesigned. Tap the number next to the scrubber to cycle through chapter remaining, book remaining, percent, and the wall-clock time you'll finish at. Long-press for a picker with a speed-adjust toggle. - Smaller things, in the right places. Library is collapsible and shows item counts. Chapters sheet lands on the current chapter. Search auto-focuses. A deeper accessibility pass across player, library, charts, and widgets. Source badges when more than one library is connected. No subscription. No accounts with us. Smarter metadata lookup that won't hand you the wrong book, AirPods that finally skip the way you'd expect, and playback that still works after you've pulled the API key. - Metadata that won't lie to you. Edit Metadata now checks multiple sources and each candidate is run through a title/author overlap check before it's accepted. If no source has a confident match, Spine says so instead of guessing. The Edit Metadata sheet also merges results, so the cover and narrator details fill in more often on the first try. Filenames in the Title - Author shape are now parsed too. - AirPods skip like the lock screen does. Double-tap and triple-tap on AirPods now perform the same 30-second forward / 15-second back skips as the lock-screen buttons, instead of jumping chapters. - Local playback survives a missing key. Deleting your API key used to block playback even for chapters that were fully downloaded to the device. Downloaded audio now plays without a key, only streaming requires one. - Settings, calmer. The Apple Intelligence section is one row showing availability; tap it to open a sheet with the toggles grouped by purpose (reading & activity vs. bookmarks) and a single privacy footer. - Share any bookmark, or all of them. Every bookmark row's context menu now has Share built in, and the Bookmarks Hub's by-book grouping picks up a "Share all" button that stitches every bookmark from a book into one clean message. - A tidier mini-player. The bottom mini-player capsule now collapses entirely when nothing is loaded (iOS 26.1), instead of sitting empty above the tab bar.

Tap the bookmark button and Spine grabs the last 45 seconds of what you're listening to, transcribes it with Apple's on-device speech model, and asks Apple Intelligence to extract a verbatim quote, a one-sentence summary, and three to five topical tags. No sheets, no decisions, no typing. The bookmark is saved instantly so nothing is ever lost; the quote and summary fill in a few seconds later. * Capture from anywhere. Siri, the Action Button, Shortcuts, and CarPlay all route through the player's bookmark button, so "Hey Siri, bookmark this" works hands-free. The Bookmarks Hub. A new card on the Activity tab opens a hub sheet with every bookmark across every book. Search across quotes, summaries, notes, and tags. Filter by tag with a chip strip. Group by recency, book, or tag. Swipe or long-press to share or delete a single bookmark, or share every bookmark from a book in one tap. * The Weekly Companion. A new card at the top of Discover summarizes the week - hours, busiest day, books finished, time saved at higher speeds and writes a short, warm note about it. Refreshes every Monday; toggleable in Settings. * A listener level that talks back. The level card, the milestone banner, and the tier detail sheet now wear a personalized one-line tagline tied to your tier and hours bucket. "Sapling, settling into the habit" reads different when you cross into "Marathoner, four hundred hours deep." Cached per tier × hours, so the line stays stable until the next bucket. * Privacy unchanged. Every new AI feature such as quote extraction, summaries, tags, weekly digest, listener tagline, voice-note titles run entirely on Apple Intelligence. No transcript, audio, or stats ever leave the phone. Each feature is individually toggleable in Settings.

A clearer download indicator, a finer speed dial, and a delete button that actually deletes. - Tap a cover to cancel a download. Downloading books now show a large, App Store-style progress ring on the cover. Tap it to stop the download — no more digging through the context menu, and you can see exactly how far along each book is at a glance. - Playback speed, your way. The speed pill on the player opens a full slider from 0.5× to 3× in 0.1 increments, with quick chips for 0.75×, 1×, 1.25×, 1.5×, and 2×. Dial in the exact pace you want for any narrator. - "Remove from Library" sticks the first time. Deleting a book used to occasionally make it reappear because the library was serving cached data for a few seconds after the deletion. Spine now asks for a fresh read after every delete (and on pull-to-refresh), so the tile goes away and stays away.
