WHY WATER AND CARBON MATTER We built the Toyboat platform around a question many people are asking about AI: how bad is this for the environment? We've researched the effects of data centers extensively, and the impacts go far beyond the data center itself. It is not just the water a data center uses for on-site cooling. The bigger issue is the power grid behind it. Upstream power generation is rarely disclosed by AI companies and can consume far more fresh water than the facility itself. And that same energy grid decides how much carbon your query emits. On top of that, water usage is a local issue. A data center drawing from a strained local aquifer matters, regardless of global averages.
