Lexolotl is a spaced-repetition flashcard app that adapts to how well you actually know each term. You're in control when you run a drill – choose whether to draw cards at random, to reinforce known terms, or to work on the hard stuff.
Build decks from scratch, from starter decks, or imports.
Jump in immediately with a library of ready-to-study starter decks spanning languages, scripts, science, and more, including script and syllabary decks for Arabic, Cyrillic, Devanagari, Greek, Hangul, and Japanese. Pick a starter deck as your foundation, then add your own vocabulary as you encounter new words in the wild. Or import question/answers from a plain-text file, or full decks with categories and tags in Lexolotl Basic, or Lexolotl JSON. Organize everything with categories and color-coded tags; search and filter your terms by text, category, tag, or score to find exactly what needs work.
Take your drills anywhere — in your backpack, in your pocket, or on your wrist.
Studying on your iPad at the library, sneaking in a few cards on your iPhone between classes, glancing through a drill on your Apple Watch during a commute — Lexolotl fits around your day, not the other way around. iCloud sync keeps your decks and progress in step across all your devices automatically, so wherever you left off is where you pick back up.
Having trouble translating *into* your study language? Flip the drill direction — every card can run question→answer or answer→question, and Lexolotl tracks your mastery in each direction separately. Want to focus on the words giving you the most trouble? Enable score weighting and tune six draggable bars to lean the session as hard as you like on your weakest terms. Save any configuration as a named Favorite, set one as your deck's default, and your preferred setup is always one tap away. Drill presets even work on Apple Watch.
Rate each card on a five-point scale (from Unknown to Easy). After a session, a histogram shows exactly how it went, and the app can automatically tag any terms you missed for focused follow-up.
For language learners
Set a learner language and a study language on any deck, and two on-device intelligence features unlock. A speaker button can read the study-language side of any card aloud. On supported devices with Apple Intelligence enabled, a Usage Examples button generates three contextual example sentences with translations, entirely on your device. (Requires Apple Intelligence and a supported language pair.)
Handoff lets you start a drill on your iPhone and continue on your iPad or Mac, right where you left off. An Apple Watch companion lets you run drills and rate terms from your wrist, with results syncing back automatically.
Privacy by design
All intelligence features run on-device. Your drill scores and study history live in your iCloud account or on your device, never on our servers. And your progress is never included in exports, so sharing a deck never shares how well you know it.
Knowledge is built one term at a time!
Lexolotl is made to grow with you. Start with a starter deck, layer in your own vocabulary as your knowledge deepens, and let your drill history guide you toward genuine mastery over time. Written from the ground up in SwiftUI, Lexolotl is a native citizen of the Apple ecosystem: it evolves alongside new Apple technologies, supports the full range of Apple accessibility features including Dynamic Type, Reduce Motion, and VoiceOver, and is committed to meeting every learner where they are, whatever device they reach for, and whatever style of learning works best for them.
