Protect important drives from accidental ejects. Noject runs quietly in your menu bar and blocks unmounts until you choose to allow them.
Noject is a lightweight macOS menubar utility that prevents accidental ejection of mounted drives on macOS, useful for users with permanently-attached external drives on Mac mini, Mac Studio, or tiny external SSDs on macbooks.
Mark any volume as protected and Noject blocks eject and unmount attempts from Finder, Disk Utility, Terminal and third-party apps. A background agent keeps protection active even when the app is closed, automatically restoring safeguards across reboots, sleep, and reconnects.
Designed for backup drives, media libraries, direct connected storage, and always-plugged SSDs. Noject quietly ensures the drives you depend on stay mounted and available.
Features:
• One-click protection: Toggle protection per volume from the menu bar. Noject remembers your choice, even after the drive is unplugged and reconnected.
• Block accidental eject and unmount attempts: When Finder (or any app) tries to eject a protected drive, Noject blocks it and notifies you (notifications work only when app is runnning, blocking works in all cases). Your drive stays mounted.
• Network share reconnection: When a supported network share (such as smb, afp, ftp, ftps) is disconnected or unmounted Noject attempts to reconnect protected network shares.
• Protection stays active across reboots and sleep, launches at login
• Lightweight always-on background agent to protect even when the app is closed
• Quick actions from the menubar, including Reveal in Finder and bypass to Eject Once
• Native, lightweight, private, secure and sandboxed: Built with SwiftUI for macOS. No network access or telemetry. No drive access or reads.
• Supported localisation: English, Chinese (simplified), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Romanian, Spanish and Swedish
How it works: Noject installs a small background helper (via Apple's standard SMAppService) that monitors disk arbitration events. When something tries to eject a protected volume, the helper denies the request and posts a notification so you know what happened.
Limitations: Noject blocks accidental eject requests from Finder and other apps. It cannot prevent forced unmount (e.g., diskutil with force flags) or physical disconnection. It's a guardrail against everyday mistakes, not a security boundary.
Requirements:
• macOS 14 Sonoma or later
• Permission to install a Login Item (the background helper)
• Notification permission (recommended) to see when a block occurs

• Network share reconnection: You can now protect mounted network shares (SMB / Samba, AFP, and FTP / FTPS), not just local and external drives. For protected network shares, when one disconnects, Noject asks Finder to remount the share by URL.
• Two new languages: Added Svenska (Swedish) and Română (Romanian), bringing Noject to 11 fully localised languages.
