Finally a countdown app that’s actually fun
Aug 12
AimlesslyCool
I’ve tried a few countdown apps and most of them are either really basic or want a subscription for everything. Lanely has a ton of ways to customize the look, and the widgets actually look good on my Home Screen. My favorite part is the little messages that change as the countdown gets closer. It gives the app some personality instead of just showing a number. I’m using it for an upcoming trip now, but I can see myself using it for birthdays and holidays too.

I downloaded this looking for a simple countdown app and ended up keeping it. There are a lot of customization options, the widgets look great, and the app has a little personality that makes it fun to use. It works well for vacations, birthdays, concerts, and other events. I also like that all of the features are available without paying for a subscription. It’s definitely worth a look.

• New widget size (requires iOS 27) Up Next now supports the new full screen portrait widget. • Smart Add Describe what you're waiting for in plain language ("Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's" or "my birthday is March 18 every year") and Lanely creates the countdowns for you. It understands holidays, relative dates like "two weeks from Friday" and repeating events, and asks a quick question instead of guessing when something is unclear. Each new countdown arrives with its own look so a batch never comes out looking identical. Runs on device. • Siri Integration (requires iOS 27) On iOS 27, ask Siri any of these: "Create a countdown in Countdown" "Create countdown in Countdown" "Make a countdown in Countdown" "Make countdown in Countdown" Siri also answers to "Lanely Countdown" in place of "Countdown." It then asks what you're counting down to and opens Smart Add with your answer ready to review. • Lanely on Apple TV A brand new Apple TV app. Browse your current and past countdowns on the big screen, see live shared countdowns, and start Play All to cycle every countdown full screen. Quips now appear on every layout, with a TV setting to turn them off. Settings lives in the tab bar with iCloud sync status and a manual refresh.
