Lensgrade

Photo sharpness scorer

$0.99 · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.

Score sharpness, subject focus, exposure, and shake risk on device. New sample scoring and Field Lab cards help you improve the next shot. Lensgrade is an on-device photo keeper-check that helps you sort soft shots from sharp ones. Choose a photo and Lensgrade scores it locally. It measures sharpness, then goes further: it finds the subject (a face, or a center region when there is no face) and scores focus there so a sharp portrait on a plain background stops reading soft. It builds a luminance histogram to flag clipped highlights and shadows, and it reads the photo's EXIF focal length and shutter speed to apply the reciprocal rule and estimate camera-shake risk. These signals combine into one clear keeper-or-cull verdict, with a breakdown showing exactly what produced the score. A Shot Diagnosis card explains why a frame is soft — camera shake, focus miss, or extreme exposure — and gives a one-sentence fix. When EXIF is present it shows the actual shutter used versus the safe threshold with a stop-count delta, so you know exactly how far off the reciprocal rule you were. Focal length, 35mm equivalent, aperture, and ISO appear on every scored photo that carries metadata. Batch a roll and Lensgrade ranks it sharpest-first, groups frames into bursts by capture time, and crowns the best frame in each. Your score history is searchable and sortable by sharpness, exposure, date, star, or keeper, and you can re-open saved batches as ranked groups or export any batch as a CSV. A Library Stats panel at the top of History shows your keep rate, average composite score, and a star-distribution bar so you can track how your shooting improves over time. A bundled Learn tab adds a photo-quality glossary, how-to guides, a crop-factor table, typical score ranges by scene, and a new Field Lab with source-backed technique cards for shutter speed, focus maps, EXIF audits, histograms, depth of field, low-light triage, and burst culling. The Score and Batch tabs also include bundled sample photos, so you can try the real on-device analyzer without granting Photos access first. Lensgrade analyzes the detail in delivered photos. It does not measure a lens's or camera's optical quality, and it never changes your library. Photos are selected by you and processed on device. No account, no ads, no analytics, no tracking, no in-app purchases.

Lensgrade 2.1 adds a no-permission sample workflow, a source-backed Field Lab, and a next-shot plan on every result. - Try sample photo: the Score tab can analyze a bundled image with the same production pipeline, so new users and reviewers can see a full result before opening Photos. - Rank sample roll: the Batch tab can score a bundled five-photo roll and show the ranked keeper workflow immediately. - Field Lab: Learn now includes 16 offline technique cards with source links covering Laplacian sharpness, focus maps, subject ROI scoring, shutter safety, histograms, depth of field, low light, EXIF audits, and CSV review. - Next-shot plan: Result now turns diagnosis into practical actions such as faster shutter, highlight protection, subject focus, or repeatable test steps. Existing scores are preserved. Core scoring remains on device with no account, no tracking, and no in-app purchases.
