Film Reality

FilmReality is a diary for films, TV, and soundtracks.
Open the app, mark what you watched, rate it if you have a strong opinion, write a few sentences if you feel like it. Then close the app and get on with your day.
If you used to keep a notebook of movies you'd seen, this is that, but it remembers everything and lets your friends see it.
What's in it
Every film and TV episode you mark as watched goes into a personal timeline with the date, your rating, and your review if you wrote one. Soundtracks get the same treatment. Albums, composers, scores.
You can follow friends and watch their diaries fill up as they go. Watched With lets you and another person log the same screening at the same time, so the film shows up in both of your diaries linked together.
Lists are for grouping things. Your top tens, comfort rewatches, films from one director. Public if you want, private if you don't. The watchlist is for things you keep meaning to get to.
At the end of the year you get stats. What you watched, who you watched the most of, the kind of films you actually go for versus the kind you tell people you go for.
There's also a journal for thoughts a star rating can't hold.
Premium
The app is free. Premium adds unlimited lists, deeper stats, and early access to features we're still building. Monthly or yearly. Cancel any time from your Apple ID subscription settings.

more I’ve been using this app for a little bit and it works really well! There are some features that I love and haven’t really seen in other apps, like association between films and certain colors. Overall works well. The soundtrack feature is cool to find whatever song is stuck in your head from a film!

Where to Watch Film and TV show detail pages now show streaming providers with direct links to watch. Tap any service to go straight to the content.
Collection sharing Sharing a collection now links directly to that collection, not the homepage.
Faster deep links Opening a link to a film, show, or collection from Instagram or another app now takes you straight there with no flicker.
Bug fixes and performance improvements.

Tap Share on any collection to generate a 1080×1920 story card with the collection cover, title, description, and a grid of film posters or album art
Two layouts: Cinematic (blurred cover background) and Portrait (solid color background with cover centered at top)
Pick any background/tint color with a full color picker
Soundtrack collections show a 3×3 grid of square album artwork
Share directly to Instagram Stories, post to X, or copy the link
3D Poster Tilt
Film, TV, and collection cover images now have a Spotify-style 3D tilt effect — drag your finger across a poster to make it shift in perspective
Translate Reviews
Film, TV, and soundtrack review pages now have a Translate button for reviews written in other languages
Other improvements
Likes tab now sorted by most recently liked
ZIP code field moved to the Profile section in Settings

1.1.46 2d ago
New Features
3D poster tilt effect — touch and drag on any poster/cover lightbox to tilt it in 3D (films, TV shows, collections, stills, visual media)
Translate button — reviews on film, TV, and soundtrack detail pages can now be translated, with smart multi-language detection
ZIP code in Settings — ZIP code field moved to the Profile section
Likes tab sorted by most recent — liked items now show newest first
Bug Fixes

PosterTilt glare no longer shows when idle (no more white glow in the center)
Avatar bleed on calendar views when viewing other users' profiles
CMS God Mode saves were always 401ing
Onboarding tours were replaying on every new tab for premium users
Directors/Actors pages showed a spinner on every open even with cached data
Like/comment button styling fixes on popular review pages
Quality score circle appeared reddish in noir theme
Review translation was skipping mixed-language lines

For You Feed — completely reworked
Feed now shows a true mix of users instead of being dominated by one person. Content is interleaved round-robin across authors so no single user fills the whole feed.
"You're All Caught Up" banner now appears immediately when you first reach the end, without older posts pre-loading beneath it.
Scrolling past the banner shows a shuffled replay of posts you already saw in that session — not new API content.
1.1.44 Aug 19
What's New
Release calendars now have a month/year picker — tap the month name to jump to any date
All Soundtracks loads with a smooth skeleton animation instead of a blank screen
Push notifications are less frequent and more varied
Various feed and performance improvements
1.1.43 Aug 18
Scroll restoration on back button — mouse/browser back button now returns to the exact scroll position in the For You feed
Visitor journals — fixed infinite loading on profiles with no journal data; loading text corrected; cover now shows first when tapping someone's journal, then opens to their first page with actual content
Guest join banner — logged-out users on web see a join prompt after 15 posts in the For You feed; tapping opens the login/register modal
1.1.42 Aug 15
Fixed visual settings (Black Noir, Film Grain, Your Palette, Journal theme) not persisting when opening a new tab — settings now restore from your account automatically
Fixed visual settings not clearing when you log out
Fixed the 35mm Grain toggle not saving and restoring correctly
Fixed HTML entities like appearing as literal text in reviews
1.141 Aug 14
Bug fixes and performance improvements.
• New guided walkthrough for first-time users
• Feature tip cards to help you discover hidden features
• Fixed episode ratings button on TV show reviews
• Stability improvements
1.1.40 Aug 14
Hover over any poster to see the film title, year, and role ("Plays [character]" for actors, "Director"/"Screenplay" etc. for crew)
"Recent First" toggle button to sort filmography newest → oldest
Filters out irrelevant "Special Thanks" TMDB credits (e.g. Scott Pilgrim no longer appearing in Tarantino's filmography)
New sort modes: Film Popularity (based on FR community), Average FR Rating, Related to Films You Liked
Fixed sort modes breaking when combined with filters
1.1.39 Aug 10
Auto-hide header on scroll — on iOS the header now slides up and fades out when scrolling down, and reappears after ~60px of deliberate upward scroll. Stays visible when navigating to a new page and hides again only when you intentionally scroll down.
Home button double-tap — first tap scrolls to top of the feed; second tap (when already at top) refreshes the feed with new content.
Header properly clears all section pages — the Films, Soundtracks, TV Shows, and other section sub-navs ("ALL FILMS", "ALL SOUNDTRACKS", etc.) now correctly appear below the header instead of being hidden behind it on iOS.
Timestamp consistency fix — the "X hours ago" display in the For You feed now matches the times shown on profile/activity pages (both now correctly treat Azure's UTC timestamps as UTC).
1.1.38 Aug 10
Fixed episode reviews tab stuck in permanent loading skeleton (race condition in the dedup ref)
Fixed localStorage quota overflow errors from corrupted movie title keys
Fixed GET /api/UserReviews/?pageSize=200 → 400 error when review owner ID was empty
Added spoiler veil to soundtrack community reviews page (was showing SPOILER badge but text was still visible)
1.1.37 Aug 7
Review images and GIFs now show on liked film, TV show, and soundtrack review cards
Reply cards now show images/GIFs from the original comment
Real profile pictures show throughout (reply cards, quote boxes, reviewer screens)
Fixed cross-contamination bug where your own review's images appeared on someone else's liked review of the same film
Image-only comments (no text) now appear correctly
Tapping a liked reply now scrolls to and highlights the exact comment
1.1.36 Aug 6
Feed no longer shows the same review (e.g. Spider-Man) every time you kill and reopen the app — seen IDs now persist correctly across app restarts
Seen IDs window works properly so a review you just scrolled past can't cycle back immediately
Your own collections are now excluded from the For You feed
Collections tab reshuffles every time you switch to it, so you see a different collection first each time
Collections are now pulled from the full pool (55+) instead of just the first 20
Filter tabs (Films, TV, etc.) all use the same discovery logic as the main feed
1.1.35 Aug 6
Other Reviews tab — now shows reviews you've actually liked, with infinite scroll
Streaming service filter fix — the "Where to Watch" filter now returns correct results
Collections fix — films no longer disappear from collections after navigating away
Community Stats — now shows real counts from the database
1.1.34 Aug 4
Pull-to-refresh on review pages — pull down on any film, TV show, or soundtrack review to refresh the like count and comments in real time. Smooth rubber-band animation with a gold spinner.
Upgraded backend to .NET 10 — API now runs on .NET 10 (was .NET 8, which reaches end-of-life in November 2026). Faster startup, longer support.
Fixed Letterboxd import — was creating ghost entries using the review text as the film title; now imports correctly.
1-hour cache on Films / TV / Soundtracks / Palette tabs — tabs load instantly on revisit instead of re-fetching every time.
1.1.33 Aug 3
Similar Films/TV/Soundtracks deduplication — Each detail page now tracks visited IDs in sessionStorage. Clicking through similar content will never show you something you've already visited this session, giving you fresh discoveries every click.
1.1.32 Aug 1
Bug fix: Liking another user's review (film, TV show, soundtrack) now persists correctly. Previously, tapping the heart would briefly show 1 like then revert to 0 — the like was being sent to the wrong review row in the database.
1.1.31 Aug 1
Collections fixed — Films, TV shows, episodes, and media now save reliably to the backend and stay visible to other users and across devices. Previously they could disappear after reopening. Soundtracks were unaffected.
Private accounts — Private profiles now hide their favorite films/shows/soundtracks from users who haven't been accepted as followers. Once accepted, the lock icon next to their name opens and their content becomes visible.
Bug fix — Crash fix for a soundtrack ID type error that could occur in certain edge cases.
1.1.30 Jul 31
Collections showing in For You — own collections were being filtered out; now they appear correctly
Like count loads faster on review pages — cached from last server response so it shows instantly on revisit
Interactive swipe-back gesture — page follows your finger when swiping back on iOS
Image/GIF-only comments — can post a comment with just a GIF or image, no text required
GIF animations restart after closing a lightbox (were staying frozen before)
Reset password fix — removed plain-text token link from email, added live password match indicator
Cross-account data leak fix — data from a previous logged-in account no longer bleeds through on new login
Performance — eliminated repeated user profile fetches, cached common API calls
1.1.29 Jul 30
Here's what's new in 1.1.28:
Performance
Eliminated repeated user profile fetches — tagging users now loads once per session instead of on every page
Faster app startup with cached user list
Bug Fixes
GIF animations restart properly after closing a lightbox (was freezing after first view)
Watch history sheet is now fully scrollable when you have many entries
Watch history dates no longer shift to the wrong day for users in non-UTC timezones
Watch history now shows images and renders markdown correctly
1.1.28 Jul 29
What's New in 1.1.27
Comments redesigned — flat TikTok-style comments across films, TV shows, and soundtracks with a cleaner compose box
GIF & image support in comments — attach GIFs or photos to comments and replies (premium members can upload their own photos)
@mention replies — tap a reply and it auto-fills the @username; mentions appear in blue and are tappable
Tap a notification → jump to the exact comment — inbox notifications for comments and replies now scroll directly to that comment
Color palette improvements — switching color swatches on a film or show no longer reloads every time; results are cached so they stay instant
Color Palette page — palette selection is preserved when navigating away and back; film picks are now curated to match each palette's genre and visual mood
Watch date fix — watch dates were being recorded as the next day due to a timezone bug; fixed
1.1.27 Jul 28
Collection Drafts
Auto-save drafts while building a collection — if you back out, your work is preserved
Full-screen drafts view with back nav and trash delete
Collection type label shown on draft cards (Films, TV Shows, Episodes, etc.)
UI / Navigation
Removed page slide animation on web/desktop (≥640px) — feels snappier
Fixed published collection re-appearing in drafts after posting
Removed helper description texts from collection modal to reduce clutter
1.1.26 Jul 26
UI Polish
Community rating now shows a diamond instead of a star, with proper spacing
Blue links on film and TV show detail pages (All →, See all, Write a review, View Full Cast & Crew →) changed to white/cream to match the app's style
Fixed collection card text overlap on mobile profile page
1.1.25 Jul 23
Performance / stability:
Fixed iOS network congestion — batched and deduplicated dozens of redundant requests that were flooding the connection on every open, making the app feel slow
Collections tab now loads without a full-page loading gate — content renders immediately
Lazy-loaded review comments — only fetches them when you expand, not on mount
Batched soundtrack like counts — one request instead of N individual ones
Collections:
Fixed community/explore tab not showing other users' public collections (was silently returning empty due to missing DB columns)
Collections list responses no longer load the full items payload — much lighter queries
Other:
User search results ranked by relevance (username prefix match > contains > name)
Profile hover/touch in search prefetches the profile card
Pull-to-refresh fixed (was showing stale content)
Rating ruler drag no longer accidentally closes the soundtrack modal
1.1.24 Jul 20
Where to Watch — International Theaters
Country picker now always visible (not hidden when a film is in theaters)
Theater chains for 50+ countries (France, Germany, Brazil, Japan, Australia, Mexico, Russia, Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa, and more)
Falls back to a Google showtimes search for any unsupported locale
Your selected country is remembered across sessions
Profile location (e.g. "Paris, France") is now automatically detected as your default country — previously a stale US setting could override it
