A private Mac text workbench with readability analytics, snippets, exports, and new handoff-ready Dispatch Packets.
Outpost Desk is a private Mac text workbench for turning rough material into usable structure. Paste notes, attach documents, choose a local mode, and produce summaries, action lists, rewrites, decision maps, code notes, and handoff-ready dispatch packets.
Use it when you have a messy pile of source text and need to leave with something useful:
- Summarize long notes into a compact brief.
- Pull out action items, open questions, dates, and handoff risks.
- Check readability, grade level, clarity, repeated terms, passive phrasing, and wordy language.
- Save reusable snippets for meeting notes, status reports, decisions, reviews, and planning prompts.
- Export conversations as Markdown or CSV.
- Build a Dispatch Packet that gives the current workspace a readiness score, source-health note, summary, actions, questions, risks, dates, and next steps.
Outpost Desk runs locally on your Mac. It does not require an account, cloud workspace, analytics SDK, advertising SDK, camera, microphone, contacts, calendar, or location access. File access is limited to documents you explicitly open through the macOS file picker.

# Outpost Desk 2.1 - What's New
## Dispatch Packet (Cmd+Shift+D)
Create a project-manager style handoff report from the active workspace. Dispatch Packet extracts summary lines, action items, open questions, dates, risks, and next steps, then scores handoff readiness from 0 to 100 using the same local text analytics and clarity engines used elsewhere in Outpost Desk. The packet can be copied as Markdown for project notes, status updates, or handoff documents.
## Text Analytics Panel
See live statistics for any text you're working on: word count, sentence count, paragraph count, syllable count, estimated reading time (at the 238 words-per-minute median adult rate), Flesch Reading Ease score with labelled difficulty band (Very Easy → Very Confusing), Flesch–Kincaid Grade Level, and a top-10 keyword frequency list. Toggle the panel from the toolbar word-count badge.
## Snippet Library (Cmd+Shift+S)
A persistent library of reusable text snippets stored on your Mac. Ships with eight curated starters — meeting recap header, weekly status template, decision brief, code review prompt, and more. Create your own snippets, tag them by type, search by title, tag, or body text, and insert any snippet into the chat input in one click.
## CSV Export (Tools menu · Cmd+Option+E)
Export any conversation to a CSV file via the macOS save dialog. Columns: index, role, ISO 8601 timestamp, word count, and content. Fields with commas, quotes, or newlines are RFC 4180-escaped so the file opens cleanly in Numbers, Excel, or any spreadsheet app. Also available from the sidebar right-click menu.
## macOS Settings Window (Cmd+,)
Set your default mode and export preferences in a proper macOS Settings scene. A new Tools menu in the menu bar puts Export Markdown, Export CSV, and Snippet Library one keystroke away.
## Sidebar Context Menu
Right-click any conversation to export it as Markdown or CSV, or delete it, without switching to that conversation first.
## Copy Message
Right-click any message bubble to copy its text to the clipboard.
## Reliability Pass
Outpost Desk 2.1 includes focused Dispatch Packet tests plus the full existing local text-engine suite. Validation on June 27, 2026 passed 168 tests with 0 failures.
