Tala is a privacy-first translator for macOS, built for quick short-text translation from the menu bar.
Open Tala, type or paste text, choose your target language, select a translation source, and keep moving. It is designed for people who read and write across languages all day and want a focused Mac utility instead of a browser tab, a large AI workspace, or a subscription-only translation service.
Use the translation mode that fits the moment:

Tala does not try to be a full writing suite. It focuses on the everyday translation loop: enter text, translate, compare providers when needed, copy the result, and return to your work.

Privacy is part of the product design. Tala does not operate a translation server. Local Hunyuan translation runs on your Mac after you install the local model. Apple Translate requests are handled by macOS and Apple. BYOK requests are sent directly from your Mac to the provider you configure. Tala does not automatically read or monitor the clipboard.
Tala is best for short snippets from email, Slack, documents, browsers, research notes, and developer tools. It is not a browser extension, OCR suite, document translation platform, or general-purpose AI assistant.
Tala is an independent app by Yixiao Zhang. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or officially connected to Tencent, Tencent Cloud, or the Hunyuan team. Hunyuan is referenced only as a supported local model/source.
