• Checking off a repeating to-do now hides it until its next day. On the widget, a checked item stays a few seconds before it goes, so you can tap it back. • Overdue to-dos can be moved to today. When you add a to-do, picking a time or date no longer makes the keyboard drop and pop back up. • Open a photo full size in the picker to crop it right there. When editing an entry, you can also take a new photo. • The notebook's buttons now stay above and below the book. No need to tap the page to bring them up. • The little friends no longer stop the music you're listening to. • New in Me: Storage. See how much space Trace takes on this device and which entries take the most. • Tapped Ended late for your period? Change it to the day it actually ended. • Goals set for certain days of the week no longer show up as due on the other days, on Today or on widgets.

• On Today's letter board, tap Draw a full stop: what you wrote today flies into an envelope, you circle the flap, and a little friend stamps it and takes it to the Mailbox. • Write to the future: write a letter to your future self, pick a date and seal it. It opens on that day. • Fifteen 3D little friends now live on every page and play with what's there. Pick a different one for any spot. • Notebooks were rewritten: short notes go right on the paper, and each notebook has one date stamp and one set of stationery. They open full screen, and you can double-tap or pinch to look closer. • Export PDF is now Make a Book, with twelve templates to choose from. • Crop and rotate photos in notebooks, or tap or trace around something to cut it out. Photos in entries can be cropped too. • The app lock can be set to accept only your own PIN. Also fixed: blurry photos in notebooks, and a crash when making a book from a title with emoji.

• Notebooks are now books you can hold and flip. Decorate any page with stickers, tape, words and pens, or tap Auto-flip and watch it turn on its own. • Track your period right on Today: tap Started, then Ended. • Photos in an entry line up in a neat grid, so you see every one. • Journal PDFs are redone as The Daily Trace: every day you wrote becomes an issue, with your first line as the headline. • Tap a widget to check in on the spot. • Goals can have a start and an end date. Also fixed: tapping the date at the top while writing closed the whole page, and the Journal calendar flashed last month's photos when you changed months.

• With Pro, each entry can hold up to 30 photos, videos, recordings and drawings, up from 9. Today and Journal show the first 9. Open the entry to see them all. • Choose how big each photo is in a notebook. Turn to the page, tap Layout and pick Large, Medium or Small for each photo. If a paragraph and its photo end up on different pages, make the photo one size smaller and they'll stay together. • Notebooks can keep a birthday or a start day. Each entry then shows how old they were that day or which day it was, and marks 1 month, 100 days and birthdays. • Each notebook can have its own layout: page breaks, text size and line spacing. • To-dos can have photos. Open a to-do and tap Add photos. • In People, anyone with a birthday saved shows how many days are left until it. • Tap a tag like #travel to see every entry with that tag. • When you sort the Inbox, tap Done on anything you've already finished. We also fixed long screenshots in notebooks showing only the middle, and the page jumping after adding photos. On entry, to-do, goal and person pages, less-used buttons are now in the ··· menu at the top right.

• Notebooks can have a song. On a notebook's page, tap Music and import a song from Files. It plays when you open the notebook, and flip-through videos use it too. You can also share audio files to Trace from AirDrop, Messages or a cloud drive. • Journal now shows how many characters you wrote each day, and each notebook shows its total. • Hide what you don't need on Today. At the bottom of Today, open Arrange the Today page and tap the eye next to a section. Tap it again to bring the section back. • Dictation no longer writes the same sentence down two or three times, and names from People come out right more often. • Find and replace: while writing, tap Replace under More, or select some text and tap Find and Replace. When you edit an entry, Mark is now in the top bar too. • If you swipe away while editing an entry, your changes are kept. Open it again and tap Continue Editing. Closing a new entry with × now asks if you want to keep it as a draft. • App Lock can have a 6-digit backup PIN for times when Face ID doesn't show up. Trace also opens right away once Face ID succeeds. We also fixed photos added on another device taking a long time to appear after syncing, widgets showing a goal like “6 glasses of water” as done too early, Mark selecting the whole entry right after writing, going back from an entry in a notebook not returning to the same page, and the app icon sometimes not changing automatically on iOS 18. Widgets now show goals like this as “3/6”, and each tap on the Home Screen adds one glass. You can also swipe to delete entries in a person's contact log.

• Mark the words that matter. Select a few words, choose Mark from the menu, then underline, circle or highlight them, with separate colors for the line and the text. Your marks stay put in notebooks, letters, share cards and PDFs. • Pick the last line of your daily letter from 19 closings, or write your own and keep it in My words for next time. Paragraphs in the letter now start with an indent. • Every icon in the app has been redrawn with the same pen. Switches are now a groove pressed into the paper, and they fill with ink when you turn them on. • In the photo picker, tap All at the top to show only videos, selfies, screenshots or Live Photos. Big libraries load as you scroll instead of making you wait. • When a goal day can't be checked in, Trace tells you why and what you can do. • At the evening wrap-up, unfinished to-dos can go to No date, or stay where they are with Leave as is. Moving things to tomorrow no longer drags in to-dos you'd planned for later. We also fixed a crash when switching To-dos to the month calendar, and one when typing a time before a date in a new to-do.

A place for favorite days, and something to look forward to. • Pin journal entries you want to find again. Pins carry over through iCloud sync and backups. • Earn stars from entries, tasks and goals. Set your own rewards and watch each wish lantern brighten. Save enough, then press and hold to let it fly. • Your places now form a little globe. Turn it, choose a place and leaf through its entries and photos by day. • Goals have monthly and yearly history, tags and easier time-off controls. • Record what you did, even if it never made it onto your to-do list. • Choose separate light and dark themes, and switch wish sound effects off when you want quiet. We also fixed place-search results that couldn't be tapped with some third-party keyboards, and a photo strip that jumped and flickered in the editor. When you make a wish, adding a photo now comes first and the keyboard no longer pops up right away. New users can now unwrap their three-day Pro gift during setup.

This version opens up on iPad, and the Home Screen gets a new look. IPAD • Trace now runs on iPad. Every page was laid out again for the larger screen: when the window is wide enough it splits into two columns, so you pick on the left and read on the right. The journal shelf shows two columns of large covers, and the photo wall fits four across. Portrait, landscape and Split View all work. • Held upright, a notebook's paper fills the screen. Turned sideways, it lies open as a left and a right page, one spread at a time. Sealed letters, their envelopes and the sealing box scale up whole. WIDGETS • All eight Home Screen widgets were rebuilt, with Today, Bookshelf and Mailbox new. Every widget comes in small, medium, large and extra large, and on iOS 27 the full-page extra large widget fits on iPhone too. Pick the background in the app: Night, Paper, or a photo of yours. • Live Activities and the Dynamic Island got the same look, and you can tick off goals and tasks right from the expanded Dynamic Island. ALSO • Frame a photo as you pick it for a notebook cover, page background, sticker or tape. Cut-outs keep their transparency. • Stickers and tape can go on just one page and stay with that page's entry. • When sync fails, the sync page says what went wrong and what to do. On a new phone, tap Use This Device Instead in System sync and the new phone takes over Reminders and Calendar. • The Me page is tidier, with themes, fonts and icons on the first screen. Tap a goal's number to type it. • Fewer pop-up messages for actions you can already see, and entries with only photos or audio no longer get a placeholder line on the Today page. Also fixed: the photo picker spinning forever with a very large library, and Days together starting over on a new phone.

Older days are easier to revisit, and what you save is safer. LOOKING BACK • Each entry fills the screen, and a swipe up brings the next one. Monthly and yearly reviews now open the entries from that stretch of time. • New footprint map: the places you have written about form a poster of place names, and the more you write about a place, the larger its name. Shared images leave the real names out by default. NOTEBOOKS • Decorate every notebook your way, placing and turning stickers wherever you like. A photo from your library can become a sticker and join My stickers. • The paper curls with your finger as you turn a page, and Continue returns to the page you left. TASKS AND GOALS • Pick a past day on the week strip or the calendar to log what you finished that day but forgot to tick. • Turn on System sync in Me › Reminders: tasks and goals appear in the Reminders app, ticking works both ways, and important dates go into Calendar with their alarms. DATA AND PRIVACY • Data & Privacy has been rebuilt: see where your entries live and how far sync has got, and check what a backup holds before you restore it. • Edits made on two devices at once no longer overwrite each other. WRITING AND READING • Editing screens open up: change the title in large type, and tap the date, person or mood to edit just that part. • Photos in an entry keep their own proportions. The tab bar, widgets and Live Activities now share one set of line icons. • The cat breathes and blinks, and answers a tap. Also fixed: freezes when opening a notebook or the goals page on iOS 17, place search results that could not be tapped with a third-party keyboard, the writing toolbar sometimes losing the keyboard, and a few screens that could open twice.

Small improvements to writing and organizing. • Journal lists now show notebooks and tags, with an Uncategorized search filter. • Tidier editing, people selection, task and sharing screens, plus shorter update notes. • Fixed a freeze when opening or reading notebooks on iOS 17. • Improved period records and PDF date selection, and fixed crashes when adding or editing past period dates.

This update adds app icons and clearer controls for creating a task. • Choose from 21 new icons in Me → Appearance → App icon. Preview a design, then tap Use this icon to keep it on your Home Screen. • The task entry panel now has Cancel and Add buttons. Done on the keyboard still saves your task.

A fresh look, and more care for the things you do every day. • Redesigned screens and refreshed colors across all 24 themes. • A writing tray above the keyboard, with photos, dictation, mood and place close at hand. Custom moods now have 21 colors. • Adjustable text sizes, together or separately for headings, body and supporting text. • Long notebook entries flow onto the next page. New simple pages and smoother page turns. • Task lists, subtasks, an inbox and quick date entry. Goals gain day-part groups, milestones and days off. • Notes and contact history for people, preparation lists for important dates, and a map for browsing entries by place. • A new plain share card, plus five PDF book styles with a preview of the actual document. We also fixed writing sheets that would not reopen, the keyboard covering the end of long entries, freezes or crashes around the first save and single-entry journals, avatar issues, dictation that failed to insert text, and overlapping tab labels at larger system text sizes. This time, you seal the day yourself. MAILBOX Tap "Seal the day" on Today and Trace copies the day onto letter paper, presses the wax and files it into this month's mailbox. Sixteen small animals take turns at the stamp. Today's letter can be updated with what's there now, signed with your own name, saved whole to Photos, and it syncs through iCloud. Sealing is a Pro feature, free for your first month; sealed letters always stay readable. NOTEBOOKS Pages really turn now: one page per screen, and the paper curls under your fingertip. Pick from 12 covers or make one from your own photo; a bookmark remembers where you left off. Each page lays the day out as a collage, photos included. Bind a notebook into a covered PDF, or record its real page turns as a video. COMMENTS Attach photos, videos and Live Photos to a comment. Subject cutout works while picking, and the camera opens full screen. CYCLE PANEL Rebuilt. Backfill a complete start-to-end range; the panel gains a monthly calendar and history, and every past period shows a proportional bar you can compare at a glance. REPEATING TO-DOS "Weekly" and "monthly" now read "Every Wednesday" and "Every month on the 1st". The next round no longer sits in your list ahead of time. It shows up on its own day, while the month calendar shows it whenever you look. Ticking one off tells you when the next one lands. ALSO A new welcome that arrives as a letter. Long entries get a long share card, with nothing cut off. Widgets no longer get stuck on the placeholder, and the to-do count stays current. Update notices now arrive as Trace's own card.

Trace 1.3.7 brings photo cutouts, and goals you can measure. • Photo cutouts: tap Cut Out on a photo while you are picking it and the subject lifts off its background, then goes straight into your entry as a transparent photo — no saving to Photos and picking again. Full-size photos inside an entry can be cut out and saved or shared, and a person's avatar can drop its background in one tap. It all happens on your iPhone, and the original photo is never changed. • Goals, from checking off to counting: a goal like six glasses of water now records how much you actually did, and progress recalculates when you change the target. Rhythms add fixed weekdays and monthly counts, rest days are never misses, and you can pick each goal's icon. • Fixed long freezes that could hit the to-do list and goal details, and trimmed the redraw cost of composing, Today, and Look Back. • Fixed the top of the navigation bar turning white while scrolling.
