BetaSuite: Tester's Toolkit
Hardware field testing & proof
$6.99
Testing a robot mower, vacuum or drone? Burn the date and time into every photo and video, mark faults on a timeline and send a clear report. Pay once, no subscription.
Beta-testing a robot lawn mower, robot vacuum, e-bike, drone or 3D printer? BetaSuite: Tester's Toolkit captures photo and video evidence with the date and time burned into every frame, then turns your field notes into a clear PDF or DOCX report.
It's made for people who test physical products, and the companion apps that ship with them. It is not a tool for distributing app betas. Only need a timestamp camera? Use Basic mode: capture only, with no sessions or reports.
CATCH THE MOMENT
• Photos and videos get the date and time burned in, to the second. Add GPS location, weather, season, time zone, device info and your own watermark or logo if you want them.
• Instant Capture keeps a rolling buffer, so you can save the last 15–30 seconds after something happens.
• Dual recording puts your screen and your camera in one video (picture-in-picture), so the companion app and the device are in the same clip, with the date and time burned in.
• Photos and videos you import from your library get the same stamp.
LOG WHAT HAPPENED
• Run each test as a session. Drop a marker the second something goes wrong: it lands on the session timeline, and you can add the detail later.
• Log findings with a severity, the expected and actual result, notes and voice notes.
• Draw on photos and video frames to point straight at the fault, and trim clips before you send them.
• Optional transcription turns voice notes and the speech in your videos into text.
• Export a clip compressed to fit Discord's upload limit in one tap.
TEST PROTOCOLS
Build reusable checklists with pass/fail, rating, NPS, multiple-choice and written-answer steps. A step can ask for a photo or video, captured right in the run. Import steps from a CSV file or pasted text, or with optional AI from a photo or PDF, and share a protocol as a code. Program managers can build one in a web browser at betasuite.app/tools/protocol-builder, with no app or account, and testers import it with the code.
REPORTS READY TO SEND
• PDF and DOCX reports open with an "At a Glance" summary, then list findings by severity, worst first, with your photos included.
• Session ratings add up to a satisfaction score, with a trend across your reports.
• The cover shows the time zone, so readers in other regions know when things happened.
• Optional JSON and CSV evidence files sit alongside the report for spreadsheets or your own tools.
• Send by email or the share sheet.
AI IS OPTIONAL AND OPT-IN
AI summaries, transcription and protocol help stay off until you agree to each feature, and the consent screen names who processes the data. Use on-device Apple Intelligence where your iPhone or iPad supports it, the built-in cloud options, or your own API key.
CONFIDENTIAL MODE FOR NDA UNITS
Testing pre-release hardware under NDA? Confidential Mode blocks cloud AI and cloud uploads, allows only on-device Apple Intelligence, and warns you before you share or export anything.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
• No account and no BetaSuite cloud. Your work stays on your device unless you share it.
• Your project records are encrypted on the device. Photos and videos are saved as normal files in the app's folder and, by default, your camera roll, or a folder you choose.
• No ads and no tracking. Crash reporting stays off unless you turn it on.
• Capturing, logging and building reports work offline. Weather, cloud AI and sending need a connection.
PAY ONCE
One purchase unlocks every feature on iPhone and iPad: no subscription, no ads and no in-app purchases.
GOOD TO KNOW
BetaSuite doesn't detect faults or test the product for you. You capture the moment; BetaSuite stamps it, keeps it in order and builds the report.

more Bug fixes and improvements:
• The video quality setting now applies to all your videos.
• Cleaner PDF and Word reports, with one clear date format.
• Corrected help text and translations in all 28 languages.
1.3.5 Oct 6
• Tester satisfaction tracking: reports now show a satisfaction score based on your session ratings, plus a trend chart showing how it has moved across your recent reports for this project.
• Session wrap-up now asks for a quick 1-5 star rating (Skip is still available) so satisfaction can be calculated.
• Generated PDF reports have a fresh new look: colour-coded severity and category tags, a cleaner cover, and an easier-to-scan "At a Glance" summary.
• Capture screen redesign: the live preview now fills the whole screen, with the header and controls floating on top for a cleaner, more immersive view.
• Dual Record mode buttons resized to fit properly on every current iPhone.
• Fixed: the Generate Report keyboard now dismisses when you tap away, and the Generate button no longer runs off-screen on smaller devices.
• Fixed: AI permission toggles now save correctly every time.
• Session goals are now shown in generated reports.
NEW: Multiple-choice and free-text questions in test protocols
• Build richer test checklists — ask testers to pick from options or write a short answer, not just pass/fail.
NEW: Timezone on your timestamps
• The timestamp burned into your captures can now include your time zone, and every generated report shows it on the cover — so anyone reading your evidence from another region knows exactly when it was recorded. Choose an abbreviation, a UTC offset, or both in Settings.
Sessions
• Reopening a session with an unfinished protocol now picks up right where you left off — no more digging through menus to resume.
• A session with an incomplete protocol is never silently marked complete. Stop now pauses it instead, so you can finish later exactly where you stopped.
• The Sessions screen toolbar is decluttered — Filter and Sort now share one button, and you can rename a session directly from the list.
Instant Capture
• Backgrounding the app briefly (a call, a quick app switch) no longer wipes your rolling buffer — save shortly after returning and it still reaches back before the interruption.
• Safer saves: your footage is no longer cleared until it's confirmed stored, and an interrupted save now recovers automatically instead of being lost.
• The buffer length is now a one-tap option in the Capture menu.
Camera
• Zoom presets are now 0.5×, 1× and 2× — 0.5× switches to your ultra-wide lens where your device has one. Pinch-to-zoom still works throughout.
• Tightened the Camera / Upload / Dual / Instant row so it fits more phones without scrolling.
Fully translated
• Around 50 strings that still appeared in English now show in your language across all 28 languages, and several screens that showed Simplified Chinese to Traditional Chinese readers are corrected.
Privacy
• Crash reporting is now strictly opt-in during setup — nothing is ever sent unless you turn it on.
Uploads
• Upload from Files now accepts more formats — WebP, GIF, BMP and HEIF images, plus 3GP and M4V videos.
• Videos you upload from your photo library read their original recording date more reliably, so the burned-in timestamp matches when you actually shot them.
Polish & fixes
• Fixed message banners that rendered as invisible white text in Light theme.
• Assorted alignment, stability and reliability improvements.
1.3.4 Oct 1
NEW: Basic mode • Meet Basic mode — a simpler, streamlined BetaSuite for testers who just want to capture, log feedback, and go. Choose Basic or Advanced when you set up, and switch anytime in Settings.
Faster & smoother • Photo capture now confirms the moment you tap the shutter — no waiting for the tick. • iPad: a back button is now always available in the full-screen (landscape) video player. • iPad: the dual-recording camera preview now fills the screen in landscape instead of a narrow strip.
Dual recording • More reliable dual recording — the floating camera preview recovers more gracefully when you switch to another app, with added orientation and stability fixes.
More helpful • New "Tips & tricks" guide on the Captures screen — a quick tour of the timestamp overlay, capture modes, and quality settings. • Optional crash reporting so we can fix issues faster. It's off by default — you choose during setup and can change it anytime in Settings.
Polish & fixes • Clearer wording on the empty Captures screen. • Assorted stability and reliability improvements under the hood.
1.3.1 Jul 30
• Gallery uploads now reliably get the timestamp, location, and weather overlay burned in — imported clips carry the same credible stamp as in-app captures.
• Instant Capture is smoother and more reliable: the background buffer keeps rolling as you switch tabs or apps, saves are faster, and every clip keeps its true capture-time timestamp.
• New "New media" badge shows which session a background-saved clip landed in, so nothing gets lost.
• Dual recordings now salvage a partial clip if a recording is interrupted — you won't lose the footage.
• A quick "View" shortcut jumps to a clip right after you save it, plus a heads-up (with Resume) if Instant Capture stops when you background the app.
• Clearer in-app guidance, sharper overlays, and stability and polish across capture, sessions, and reports.
1.3.0 Jul 15
• New Home screen — a dashboard puts capture, recent sessions, tools and reports one tap away.
• Test protocols — describe what you want to test in a step-by-step protocol you can edit and save for future testing and repeatability.
• Simpler navigation — Home, Capture, Sessions, Reports, Settings.
• Tools, easier to find — the charge-port test and test protocols now have a dedicated Tools area of the home page.
• Sessions stay together — captures group into one session instead of scattering; start or resume right from Home.
• Steadier dual recording — the preview no longer freezes when you return mid-recording, and your session stays open while you record another app.
• iPad two-pane Home, plus fixes and polish.
1.2.3 Jun 16
Dual recording is faster and smarter:
• Recordings save almost instantly — the timestamp and overlay details are now added live as you record, instead of processing after you stop.
• The floating camera and on-screen details follow your screen as you rotate, staying upright.
• Your overlay info — location, weather, device and custom text — now appears on dual recordings, alongside a live ticking timestamp.
• Dual recordings save at your chosen video quality.
Plus rotation and reliability improvements throughout.
1.2.1 Jun 9
Guided Image Capture — BetaSuite now builds an AI-tailored, device-aware photo checklist, so you capture every angle of the hardware you're testing the right way.
Reports at a glance — Generated reports now open with an At-a-Glance summary and a table of contents, so whoever reads them can scan the key findings in seconds.
AI you can trust — Report AI now sticks strictly to what's actually in your sessions. Thin or placeholder notes no longer produce invented findings — if there's nothing to report, it says so.
Share a report anywhere — Alongside email, a new Share button sends the finished PDF or DOCX straight to any app: Slack, Drive, Messages and more.
Jump straight to Capture — Add a Capture shortcut to your Home Screen (long-press the app icon) for one tap into the camera from anywhere.
Landscape + smoother media — Camera, preview and overlays now rotate with your device, and you can swipe between images in a report.
Now in 21 languages — plus 100+ refinements and fixes, including a fix for the camera occasionally going black after recording a video.
1.2.0 Jun 6
iPad support
BetaSuite now runs natively on iPad. Landscape side-rail navigation, side-by-side onboarding, multi-column session and project lists, and forms capped at a comfortable reading width on the 12.9" / 13" displays.
Dual recording across apps
The rear camera keeps recording the device under test while you switch to the app you're reviewing — works on iPhone and iPad, in Split View and Stage Manager. Saving is now snappy: the overlay bake runs in the background, so Stop returns you to the session list immediately.
Instant Capture polish
The floating PiP recorder bakes the full overlay (time, GPS, weather, device, logo) into every saved clip and tags it as "Instant" in the session list — matching the in-app recorder. Saves now survive iOS clearing the temp directory under memory pressure.
Discord export
New Discord button on every video and photo. BetaSuite auto-compresses the clip to fit Discord's free-tier 10 MB upload limit before handing it off to the share sheet.
Self-healing sessions
Sessions whose files moved during an app reinstall now repair themselves at launch.
Dual-record preview unstuck
Fixed the inline preview occasionally freezing on a stale frame after returning to the app mid-recording.
Delete saved copies on remove
The Remove action on a session capture can now also delete the saved copies from your Camera Roll, custom Files folder, and the in-app copy.
