iPhone
Your iPhone's depth camera as a living visual instrument — 20 real-time depth modes, an audio-reactive Pulsar synth, and NDI streaming to your desktop.
Turn your iPhone's depth camera into a living visual instrument.
ZPTH reads the depth in front of you — with the front TrueDepth camera or, on Pro models, the rear LiDAR scanner — and paints it in real time. Point it at a face, a room, or your hand and watch the depth become light, contour lines, plasma, chrome, a field of living cells, or pixel-art dither. Capture a photo or record a video, straight to your Photos library.
No network, no account, no setup. Everything runs on the device.
TWENTY DEPTH MODES
• Environment — a clean depth view of the space around you, near to far.
• Face — sculpted facial relief from the depth camera.
• Raw — a glitchy, topographic depth look with posterised bands and scanlines.
• Plasma — depth-driven nebula filaments that flow and warp.
• Organic — a reaction-diffusion world that grows from the closest point.
• Data — a point cloud of numbers: every depth point printed as its distance.
• Contour — depth as a colour spectrum drawn with topographic isolines.
• Hillshade — relief-lit terrain shading from the depth surface.
• Chrome — liquid chrome, gold, wax and clay from the depth normals.
• Oil Slick — thin-film iridescence: petrol, nacre and laser fringes.
• Pulsar — rhythmic depth-driven line waves.
• Sonar — a sweeping sonar scan of the scene.
• Pin Screen — a pin-art lattice that pushes toward you with depth.
• Voxel — the scene rebuilt as 3D blocks.
• Facets — depth shattered into flat-shaded crystal facets.
• Light Trails — long-exposure motion trails.
• Miniature — a tilt-shift, toy-world look.
• Iron Filings — magnetic-field fibres flowing over the depth.
• Dither — depth turned into ordered, blue-noise and halftone pixel art.
• Juicy — velour and rhinestone bling on the depth field.
CREATOR MODE (Pro) Make your own depth mode. Begin with an empty depth field and stack effect layers grouped by function — texture, lighting, lines, edge, colour and bloom. Each layer has its own controls, multiplier, opacity and blend mode, so you can mix any effects together. Shape how they fall through near/far depth, import a photo as a depth-projected tileset, then save your creation as a named custom mode and reuse it whenever you like.
NDI STREAMING (Pro) Turn on NDI in Settings to broadcast your live preview to NDI receivers — OBS, TouchDesigner, vMix and more — on your local network, turning your iPhone into a depth-camera source for your desktop. Off by default; a Wired mode over USB-C lowers latency.
CAPTURE
• Tap the shutter for a photo.
• Hold and swipe up to record video.
• Everything saves to your Photos library.
• Double-tap the camera to switch between 3:4 and full-screen 9:16.
• Browse and jump between modes with the on-camera mode switcher.
PRO ZPTH Pro is a one-time $2 purchase — no subscription. It unlocks every visual mode's settings, the colour maps, all presets, and Creator Mode. The app is free to explore: every mode is preview-able with its first preset, and the universal LiDAR presets are free to use.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN No accounts, no servers, no analytics, no tracking. Your camera frames are processed on the device and never leave it unless you choose to save a photo or video to your own library.
REQUIREMENTS An iPhone with a front TrueDepth camera or a rear LiDAR scanner (iPhone X and later with Face ID; rear LiDAR on Pro models). iPhone only.
The Pulsar mode is rebuilt as a Rutt-Etra-style line synth driven by depth, colour and — if you turn it on — live sound from the microphone, so the lines pulse in time with music or your voice. Audio is optional and off by default; when on, it's analysed live on your device only and is never recorded, saved, or sent anywhere.
Broadcast your live preview to NDI receivers — OBS, TouchDesigner, vMix and more — on your local network, so your iPhone becomes a depth-camera source for your desktop setup. Off by default; a Wired mode over USB-C gives lower-latency streaming.
The rear LiDAR camera now captures and records at up to 60 fps (on supported LiDAR cameras) for smoother motion; the front TrueDepth camera runs at 30 fps. It switches automatically with the camera — nothing to set.
A round of performance and memory cleanup for smoother, lighter long sessions.
Everything else still runs entirely on your device. The microphone (Pulsar) and local-network (NDI) features are opt-in; no account, no internet, no tracking.
