Can your phone pick the sweetest watermelon?
Buttekha listens to your watermelon. Snap a photo, knock it three times, and get a verdict — ripe or not ripe, with a confidence score.
HOW IT WORKS
Tap your phone's camera to photograph the melon, then hold your phone just above the fruit and knock it with your knuckle. Buttekha listens to the thump and checks the photo to give you a verdict in seconds.
A ripe watermelon sounds different from an unripe one — deeper, more hollow. Your phone can hear the difference. Buttekha combines the sound of the knock with what the field spot (the pale patch on the bottom) looks like to make its call.
QUICK & EASY
- Snap a photo
- Knock three times
- Get your verdict
Works instantly, right in the store. No internet needed.
Available in English and Arabic.
Buttekha is a fun tool to help you pick — not a lab instrument. Results are for entertainment and may not always be right. But it's weirdly satisfying to try.
HOW IT WORKS
- Take a clear photo of the whole watermelon
- Hold your phone against the fruit and tap it firmly
- Buttekha analyzes the color, the field spot (the yellow patch where the fruit rested), and the acoustic resonance of the tap
- You get a Ripe or Not Ripe verdict with a confidence percentage
THE SCIENCE
A ripe watermelon has a deeper, more hollow-sounding tap than an unripe one — that's why grocers thump them. Buttekha listens to the same acoustic cues and combines them with visual signals from the photo to make a calibrated prediction. Both signals contribute to the verdict; when they disagree, confidence is shown lower.
