Photo Intake: Auto-Sorter
Group Photos by Event & Camera
Only for Mac
$6.99
Mac
Turn messy SD-card dumps and phone backups into a clean photo library. Photo Intake organizes every shoot by date, event, and camera — in seconds.
Photo Intake consolidates photos and videos from all your cameras — DSLRs, mirrorless,
and iPhones — into a single, clean folder tree, ready for your NAS or archive drive.
--- SMART EVENT DETECTION ---
Drop in your SD card dumps and Photo Intake automatically groups your shots into
shooting events based on time gaps and GPS distance. A six-hour pause in shooting?
New event. A 50 km jump between consecutive frames? New event. Every threshold is
configurable — you decide what counts as a new shoot.
--- FULL CONTROL ---
Not happy with how events were detected? Dissolve any auto-detected event into
per-day groups with one click. Or define your own events manually by picking a
date range and a name — perfect for labelling a wedding, a ski trip, or a multi-day
conference after the fact.
--- FLEXIBLE FOLDER STRUCTURES ---
Choose from six built-in templates (Year / Event / Camera, Year / Month / Camera,
Camera / Year / Event, and more) or build your own with the drag-and-drop structure
editor. Combine any levels in any order: Year, Month, Day, Event, Camera, Make,
File Type. See a live folder tree preview update as you configure.
--- RAW & VIDEO AWARE ---
Recognises all major RAW formats: CR2, CR3 (Canon), NEF (Nikon), ARW (Sony), RAF
(Fujifilm), ORF (Olympus), DNG, and many more. Optionally splits RAW and JPEG into
separate subfolders. Videos are handled alongside stills and routed correctly.
--- BEFORE YOU COMMIT ---
Preview the photos inside any event before applying — tap the eye icon on any event
row to browse thumbnails and confirm the grouping looks right. Review the full folder
tree on the right panel to see exactly what will be created.
--- COPY OR MOVE ---
Copy files to keep your originals untouched, or move them to free up space on your
cards. Photo Intake never overwrites existing files.
--- BUILT FOR MULTI-CAMERA PHOTOGRAPHERS ---
Handles duplicate filenames across cameras. Detects all cameras in each shoot.
Shows per-camera file counts and sizes at a glance.
Ratings & Reviews
- This app hasn’t received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview.
NEW
- Per-camera rename rules — flatten cameras that reset their file numbering
every session (looking at you, Leica) into a continuous film-roll counter.
Configure prefix, start number, and digit padding per camera. The counter
is remembered across imports, so your numbering keeps climbing.
IMPROVED
- Photos taken abroad now keep their original capture time. We read the
EXIF timezone offset embedded by modern cameras and phones, so a shoot
in Tokyo doesn't shift dates after you fly home.
- Reverse geocoding (city names on events) now works reliably.
- Folder names stay consistent regardless of your Mac's calendar setting.
- Source folders no longer silently disappear from the list after restart —
unsavable folders are surfaced with a clear warning.
- Renamed events keep their names when you tweak detection settings.
- Cancelling a Move shows exactly what was moved and what's still safe.
- Cleaner relative paths in the apply log.
FIXED
- Crash when an import had very few photos and a high minimum-per-event.
- Memory leak from security-scoped folder access on long sessions.
- Edge cases in collision handling and antimeridian GPS averaging.
