Handpad Desktop is the macOS companion app for Handpad — an accessibility tool that lets users control their Mac through their iPhone. By pairing with the user's iPhone over Bluetooth and WiFi, Handpad turns the touch-friendly iPhone display into a wireless trackpad, keyboard, and customizable shortcut pad — extending Mac input options for people who find a traditional trackpad or keyboard difficult to use. — WHO IT'S FOR — • Users with limited mobility who cannot easily reach their Mac • Users with reduced fine motor control who find iPhone touch easier than a Mac trackpad • Older users more comfortable with familiar iPhone gestures than Mac shortcuts • Users in seated, bed-bound, or post-injury situations who need remote Mac access • People who want a larger touch surface than a built-in trackpad — HOW IT WORKS — Handpad Desktop lives quietly in your menu bar. When the paired iPhone (running the free Handpad iOS app) is nearby, it connects over Bluetooth Low Energy. Input from the iPhone — trackpad gestures, key presses, and text — is forwarded to the Mac in real time. On the same WiFi network, the link auto-upgrades to a low-latency local TCP connection for smoother input. Handpad uses macOS Accessibility services to synthesize input events on behalf of the user, requiring the user's explicit permission in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility.
