A new Home screen and a smoother start. - New Home screen: four big tiles for the things you reach for most. Make it yours with Customize (any four screens), or tap Reset to go back to the default. - Boat details are now optional. Start using HelmKeeper right away and add your boat when you're ready. Your boat is always in Settings > My boat. - Float plans can use your boat details, and a simple prompt helps you finish setting up your boat. - Edits to your boat now save on your device first and sync when you're back online. - A quick tour introduces the app, and the right-of-way example now matches the situation it describes. - Better support for large text sizes.

If you're new to HelmKeeper, here's what's inside. - Float plans you can build in minutes and text to someone ashore in one tap, with an emergency contact pulled straight from your address book. - Emergency procedures written out before you need them, offline, with the VHF Channel 16 distress call at the top. - Tides, currents, wind, waves and weather from official NOAA and National Weather Service stations, with an honest label on how far away the nearest reading actually is. - A Right of Way Emulator: build a situation, see who gives way and which horn signal to sound, or test yourself against the Navigation Rules. Every answer cites its rule. Works with no signal. - Pre-departure and maintenance checklists, and a "what to bring" list you can text to your crew. - Your vessel details, insurance and saved spots in one place, private to you. Also in this release: the tide card now lists the day's high and low times and marks each turn on the chart, and tide heights are labeled as heights rather than depths — a tide height is the number you add to the depth printed on your chart, not the water under your boat.

Account fixes. Confirmation links in sign-up emails now open HelmKeeper properly. If you tried to create an account and the link failed, your account was almost certainly created — sign in with the email and password you chose. Password reset now works end to end: the link in the reset email opens the app and takes you to a screen where you can set a new password.

Right-of-Way Emulator — the advice now tells you how much. Instead of a single "turn to starboard", the emulator works out the softest move that actually opens water from where you put the other vessel: ease 15°, hard 35°, or a turn plus coming off the throttle. Where the rules alone can no longer open enough water, it says so plainly, cites Rule 2(b), and shows how much earlier you would have needed to see them. Also: corrections to how overtaking and head-on situations are identified.

Right of Way Emulator — new, in Help. Build a situation: put a vessel anywhere around you, choose what it is and which way it's pointing, and see who gives way, what to do, and which horn signal to sound. Or test yourself on ten situations drawn from a bank of thirty — half of them the ones that catch experienced boaters out. Every answer cites its rule and explains why the other three options are wrong. Tap any rule number for a plain-language summary, including where the Inland and International rules differ. Works with no signal. Also new - Horn signals reference: what one, two, three and five blasts mean, and why the same horn means something different inland than it does offshore. - Help is now a set of cards you drill into, with search on the front page.

• Float plans: fixed a timezone bug that shifted departure/return times, plus more reliable saving (no more duplicates or hangs). • Emergency VHF: your current GPS position now auto-fills into the Mayday and Pan-Pan scripts, and there's a new quick-reference for describing your distress, urgency, and the help you need. • Conditions: preview a station's live conditions before you save it; faster pinning, setting a primary, and swipe-to-delete for your saved locations. • Checklists: return-to-dock checklists now label the time correctly. • Updated in-app purchase billing and general stability improvements.
