The Changing Faces Project presents ED — Early Dementia Warning App Research & Development.
Dementia affects over 57 million people worldwide, and up to 75% remain undiagnosed. ED is a pioneering research initiative exploring whether subtle facial changes — often invisible to the human eye — could serve as early warning signs of dementia, years before traditional symptoms appear.
How it works
Medical research suggests that people who go on to develop dementia may exhibit very slight facial changes up to 5–10 years before diagnosis. ED uses AI and facial recognition technology to investigate whether these patterns can be identified and tracked over time.
By contributing a single weekly facial photograph, you become part of a growing global dataset that researchers will analyse to explore this possibility. The more people who participate, the stronger the data — and the greater the chance of a breakthrough.
Why it matters
Earlier detection could mean earlier intervention. That could mean more time — more awareness, more independence, more precious moments — for people living with dementia and the families who love them.
How to get involved
Getting started takes just three things:

• Support the research with a £1.99/month contribution
That's it. No medical appointments. No complex tests. Just a few minutes of your time each week that could one day help change millions of lives.
Where we are today
Stage 1 of ED is live — you can download the app, create your profile, and begin building your facial portfolio today. Stage 2 (machine learning analysis) is currently in development. Your participation now is what makes Stage 3 possible.
