ChirpHound 12.0 is simpler to use and easier to trust — built from what people told us. • Just find it: the Hunt tab now opens on one big Start listening button and one plain status card — "Listening · 0:47", "Nothing yet — that's normal", "Heard 3 chirps", "About every 47 s", "Next chirp in about 18 s" — so the screen never looks frozen while it waits. • Catches the off-pitch chirp on the first listen: Just find it listens across 2.4–4.5 kHz instead of one narrow smoke-alarm band, so a beep every 47–48 seconds from an alarm whose pitch is off the usual 3.2 kHz is no longer filtered out. Checked on the app's synthetic room-and-noise test bench with the same audio run through the old and new settings; no detector code changed. • Louder or quieter: after each chirp you see whether it was louder or quieter at your phone than at your last spot. • Which alarm is it? Add your alarm locations, stand under each one for a chirp, and ChirpHound ranks them by how loud each was at your phone — then asks you to check the leader once more before it calls it. • Keeps listening with the screen locked (your choice): a Live Activity on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island counts down to the next chirp, with an optional notice on each chirp. • Overnight chirp catcher: for chirps that start at 3 a.m. Leave the phone on its charger and read a morning report — how many chirps, when they started, how often and the busiest hour. Only times and levels are kept, never audio. • My alarms: every alarm with its room, brand, model, power type and label dates, its replace-by date, a battery-check date and optional daytime reminders (never at night). • Is it even a smoke alarm? ChirpHound 8.0 introduces HoundMap: a one-phone spatial search tool for the chirp that keeps reflecting through the room. - Mark separated listening checkpoints on a simple map. - Capture only chirps that match the active Signal Lock target. - Combine relative level, frequency, tonality, repetition, identity quality, stability, and spatial coverage. - Use a reflection-tolerant probability grid so one loud outlier cannot decide the result. - See the most-supported search zone, confidence, an 80% uncertainty area, and edge evidence. - Follow a next-best checkpoint chosen to reduce uncertainty. - Save HoundMap evidence with the hunt, feed it into Sweep Plan, review it in History, and include it in the PDF field report. - Use a cleaner Hunt workspace with one focused 8.0 introduction instead of stacked legacy notices. HoundMap is a search aid, not an exact coordinate, calibrated sound-level reading, smoke or carbon-monoxide alarm, or emergency detector. Audio remains live and on device. Housekeeping release. Nothing changes in how ChirpHound works — this update refreshes the App Store listing so the app is easier to find when you're searching for a chirping smoke alarm, a CO detector, or a beeping UPS. The 4.2 improvements are all still here: the wide-scan escape hatch when a beep falls outside the current listening band, next-chirp prediction, and the hearing-assist output (flash, torch, speech, and echo tone).

The hot-and-cold game finally works between chirps. • Truer measurements — we now measure the whole chirp, not a single instant, so every dB reading and frequency estimate is more accurate. • Hearing Assist — can't hear high-pitched beeps? Your phone can. Version 3.1.1 fixes a dead end when a hunt finds nothing. • A hunt only listens to the narrow band of the selected preset. When no chirps are detected, ChirpHound now names the exact band it is listening to instead of only telling you to keep waiting. • Added a one-tap "Scan 400 Hz – 6 kHz instead" action to the live chirp log, so a beep outside the current preset's band can be found with Auto Discover without guessing the right preset first.

This update sharpens the interface: the iPad layout now uses a centered, comfortable reading width instead of stretching edge to edge, so every screen reads as a clean column. iPhone is unchanged; still fully on-device.

Plus the same live narrow-band detection, warmth gauge, haptic "getting warmer" ramp, and spectrogram. No account, no network — every sound is analyzed on your device.

Version 1.1 (build 3) • Beep Guide — a new offline reference tab listing 20 chirp signatures across smoke alarms, CO detectors, appliances, UPS units, smart locks, and leak sensors. Every entry includes the burst count, interval, what the pattern means, and exactly what to do. Sourced from UL 217, UL 2034, NFPA 72, and manufacturer support pages. • Burst Analyzer — ChirpHound now counts the number of rapid beeps per group (burst size). 1 chirp/burst = low battery. 2 chirps/burst = end-of-life (replace the unit). 3 chirps/burst = fault/malfunction. 4 chirps/burst = CO emergency. The burst count is shown in the chirp log and used by the Pattern Decoder. • Smarter Pattern Decoder — the Hunt Detail screen now combines burst-count analysis with interval analysis for a more precise diagnosis.
