Tabledown is a macOS menu bar app that watches your clipboard and converts spreadsheet tables to Markdown and back. No export flow, no extra window. Just copy with Cmd+C and paste with Cmd+V.
■ How it works
• Copy an Excel or Google Sheets table → paste into Obsidian, GitHub, or any Markdown editor as a «| ... |» Markdown table.
• Copy a Markdown table → paste into Excel as split cells.
• Copy a table, then choose “Convert copied table to XML” (⌘⌃X) → paste into an LLM prompt as LLM-friendly XML that preserves multi-level headers.
■ One copy, every destination
Tabledown augments the clipboard's text slot with Markdown while keeping the original table (HTML) slot intact. So the same copy pastes as Markdown source in Markdown editors, and as a rendered table in rich editors like Word or Excel.
■ Clean merged headers (0.5.0)
Turn on “Auto-fill blank cells” and Tabledown fills the blanks left by merged cells so tables line up: vertical groups fill down, horizontal group headers fill across, while blanks in data values are preserved.
■ No strings attached
• Completely free — no subscriptions, no in-app purchases.
• Zero permissions — never asks for Accessibility or Input Monitoring.
• No account, no network (works offline), no pop-ups, sounds, or notifications.
• The menu bar icon flashes a checkmark when a table is converted.
Stop redrawing a table just to move it into a document. Tables are for pasting, not redrawing.

Auto-fill blank cells now works for Markdown too
• Tables with merged headers used to leave blanks when pasted as Markdown. Now those blanks are filled so the table lines up.
- Vertically merged groups (e.g. “Manager”) fill down; horizontally merged group headers (e.g. “Q1”) fill across.
- Blanks in data (value) cells are preserved.
• A single “Auto-fill blank cells” setting now controls both XML and Markdown conversion. (Off by default — turn it on to apply.)
