New: scan parole conditions or court orders and have them explained in plain language — read privately, right on your device.
Community-funded. Independently free.
After Incarceration is built by and for people impacted by incarceration — those inside, those coming home, and the families, friends, and advocates who stand with them.
WHAT YOU CAN DO HERE
• SCAN A DOCUMENT. Point your camera at parole conditions, a court order, or any legal paperwork. It's read privately on your phone — the image never leaves your device — and The Jailhouse Lawyer explains what it says in plain language.
• TURN PAPER INTO A RESUME. Upload a photo of a program certificate or a prison work assignment. The Resume Builder translates it into real experience, in language employers recognize.
• FIND WHAT YOU NEED. The Eddie Ellis Memorial Library holds vetted resources for the road home — housing, work, health, education, your rights — checked and kept current by people who have made this journey.
• ASK ANYTHING. Guides answer your questions in plain language, day or night, and search the web when the answer isn't on the shelf.
• REQUEST RESEARCH FOR SOMEONE INSIDE. Families and friends can ask us to look something up. We print the answer and mail it in.
• CREATIVITY CANNOT BE CONTAINED. A growing collection of albums, films, books, and art made by currently and formerly incarcerated people — starting with The Musicambia Songbook, 18 original compositions written inside.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
The most sensitive paperwork a person owns stays in their hands. Document scanning happens on your device. No ads, no data sold, ever. Delete your account and your data goes with it.
A MILLION BELIEVERS
Everything above is free. No paywall stands between a person coming home and the information they need. The app is funded by members — believers — at $2.97 per quarter, priced for someone leaving prison with gate money. You can also give a membership to someone else. When a million people believe this community deserves its own institutions, we will have built them together.
After Incarceration is run by formerly incarcerated people from a storefront Creative Communication Center in New York. This app is one room of a bigger house. Come in.
