You can now choose where Trace keeps your recordings, the recording pill stops taking your keyboard while you are typing in another app and there is a new setting to stop Trace copying finished summaries to your clipboard.

Sometimes something gets said in a meeting that should not have been recorded. You can now take it back without losing the recording: press ⌘⇧E and Trace silences the last ten seconds, in the audio and in the transcript. Press again inside the countdown to reach further back, or cancel it on the pill. Once the countdown ends the audio is gone for good. How far each press reaches, and the shortcut itself, are both in Settings. This release also fixes the Speakers panel, where choosing someone Trace already knew would quietly do nothing if the row already showed their name.

The recording pill no longer has to stay at the bottom of your screen. You can now drag it anywhere you want and dashed guides show where it normally sits, snapping back if you drop it close to them. Trace remembers the spot for each display, and there is a Reset in Settings if you want it back in the middle.

Trace now speaks your language. The live recap follows meetings in 40 languages and, on macOS 15 and later, can translate them into your native language, live during the call or after it finishes, entirely on your Mac. A Translate button on finished sessions saves a translated copy alongside the original, and summaries and answers reference the translation. This update also brings the improved live recap (a more capable speech model, scroll-back, text selection), the option to hide a transcription in progress while it finishes in the background, correct browser names in the audio source picker, and much more reliable microphone capture with Bluetooth headsets like AirPods.

A small maintenance update. The recording pill no longer offers a pause while it is still getting the speech model ready for your Mac, and a short meeting name no longer leaves a stretched gap in the pill's title. Plus some smaller fixes and polish.

Trace 2.9 adds Screenshots. While recording, press ⌘⇧S to grab a region of your screen and attach it to the transcript, with a title and summary written on-device. The recorder pill is redesigned with a livelier, frequency-driven waveform, naming speakers is smoother, and you can now pull a transcript of the meeting so far without stopping the recording. Plus reliability fixes for quiet-meeting transcription and speaker models.

You can now run Trace's AI features through your own server. Point summaries, naming, tags and Ask at any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, like LM Studio or Ollama on your Mac, while live transcription stays on-device. Transcriptions can be paused and resumed, summaries come out in the meeting's language, and in-person recordings are separated into speakers. You can also select and copy individual summary sections, and Cmd-Q now checks before quitting. Plus smaller fixes and polish throughout.

Trace 2.7 is our biggest update so far. Trace can now offer to record when an app starts using your microphone, remove echo from recordings made without headphones, and answer questions about a finished meeting. You can organise recordings with tags, search everything with a command palette, and export transcripts as PDF, Word, HTML, or subtitles, save them to a folder of your choice, or send them to Obsidian, Bear, Drafts, or Things. A new Offline mode stops Trace making any network request it would start on its own. Plus custom summary templates, Spotlight search of finished recordings, a reorganised Settings window, and dozens of smaller fixes.

This update fixes a bug where Trace could keep using CPU in the background while the recording pill was hidden.

Trace 2.6 brings four upgrades. Import existing recordings. Drag in an audio or video file you already have and Trace transcribes it on-device, just like one of its own recordings. Record just the meeting. Trace can now capture the audio from your meeting app on its own, so music or a video in another tab stays out of the transcript. A nudge when the meeting ends. When your meeting app releases the mic, Trace asks whether to stop. Name a recording as it starts. A name field opens on the pill when recording begins. Plus a round of fixes and stability improvements.

The model picker in Settings now offers Fast, Balanced, and Accurate, each one showing its accuracy, speed, supported languages, and download size, so you can match it to your Mac. You can also switch off automatic copying so a finished recording leaves your clipboard alone until you copy it yourself. Plus a refreshed Appearance picker and a handful of fixes.

Trace now has an Appearance setting, so you can match your Mac or pin it to light or dark. The What's New window keeps every past update too, not just the latest, so you can look back over what each version added. Plus a handful of fixes, including a crash that could happen during summarising and the summary no longer inventing tags.

Trace 2.1 sharpens the summaries it writes on your Mac. Turning on Trace's on-device AI is now a clear choice you make, with the option of disabling all AI summary features completely. Summaries now run on a more capable on-device model that takes in the whole meeting in one pass, with a cleaner default layout (everything still happens on your Mac). Your recordings are safer too. If Trace ever quits or freezes in the middle of a meeting, the audio is saved as you go and comes back ready to transcribe the next time you open the app. There's also a new Open Trace item at the top of the menu for getting to your recordings in one click, plus a fix for a crash when AirPods came out mid-recording on a muted Mac.

Trace 2.0 gives your meetings a proper home. A new window gathers every recording in one place, where you can play a session back with the transcript highlighting along, fix who said what right in the transcript, and search across everything you've recorded. Naming speakers is faster too, with suggestions from voices Trace already knows. This release also fixes a crash when Bluetooth audio connects mid-recording, and smooths over a handful of smaller rough edges.

Trace picks up a handful of new features in this release! You can now summarise a recording on-device, name speakers (and have Trace remember speakers between meetings!), drive Trace from the command line, start your next recording without waiting on the last one, disable system shortcuts completely and more! What's new: - Summaries on your Mac. Turn any finished recording into a clean summary with the key points pulled out, using Apple's built-in on-device model. Run summaries by hand on a session, automatically after each recording, or from Shortcuts and App Intents. - A new People page. Review, rename, and clean up the voices Trace has learned, and tidy up who said what after a call. Name a voice once and Trace recognises that person in your future meetings, so you stop relabelling the same people. - Command-line control. A new tracecli tool and a trace:// scheme let your terminal or scripts start, stop, and flag recordings and look up past transcripts and summaries. - Run your own script when a recording finishes. Hand each finished transcript straight into a workflow you choose. - Teach Trace tricky words. Add names or jargon to a word-replacement list and Trace fixes them automatically in every future transcript. - Parallel sessions. Start a new recording right away while the previous one is still transcribing, so you never miss the top of a meeting. - A new What's New screen. A quick recap of the headline features after each update, reopenable any time from the Help menu. - Disable shortcuts. You can now completely remove keyboard shortcuts if you'd prefer to drive Trace with the menu bar or CLI. - Delete recordings later. Audio recordings now have a configurable retention window before auto-deleting - Polish and fixes. Dark-mode improvements across onboarding and the What's New window, plus a pile of smaller fixes.

This update fixes an important problem where Trace could stop other apps from using your microphone. While Trace was set up to record, calls in apps like Teams, Zoom, and Meet could find the microphone unavailable. That no longer happens, so your other apps keep working normally while Trace is running. The release also adds a live input level meter in Preferences so you can check your mic before recording, shows system audio at its real point in the transcript when it starts partway through a recording, keeps the pill's waveform visible for quiet mics, and stops a very loud mic from turning into garbled text.

Trace now has noise cancellation built in for times when you are recording a call without headphones, meaning you don't see the transcription twice. It is on by default and you can turn it off in Preferences. We also fixed an error that could stop the Accurate transcription engine from preparing its model on some Macs and renamed recordings keep their name more reliably.

You can now mute just your microphone mid-recording without stopping the session. Press ⌘⇧M, or use the new mute button in the pill, the menu bar, and Preferences. System audio keeps recording while your mic is muted, so you can step away or take a side conversation off the record and pick right back up.

Trace can now read your Mac calendar. Choose "Mac Calendar" in Preferences and Trace names each recording after the meeting you're in, and reminds you a minute before the next one starts. It works with every account you already have in the Calendar app, including iCloud, Google and Exchange, and everything stays on your Mac. Google Calendar is still supported if you prefer to connect that directly.
