KinTerm
Chinese kinship & family tree
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Lost in Chinese family kinship? KinTerm works out terms up to 5 levels deep. Family tree, birthdays, almanac, greetings and red envelope log in one. No sign-up, no ads.
Going home for the holidays, a wedding banquet, a family gathering — and you can't remember what to call that relative.
KinTerm starts from you. Tap through Father, Mother, Older Sister, Cousin... and it shows the correct Chinese kinship term right away. It also keeps your family tree, birthdays and anniversaries, a Chinese almanac, greetings and a red envelope log in one place.
■ Free
• Kinship term calculator
Up to five levels of relatives, with the terms commonly used in Taiwan.
Reverse lookup: who is "granduncle's granddaughter"? It works that out too.
Shows the legal degree of kinship (Taiwan Civil Code, Article 968).
• Family tree (up to 5 people)
Add family members and see the relationship chart. Add a profile photo or mark someone as deceased.
• Days
Birthdays, wedding anniversaries and your own occasions together, with the next 30 days at a glance.
• Almanac
Daily guidance, calendar, fortune and festival culture.
• Greetings and red envelopes
Copy a festival greeting in one tap. The red envelope log keeps what you gave and received separately (up to 5 records), with suggested amounts.
• Family term chart
See what to call everyone in your family in one picture, and share it.
■ Premium (one-time purchase, no subscription)
• Unlimited family tree members and red envelope records, plus export as a table
• Kinship terms for 7 regions: Taiwan, Mainland China, Hong Kong, Hokkien, Hakka, Singapore, Malaysia
• 4 greeting tones, with your surname as the signature
• Voice reading of kinship terms (uses your phone's built-in voices; available voices depend on the device)
• Family tree PDF export
• A photo album for each family member
• Almanac extras: years 1900–2100, auspicious day search, monthly focus, baby naming and name matching, seasonal food, temple visits, daily fortune stick, dark theme, larger font, add to calendar
• New Year cheat sheet: pick the relatives you'll see and get what to call them, last year's red envelopes and a greeting on one page; save it as an image or PDF
• Family memoirs: record elders' stories and pair them with old photos from the album
• Generation names: keep your family's generation poem and see each generation's name
• Today's Almanac home screen widget
• Backup and moving to a new phone: backup files and automatic iCloud sync, with your data and photos together
■ Your data
• Your data is stored on your own phone. No sign-up, no account.
• A copy goes to your own iCloud only when you turn on sync or share a backup file yourself.
• No ads.
• Permissions are requested only when needed: photos are chosen through the system photo picker, which hands over only the one you pick; notifications are requested when you turn on a reminder; calendar access when you tap add to calendar; the microphone only when you tap record in Family memoirs, and recordings stay on your phone. No camera, location or contacts.
• The kinship calculator, family tree and almanac all work on the phone, without a network connection.
■ When it helps
• Visiting family for the holidays → check what to call everyone before you walk in
• Wedding gifts → log who came and how much they gave
• Family group chat → pick a greeting and copy it
• Introducing your partner → build the family tree first and explain who is who
• An elder's birthday is coming → see it early in Days
