Cope with anxiety before, during, and after a flight. Each tool maps to a study on what actually works. Works offline, in airplane mode. Airene (named after Irini, the Greek goddess of calm) is built for the part of the flight where facts stop helping — the bump at 30,000 feet, the engines going quiet after takeoff, the twenty minutes before boarding. It gives you something to do, not something to read. KNOW WHAT'S COMING Add your flight and Airene builds a turbulence forecast from NOAA weather data, broken down by phase: takeoff, climb, cruise, descent, landing. Download it before you leave. In the air, it tells you when a bumpy stretch is coming — and when it ends. TOOLS THAT WORK IN SEAT 23F • One tap on the panic button starts cyclic sighing — the breathing pattern that outperformed the alternatives in a Stanford trial (Balban et al., 2023, Cell Reports Medicine). • Paced breathing, set to 4-7-8, box, or slow resonance. • 5-4-3-2-1 grounding, quietly, without moving. • A focus game that occupies the exact part of your mind that runs disaster footage. Mental rotation, adapting to how bad it is right now. EVERY SOUND HAS A REASON A library of the noises and sensations that frighten people, each with a short audio explanation. The clunk after takeoff. The engines going quiet on climb. The grinding before landing. The hiss above your seat. Named, so it stops being a question. AIRENE KNOWS WHERE YOU ARE IN THE FLIGHT Using your phone's motion and pressure sensors — no internet required — Airene follows the phase you're in and surfaces what fits it. It can tell you that the drop you're about to feel on climb-out is a routine power reduction, before you feel it. AFTER YOU LAND Your anxiety is logged across the flight and drawn as a curve against the real phases. Most people see the same shape: it rose, it peaked, and it came down on its own — usually earlier than they remember. Then compare what you predicted with what actually happened. WORKS IN AIRPLANE MODE All of the above works with no signal. Nothing you need in the air lives on a server. WHAT AIRENE WON'T DO No accident databases. No crash statistics served to you mid-flight. No "safety scores" for your aircraft. Checking those things feels like relief and leaves the fear stronger — so we don't build them. — Airene offers tools to help you cope with flight anxiety. It is not therapy and not a substitute for professional care. If fear of flying is seriously affecting your life, consider a specialist programme — VALK, SOAR, or BA Flying with Confidence — or speak to your doctor. Airene is free during early release.
